It’s not funny the first time, but he remembers the joke long enough to repeat it when Lister is watching the death video. Is there some inside joke that I don’t quite understand? Or does CC think that saying that Madonna used to be a man is funny? February 23, 2009 at 1:36 pm #92396 peas_and_cornParticipant It’s about as annoying as Norman saying “that’s a tea bag on the ship, isn’t it?” February 23, 2009 at 5:52 pm #92403 JamesParticipant I would say it’s not that easy trying to remember funny bits about a show you finished years ago. Don’t forget they were recoreded at different times. Not always on the same day. I can’t remember what I did yesterday! February 23, 2009 at 7:35 pm #92414 siParticipant I can’tremember what I did on the morning of the 26th January… (sorry, couldn’t resist) February 23, 2009 at 7:45 pm #92418 AnonymousInactive I’m not a big fan of commentaries but I watched The End with commentary on to celebrate the anniversary and rather enjoyed it. February 23, 2009 at 7:48 pm #92420 PhilParticipant Series I and II have hilarious commentaries, from what I remember. They’re the only ones I’ve listened to more than once. III (and maybe IV) was pretty boring, with an awful lot of dead air. (Was stuff cut out for legal/other reasons?) The rest I can’t remember at all. Futurama and The League of Gentlemen are so far the only commentaries I’ve loved front to back. February 23, 2009 at 7:55 pm #92421 AnonymousInactive “The League of Gentlemen” What? They have commentaries? *runs to DVD cabinet* Nominates self for fucking village idiot of Royston Vasey status. On the plus side, I was wondering what to do now I’ve done Red Dwarf and Arrested Development back to back. Phil has shown me the way. February 23, 2009 at 8:11 pm #92423 PhilParticipant >What? They have commentaries? *runs to DVD cabinet* There’s always the chance that you WON’T like them, but I doubt it. The commentaries get as funny as the material they’re commenting on, at times. I do remember the commentary for the film being less good for some reason…but they’re top notch for the episodes. (Reece is a big whiner in the series 3 commentary though. Ignore everything he thinks is wrong.) February 23, 2009 at 8:17 pm #92424 AnonymousInactive No worries man and thanks for the heads up. Even if I don’t like them it’s about time the League got another viewing. February 23, 2009 at 8:22 pm #92426 JamesTCParticipant Series V and VI had the best commentary, ‘Holoship’ especially was very funny, Craig Charles wasn’t present but Chris Barrie made it seem as if he was! February 23, 2009 at 8:36 pm #92429 PhilParticipant http://www.ganymede.tv/indepth/cast-commentary-corrections I’d kill for more of these from G+T. Not sure who I’d kill though. Maybe Ian. February 23, 2009 at 9:27 pm #92432 JamesParticipant What do you expect? They are people who remember lines off a piece of paper, that are relevent to a story. I wouldn’t expect them to remeber how many chickens they bought last year. February 23, 2009 at 9:40 pm #92433 DaveParticipant >Reece is a big whiner in the series 3 commentary Reece is a big whiner, full stop. February 23, 2009 at 10:15 pm #92434 pfmParticipant Homoerotic opening… February 24, 2009 at 12:07 am #92441 Seb PatrickKeymaster Best DVD commentary ever is Spinal Tap, clearly. CLEARLY. I’m Alan Partridge tried to do the same thing, but it wasn’t anywhere near as good. February 24, 2009 at 12:18 am #92442 PhilParticipant >Best DVD commentary ever is Spinal Tap, clearly. CLEARLY. WHOOPS. I should have specified I was talking about TV shows when I made my comment. If you take films into account the door is open much wider. And, yes, Tap probably does earn the crown. >I?m Alan Partridge tried to do the same thing, but it wasn?t anywhere near as good. Agreed, and a real shame because it should have been hilarious. February 24, 2009 at 12:23 am #92443 JamesTCParticipant Nothing can beat the commentaries on The Simpsons and Futurama, I just finished listening to the commentary for The Wild Green Yonder, as interesting and funny as ever though Billy West wasn’t on it, shame, it might be the last Futurama commentary ever! February 24, 2009 at 12:39 am #92445 siParticipant Rob Brydon’s commentaries on the ‘Director’s Commentary'(a truly under-rated series if ever there was one) DVD are pretty amusing. February 24, 2009 at 12:49 am #92446 CarlitoParticipant Director’s Commentary! I was thinking about this show earlier when I was reading this thread. Hang on, the DVD has a commentary track? Bizarre. I do own it, never noticed though. February 24, 2009 at 12:50 am #92448 JamesTCParticipant Kevin Smith has really funny commentaries too. February 24, 2009 at 1:08 am #92452 Seb PatrickKeymaster Yeah, I like the Askewniverse commentaries. Those, Dwarf and Spinal Tap are about the only ones I’ve really enjoyed sitting through. February 24, 2009 at 1:27 am #92455 Danny StephensonKeymaster Futurama commentaries are amongst the best commentaries I’ve ever heard. The League Commentaries are awesome, I really enjoy Reece’s cynicism, but what really pisses me off is whoever wrote the subtitles for the commentaries on LOG’s Apocalypse was fucking guessing who is speaking at the time. Really irritates me. I’m just pedantic like that. Apparently the Goonies have a video commentary which I’ve yet to watch. I also enjoy the Family Guy commentaries. I have yet to buy a Askewniverse DVD that has a commentary. I’m particularly interested in hearing the Commentary for ‘Dogma’, though. February 24, 2009 at 2:00 am #92457 pfmParticipant The League also did a commentary for the live show DVD, mainly due to fan request. It’s just hit me that I haven’t watched the panto one (The League Of Gentlemen Are Behind You) for AGES. I must dig that out. I can’t remember the last time I actually put a DVD on, I’ve been too busy watching bollocks like Lost, Galactica, 24, Dexter, Terminator:SCC and now Dollhouse, not to mention a constant stream of d/l’d’d crud like Benjamin Button, Slumdog Millionaire (Danny Boyle really deserved that Oscar, though I would have given The Dark Knight Best Picture, so shoot me, deserved the nom at least), Milk, The Wrestler, Clone Wars, The Reader, Frost/Nixon etc. February 24, 2009 at 2:01 am #92458 JamesTCParticipant >I have yet to buy a Askewniverse DVD that has a commentary. Odd. My Clerks has two. Mallrats has one. Chasing Amy has one. Jay and Silent Bob has one. Clerks II has three. Clerks the Animated Series has one. Only Dogma and the Evening with Kevin Smith DVDs don’t have one. February 24, 2009 at 2:13 am #92459 pfmParticipant Just checked my copy of Mallrats that I got for ?2.84 and yes it has the commentary on it (Smith, Affleck, Lee, Mewes etc.), though I’ve never listened to it. February 24, 2009 at 7:45 am #92468 Seb PatrickKeymaster For ages, the UK had a crappy vanilla version of Mallrats. A few years back, we finally got the version with extras, but they still used the crappy cover, despite the fact that the US cover is one of the greatest movie posters of all time : http://www.hyperobots.com/wp-content/uploads/2008/03/mallrats.jpg February 24, 2009 at 9:48 am #92471 siParticipant Would this be a bad place to mention the Hyperdrive commentaries? February 24, 2009 at 3:50 pm #92477 JamesParticipant Ron Burgundy is one of my favs, but the best of all time is Kung Pow. February 24, 2009 at 10:06 pm #92513 hummingbirdParticipant > I have yet to buy a Askewniverse DVD that has a commentary. I’ve always seen Mallrats as the weakest link, so I’ve never bothered to buy the DVD. But all the rest have commentaries. February 24, 2009 at 10:52 pm #92519 JamesTCParticipant Mallrats is my favourite Kevin Smith film. February 25, 2009 at 12:05 am #92534 CarlitoParticipant Seconded. February 25, 2009 at 12:14 am #92540 Ben PaddonParticipant Reading this has me tempted to go back and write commentaries for all of the Jump Leads pages now. February 25, 2009 at 5:12 pm #92653 Tarka DalParticipant > Ron Burgundy is one of my favs, but the best of all time is Kung Pow. Kung Pow has a commentary. Did not know. February 25, 2009 at 5:23 pm #92656 JamesTCParticipant Arn’t they meant to be making a sequal to Kung Pow? February 25, 2009 at 5:26 pm #92658 Tarka DalParticipant Short Version: No Long Version: No. February 25, 2009 at 5:27 pm #92659 JamesTCParticipant I remember seeing it listed on IMDB though I also remember seeing Red Dwarf: The Movie listed. February 25, 2009 at 5:29 pm #92663 Tarka DalParticipant > I remember seeing it listed on IMDB Oh dear, oh dear, OH DEAR. February 25, 2009 at 5:34 pm #92666 JamesTCParticipant Well I know it is not the most reliable source but I wasn’t saying it was fact, I was just wondering. February 25, 2009 at 5:43 pm #92674 JamesParticipant Ron Burgundy is one of my favs, but the best of all time is Kung Pow. Kung Pow has a commentary. Did not know. It’s a Directors Commentary, but it’s everyone involved, it’s totally barking! February 25, 2009 at 9:48 pm #92695 Tarka DalParticipant > Well I know it is not the most reliable source but I wasn?t saying it was fact, I was just wondering. It’s just not a very trustworthy resource. For example, Norman Lovett as Davros? February 25, 2009 at 9:51 pm #92696 JamesTCParticipant >Norman Lovett as Davros? I would pay to see that, alot! Imagine what he would do if they took his ball that time, he would get his Daleks to exterminate everyone until he got it back.
