Back To Earth Laugh Track! News Posted by Ian Symes on 1st April 2009, 06:49 This is, erm, interesting. Dave have published a new trailer, which is damn near identical to the previous one, but for one pretty major detail – it has a bloody laugh track on it. The write-up mentions that the production team weren’t happy with the way things were working without the laugh track. It took them a bit bloody long to notice, no? Regardless, apparently the “finest collection of smeggies” were shown the episodes a couple of Saturdays ago, and a laugh track was recorded. Erm, was anyone from here invited? I assume some pretty hefty non-disclosure forms were involved, otherwise we’d have heard about it by now. Although, can I ask you one thing? Why the fuck did you have to whoop so much when Carbug came on screen? To be honest… I can’t see this working. I love plenty of sitcoms with audiences, and I love plenty without. But it’s always a massive problem when laugh tracks are used when it doesn’t suit the style of the show (and indeed vice versa). All along, we’ve heard nothing but how dark and cinematic and unlike any previous sitcom these specials are. But to be frank, even the lighter moments used in the trailer sound shit with laughter over the top. It just doesn’t sound natural, and the rhythm of the scene just doesn’t allow for it. They say that the editing is still ongoing, but… well, it’s going to need an incredible amount of work to make this sound good. UPDATE: Yeah, it was an April Fools joke, obviously. We’d have thought you lot might have played along a bit rather than smugly blowing the gag straight away, though. Mind you, someone posted it on reddwarfforum.com as real news, so it was all worthwhile. The direct Youtube link to the amusing video is here, if you’re interested.
If this isn’t a joke then if they want to be truthful they should have Cameras showing the Aud Cringing in Pain.
ah i didnt think this might be a april fools but thinking about it now, the laughter track is done pretty bad
At first i thought it was Dave’s joke, but the joke is the fact the joke is actually not Dave’s? What was the intended joke?
I’ve got to admit, I find it pretty jawdropping that so many are considering that this could be real after seeing the clip.
This is terrible, awful, a tragedy. I wonder if an online petition will make them change their minds?
Some of you are considering this to be real? If it is real it would ruin the episode since the laugh added was such poor quality and from the sounds of it canned.
I’ve figured It out! SHould I give the game away? Skip If you like to live a lie: Double click the youtube vid to go to the page its posted on youtube. Its posted by Ian Symes. Clever bitch! :D
I think the cleverest thing about this is the trouble somebody’s gone to to make it look like it’s got anything to do with Dave at all. When it comes to the trailer with the laughter track, mind, it’s awful. But no, wasn’t taken in for a second. Okay, maybe I thought it WAS posted a Dave, but still an April Fool. Well done Ian.
Yeah, the mock-up Dave article was supposed to be the thing that fooled people, while the video was designed to be so OTT that it would make it obvious that it’s a joke. People thinking that it was Dave’s joke rather than ours is the most gratifying reaction.
People thinking that it was Dave?s joke rather than ours is the most gratifying reaction. Yeah – that’s what got me. I did wonder why the URI was odd though – it didn’t twig that that might be the April Fools bit – it’s obvious the audience bit is! I only blew it because I thought it was Dave’s fool, not yours…
>I only blew it because I thought it was Dave?s fool, not yours? That’ll be why you wrote “It’s hosted on your server”, then.
Ah well, it’s past Noon now, no new Fools to come. The (REAL) Dave site *has* got the full ‘Cat always lands on his feet’ vid up now though, and very good it is too, with a little peek at a Kryten/Psi-scan moment being filmed. *Happy*
Well, it was 7:49am – the clocks went forward last weekend. You can change your time settings by editing your profile.
I’m glad no one seemed to notice the lack of Dave icon on the audience picture. I was too intoxicated to even bother with that particular detail. Luckily, it seems Dave didn’t do a fool of their own, otherwise things would’ve got a *little* bit confusing.
Mind you, someone posted it on reddwarfforum.com as real news, so it was all worthwhile. … now edited and replaced with the Actual News that we’ve just posted. Come on, RDF people – if you hate us so much, why are you still reading? And why do you not credit us when you nick news from us?
How did you get the site to look exactly like the Dave site? That was Cappsy’s fine work – it involved the complicated process of, erm, nicking their code and editing it a bit.

Come on, RDF people – if you hate us so much, why are you still reading? And why do you not credit us when you nick news from us? Give them a break Seb, they’re really busy at the moment what with all the fake reviews they’re having to write for iTunes. Giving G&T credit probably just slipped their minds!
The clip reminds me of VIII. It made me laugh though as I obviously knew that it would be a joke from word go, but I wasn’t prepared for the amount of laughter over the escalator bit! Brilliant job. I hope some of the production team look at this and realise the right decision was made.
You clever bloody goits, my God imagine if it were true!! “I must’ve been mad…” This is no joke…Come to our Red Dwarf pub night in the Aigburth Arms next Saturday 11th. Welcome Lister and the boys Back to Earth over a pint with fellow Dwarf fans :) This is a unique event and we’d love to see as many of you guys there as possible. I came here to check if there had been an April Fool, but was impressed with the dave site copy, well done. Back to reality now.
Oh, they’ve now added a “found on G&T” or whatever to the post. WE KNOW YOU’RE WATCHING, YOU BASTARDS. COME OUT AND SAY HELLO.
I only blew it because I thought it was Dave?s fool, not yours? That?ll be why you wrote ?It?s hosted on your server?, then. Yes, in my second post. I thought it would be a poor show if I got fooled, and then deleted it. No doubt had I done that instead, you’d have piped up about that too.
