Howdy doodly do, folks! As we’ve now had 2 weeks of the Difficult Daily, I thought it might be prudent to move discussions of the day’s puzzle and our scores to a dedicated thread, so we’re not just bloating the comments of the “Reintroducing Smegle” post all the time. Let that be for more general feedback (or bug reports).

And of course, if you get any share-worthy frames in Casual Continuous, feel free to post those here too!

Somewhat tricky, but once I’d got the right series I felt confident I could narrow it down enough not to fail.

Also, what do you think: should this thread be spoiler-free, or not? I’m leaning towards not – because I generally prefer to do the Difficult Daily myself before hearing about others’ scores anyway, and it would be cool to speak openly without having to wait until the next day – but only if there’s consensus on it.

Got the series from the banana and the episode from Cat’s shirt. 

Got series 2 immediately from the blue rivets.

I genuinely did get it in three but the drop-down menu glitched and made me choose a Back To Earth episode by mistake.

Got the scene once I saw Rimmer properly, don’t recognise the background at all.

Ditto. 

1st guess – Dimension Jump, the early scenes where he meets Spanners/Padre in the corridor. 

2nd guess – Back to Reality. Kind of threw it away. I couldn’t figure what costume the bit of shoulder was wearing, knew it didn’t look like the boiler suits from BTR, and the background colour wasn’t right, but I was out of ideas. 

All became clear on Rimmer’s face

Couldn’t tell what I was looking at, guessed Thanks For The Memory, based on the lime green block maybe being Cats suit. 

After a few seconds puzzling after the reveal, I realised the costume and scene, and therefore episode.

Weirdly I first thought it might the first Hollister scene from Back In The Red. Then the second square reveal gave it away.

My immediate thought was the revealed square was a wood frame of a shed or bunker so went for Meltdown. I then thought maybe possibly the Timeslides pub by was hung up on that first square being wood so went for Gunmen. Should have stuck to my instincts. Funny how when fully revealed its clear that it’s a painted wall and wooden beams.

Went for Balance of Power first because I most associate those green clipboard things with the DVD menu where you get to an Easter egg by selecting 4,691 irradiated haggis.

Initially thought it was series 2. Thought Better than Life when they’re opening the post and they’re looking down at Gordon. 

Then just stumbled blindly around series 1 episodes.

Thought it was Cat’s felt-tipped yellow and black coat. Then the chef’s hat made it obvious, although I had to sit and work out which I / II episode it was for a minute first.

Got the right series straight away, and Rimmer’s chef hat should have been a giveaway, but my memory for vignettes totally failed me. I got it in 4 but it could have just as easily been 6.

Thought Quarantine at first because of the colours, the bunk has that shutter that’s not white on it. 

Then went for a bit of a random Bodyswap, thought maybe Lister at the end being severed his lettuce and carrot.

Getting III at that stage and knowing it wasn’t Backwards or Marooned meant it was just a matter of time. I still cut it fine though.

It didn’t look grainy enough for III. Went for Justice then Quarantine.

Same as Quinn with a Last Day along the way. The colour looked more Quarantine, but I knew I shouldn’t base it on that since they “fixed” all the character out of the grading.

EXACTLY the same. Thought the purple square might be Cat’s Justice outfit, then went for the Quarantine bunk. 

Once it was clearly Series III Kryten stood in front holding something, I figured it was the boxers or the snake.
