There was black paint residue on the back of the panel, lifted from the main body. They probably built the basic shape of the ship, then sprayed it black to prevent light bleed, before cladding it & drilling window holes . There is extra weathering, repairs/damage & touch ups visible in the additional video taped FX shots in series 2. The masking tape might have been for that? Looks like Software glitch, the numbering #267100 fits between my other posts in May Looks like my “failed” posting attempt spent 3 months buffering in the system.???? August 28, 2021 at 1:33 pm in reply to: Collectible item from original Red Dwarf model – revisited #267100 Captain StarParticipant I have some model shop photos of the original model https://i.postimg.cc/zGfWSnG4/Red-Dwarf-original-1.jpg https://i.postimg.cc/dQxKVFTd/Red-Dwarf-original-2.jpg https://i.postimg.cc/8k2NbDPG/Red-Dwarf-original-3.jpg May 29, 2021 at 5:40 pm in reply to: Collectible item from original Red Dwarf model – revisited #267104 Captain StarParticipant They popped up on ebay about 4 year ago. I didn’t win them, but did manage to get scans. May 28, 2021 at 4:55 pm in reply to: Collectible item from original Red Dwarf model – revisited #267054 Captain StarParticipant Also question … is it made of wood? Which is looks like in that pic. Because I’d always assumed it was parts moulded from plastic in some way. Its layered sheet styrene & plasticard with panel lines scored across the surface. The kit bash parts are from several 80’s “Robotech” kits (Orguss II & Battroid Valkyrie). I had a bit of luck as someone on another forum was building a replica of Picard’s Stargazer model from TNG & I recognized a part reused on the ship. Once I new the type of kits to search for… Robotech, Xabungle Walker Machines, Macross etc. I identified a lot of parts used all over the ship. The white name plate is cartage paper with fine pen/pencil line work & scored panel lines.(the left side still need gumming back down) No tiny lister just a small reddish square with minor damage. Naturally the lettering itself is off limits to touch ups. I’m glad it’s getting the care it deserves! I would love to see some photos of it sometime. I recently scratch built a Red Dwarf, and the original model has always fascinated me since I was little Same here, I also have a Scratch built model of it (just needs painting & the Ram Scoop building). I’d post progress pics but, I’ve not used Photobucket since in it went nuts with fees. I’ll have look to see if my account still works. May 28, 2021 at 11:13 am in reply to: Collectible item from original Red Dwarf model – revisited #267043 Captain StarParticipant Which part was it? Looks like the picture links are dead. Its the front name plate from the original 8ft model. The pictures are still active on the first thread Collectible item from original Red Dwarf model May 27, 2021 at 7:02 pm in reply to: Collectible item from original Red Dwarf model – revisited #267039 Captain StarParticipant I acquired it a few year ago. It’s slowly being sensitively repaired & completed as much as possible with most of it’s missing kit bash details identified & replaced with vintage parts. Its torn & missing corners have also been faithfully reconstructed. May 25, 2019 at 12:05 am in reply to: What improvements can be made for XIII? #249745 Captain StarParticipant Richard Ayoade guest staring as both Jim & Bexley for an episode or two would be interesting, with Bexley being a hologram to acknowledge Future Echoes. May 24, 2019 at 11:41 pm in reply to: What improvements can be made for XIII? #249741 Captain StarParticipant A return to the original “real” version of the ship would be nice, using a combination of the original model footage in HD and new matching miniature/CGI version for new shots where needed. The ships the current model might be the right length, but I till hate the details. It looks like the small series 5 model & Star Destroyer had a baby that grew up & collided with the Clangers moon. Just use the dimension hopping in Skipper as an excuse. January 17, 2019 at 3:55 pm in reply to: Out Of Time #242670 Captain StarParticipant I like to think that the “Brain in a jar” Uncle Lister jokingly tells his mates about in Balance of Power is the “future” Lister from Out of Time. January 13, 2019 at 3:26 pm in reply to: Schools Programme ID #242376 Captain StarParticipant Kate Bellingham looks about right & the programme title “Techno” sounds familiar (it did have a funky synthesizer theme tune). January 12, 2019 at 4:59 pm in reply to: Schools Programme ID #242288 Captain StarParticipant I tried her credits but nothing matched. I’ve tried Caron Keating as well & Vorderman (to be sure) January 11, 2019 at 9:52 pm in reply to: Schools Programme ID #242225 Captain StarParticipant It wasn’t Small World. That was used as an extra on a Doctor Who DVD, so it couldn’t be that. The woman presenter was a common sight on TV at the time, but cant remember her name to search credits. She was kind of similar to Carol Vorderman. December 30, 2018 at 5:16 pm in reply to: Red dwarf on ebay again #241231 Captain StarParticipant The Bridge section was missing from the Remastered model long before the Series X resize. The part in question is absent from the “Movie” test shot, along with a few smaller parts. In the test footage the model has an unpainted “T” footprint where the bridge stood, with a piece of replacement gubbins on top (the film is also flipped, so its on the right side on screen) Its possible that the part/parts fell off & were added to a box of useful kitbash salvage from the original 2 models.
