Over on Radio 2, Craig Charles is sitting in for Steve Wright for a fortnight. He got talking about Strictly at one point this afternoon, and said he was once asked but said no on the grounds that he’s ‘the only black guy with no rhythm.’
He also said that someone ‘close to’ him ‘for 30 years’ is going to be appearing, but that he’s not supposed to say. Another accident avoided there.
So, thirty years. Not unfair to suggest that it may well be a Red Dwarf cast member? My immediate reaction was Danny John-Jules, then I abandoned that on account of the fact that he’s already q professional dancer, and not really a suitable Strictly contestant.
So, we saying Chris or Bobby? Norm? Throw us a curveball with Clare Grogan or Mark Williams? Who?

I would guess Chris or Danny, simply because they’re more recognisable to the BBC audience. But then I realise that this isn’t really the criteria for choosing the celebs for this show.

I’ve never actually watched it. but I’m pretty sure that they don’t take celebs who are proper professional dancers which would rule Danny out.

I could see Robert doing it tbh. They often have the ‘older gentleman who will have a few laughs and get kicked out after a few weeks’. Chris has never struck me as someone who’s comfortable being just himself in front of people.

If it’s someone from Red Dwarf I’d say Robert if Danny is ruled out for being a dancer. I’m sure there’s been scandals about contestants having had dance training and stuff before though, girl band members etc.

Danny is on Death in Paradise so that’s good synergy for the BBC but after that I’d say there’s more chance the average man in the street would recognise Robert than anyone else.

Maybe it’s a sneaky plan to make Bobby exercise so his Kryten costume fits better and Dave are in cohoots with the BBC

I’ll tune in every week for Norman Lovett.

You may all wish to tune into The One Show right about now.

    Red Cat as the hint.

    Joking obviously.

    From his new Strictly page:

The born-and-bred Londoner has been a mainstay on our televisions for decades, best known for his portrayal of the stylish and side-splitting Cat in Red Dwarf. In fact, he was one of the few cast members to appear in every single one of its 52 episodes.

Every one of Red Dwarf’s sole 52 episodes.

I heard one of those digital channels was thinking about bringing it back about ten years ago.

Surely he’ll win unless one of the other contestants is Anton Du Beke.

When’s it start? We’ll all be sat voting for him while we’re at DJ, won’t we? Maybe. Or not. Whatever.

So we know he can act, but can he dance? It won’t be long until we find out!

Who’s going to tell the Beeb about Dan being a professional dancer?

I wonder if Craig, Chris or Robert will appear in the audience or on a VT at any point. Maybe even on It Takes Two.

This is going to be … interesting. The Strictly fans get really arsey with anyone who has even a hint of prior dance training. Debbie McGee got raked over the coals for being a mediocre ballet dancer when she was a teenager.

Didn’t he do Starlight Express? The whole dancing on roller skates thing?

Danny was also a backing dancer in Little Shop of Horrors and The Great Muppet Caper. He’s definitely a ringer.

Lol some stunning reporting from The Metro here : https://metro.co.uk/2018/08/13/strictly-come-dancing-2018-line-danny-john-jules-confirmed-third-contestant-7834694/

“Danny starred as the Cat in the sci-fi cult series Red Dwarf; he has no dance experience but revealed that he had appeared in a Wham! music video in the 1980s.”

    Maybe it’s a different Danny John-Jules.

It’s Johnny Dan-Dules who played Cat in a parallel universe.

They’ll probably try to get away with saying he danced in his youth or something, or hasn’t danced for x years. To be fair he probably hasn’t.

Still, that’s flimsy and you’d have to say he’s got an advantage.

Want him to win though obviously.

    #235999

Though it’s great to see Danny getting some work to show his stuff, It is a tad unfair on the rest of the field as he has been a professional dancer in the past. I suspect the beeb have not done their homework on this one.
