Looks like Red Dwarf aren’t the only place to have a hidden 13th floor. The new series of Torchwood [Children of Earth] is going to be based around a place called “Floor 13”, and images of a lift’s buttons have been seen where the 13th number seems to be missing… ring any bells?

From a technical standpoint it’s going to be the largest set BBC Wales has ever built… if that interests anyone… maybe…

First they make Cassandra who looked just like the one in Dwarf and now they do this, we might aswell call it Doctor Dwarf, well actually no, that would be misleading.

Although it would make for quite the spin off, with quite the obvious target audience…

Yeah, floating head of actress suspended in a tank-like console, CGI eyes and lips pasted on to a giant stretch of skin – what’s the difference?

Then she looks like Zoe Wannamaker. Clearly a rip-off from My Family.

Thier both disemboided heads/Skin. Even Danny JJ saoid that th Cassandras were similar (back in the red part 1 commentary and Cassandra Commentary) He also mention that they have used the name GELF.

Yep, except that he’d /heard/ they had a Cassandra and he’d misheard “Gelth”. I think the commentaries were either at the time or just before those episodes aired.

It is the boy’s running gag that everyone copied Red Dwarf, up to, I think, Jane Austen time-travelling in order to steal Red Dwarf’s ideas from “Beyond a Joke”.

Yeah, uh, getting your info from a persistently-vandalised Wikipedia article isn’t really the best course of action in the “looking smart” stakes. Neither is assuming that Danny John Jules knows much about Doctor Who, come to that.

Appearances asside, were they both inspired by the Greek myth? I know Red Dwarf’s Cassandra certainly was, and the story bears that out with her powers of prophesy, etc. The Doctor Who version… well that’s a bit of a stretch. (Stretch, get it! Actually the pun didn’t occur to me until afterwards, but never mind.) I suppose the cyclical nature of the second episode she appears in is somewhat prophetic. Her past inspiring her future, etc.

Danny was just joking in the commentary, I still stand by that they look like each other though.

As this is allegedly a Torchwood thread, I wonder if it’s worth mentioning here – Radio 4, today, tomorrow, Friday, 2.15pm; BBC1, next week, Monday – Friday, 9pm.

    So, you know. There.

To be fair, and I’m not bashing, just putting how I saw it: your comment seemed to be in support of the earlier thread opinion that the Cassandra in Doctor Who was somehow a rip-off or copy of the one from Red Dwarf. That’s the conclusion I drew and the conclusion Andrew came to. (I assume.)

If you weren’t posting it to say that you thought Danny was right, then it wasn’t very clear that was the case.

Back to Torchwood: seriously excited at this epic prospect, although knowing my luck I’ll be watching it all on iPlayer a week after everyone in the office has seen it.

Trailer looks brilliant and the article in Doctor Who Magazine was absolutely tantalising.

Just to contribute and flog the dead horse- I thought RD’s Cassandra was played by Zoe Wannamaker when I first saw it aired- DW’s was. When DW’s Cassandra first appears, she’s in the same room as the Face of Beau (or whatever) who looks just like RD’s Cassandra…

Aaaand back onto Torchwood, what did people make of Day One? I thought it was pretty good actually!

A lot of new info, and a very good cliffhanger… a cliffhanger telling us they’re bored of the set and want to build a new one! Haha!

I went upstairs for a sleep so I wouldn’t fall asleep during the programme…. and missed it. (My bodyclock is in a strange state at the moment, I sleep during the day and stay awake all night.) I was hoping I’d catch the repeat on BBC3, but it was already 15 minutes in…

It’s not ‘on demand’ (yet anyway.) I’ll try and catch it on BBC iplayer before the morrow like.

Edit- Just saw it! Very good so far.

Better than Series 1 Torchwood, not as good as Series 2 though I will wait to judge it because it is a multiple part story and will probably work better after the other episodes.

Episode two: really good! I hope they keep this up.

So with Jack, they only found 2-3 bits right? I guess they fused together and the rest regenerated? Stretching the healing stuff, but I really don’t mind.

Jack doesn’t “heal”. He’s a fixed point in time so he kind of “reverts” to that fixed point. Although that doesn’t make a lot of sense since he also says he noticed that he IS getting older, only very, very slowly.

I think that Jack may now have some serious mental issues. Perhaps claustrophobia? Or even agoraphobia?
