oh pecos i’m gonna disagree directly on one thing, the charachterisation of ben stabbing you in the back is pretty illogical, he did it in a thread you started and you were clearly not yet finished with, there is no going behind your back involoved that I can see.

Dude if this had just ben a rant done for ironies sake i’d probably be completely on your side. I’m Australian myself and even I get sick of Aussies moaning about getting things last. Frankly if they see that as a major problem in the grand scheme of things then they need to start thinking about appreciating just how blessed their life is at that time.

I see both points of view to be honest, I can see why he would but i can also see why some are questioning.

Afterall Doug Naylor isn’t the sort to try and pretend he has never made mistakes, he has always been quite open about errors and poor choices so it seems like a bit of a pointless arguement

Why ban anyone anyway (and yeah i hget when peeps are deliberately spoiling there is no time for a long game strategy, and thus unusual responses apply), Ian seems to have a skill that a (now unfortunately long deceased) mate from usenet used to have, the ability to distinguish between annoying and trolling and then, when the genuine troll is identified, to make them pretty much kook out on cue.

im wondering how PBS, which frankly is unlikely to be anything other than bonus money to GN productions saved a show 6 years before it was written personally. Especially when they are so desperate to get sounbytes from the cast for pledge week the question of who is carrying whom is still kind of open to debate. Either way who cares, it is not like anyone has been stopped from watching it. Given the current state of world economics perhaps the Australian government owned network was able to find the cash to stump up quicker. The GFC has still barely touched us as yet.

Im assuming Johnathan Capps as a featured guest is a sign that everything is now resolved to everyones satisfaction at both sites.

Assuming this is true I’m wondering if it might be an idea for a few of us in the group to offer to help them with preparing some crib notes for each episode.

Basically im thinking along the lines of ‘the more net activity us fans can generate and sustain the easier it makes it for Doug Naylor when it comes to negotiations both regarding commissioning and budgeting’

To those who have had contact with them do youi feel this would be welcomed as helpful or do you think it might be taken as insulting,, obviously you cant garuantee what their reaction will be but you guys prob have a more accurate estimate than I would

Hopefully if ever approached I hope these guys are willing to do mates rates, and many of the cast and crew are actually the right age and background to OBN connections to several of them so fingers crossed

Restricting them to very minor cameos probably would help with the focus issues.

Arthur Smith as well, it seems to me that Holly needs to be of a certain generation of comedian, that were around in the heyday. It’s not a ‘hey remember this bloke’ it’s more of an attitude and style of comedy.

Agreed and must be someone for whom dead-pan is their natural performance style, the number of cameos i’d like to see unfortunately would be too expensive.

Fry guesting as a whoesque timelord (played in the vein of Melchett or perhaps the conservative politician from A bit of Fry and Laurie)

Lister served by Atkinson ( resurecting his slightly overemphasized Indian Waiter)

Bill Bailey as a GELF Judge (Last Human style)

In anInterview with Australias Andrew Denton, Billy Connolly expressed some interest in the show as an example of (i think the actual words were something like) wonderfully sublime silliness or something along those names. (as all of us fans of the Bigun know Connolly rarely uses silly in the sence of an insult)

As I said I realise it will never happen

A) these guys can command payrates similar to an entire episodes budget

B) such high profile guests would make it very hard to keep the focus on the main cast, especially given most of those mentioned can quite easily steal an entire scene without even really meaning too

Looks like i fall into the dopey category a bit here lol, my alias is my real life nickname anyway, other than my mother and my god daughter just about everybody calls me Fozzi, even many of my clients.

As a youth worker I am simply not allowed to friend with clients, their relatives or close friends on things like facebook, it is considered a serious ethical breach by my industry association and to be honest, while it is on occassion inconvenient, I can see their point. A dodgy worker would be in a position to too easily groom a vulnerable young person.

As to the main article. This i literally the first i’ve heard of new Yes Minister, I would be very interested in any and all details anyone can give. I don’t envy whoever it is who has to fill Nigel Hawthornes shoes though.

A little tid bit, I was actually in the video store to rent some yes minister tapes when i first discovered the Big Rouge One, now i’m here to discuss red dwarf and have actively stumbled on Yes Minister so this is kind of a mini full circle type moment for me lol

You’ll probably find it is blocked by the overwhelming majority of Australian Highschools, universities, libraries and youth centres as well, our fedeeral government has mandated a compulsory net-nanny type system for any and all institutions that have public access computers which can be accessed by minors. Unfortunately quite a few net-cafes have signed up to this system as well so you can probably count out (as a very loose guestimate) 30-40 % of them as well.

Mind you I’m certain by now that the sysops have long since considered the possibility that it is a policy that might restrict their distribution in some markets and have decided to discount it as less important than other goals

just a wild thought, maybe that is a block to movie money, the major studios might have a fear that the post cinematic release will be so superior to literally anything they have ever done it might show up just how lazy their efforts have been on even movie DVD releases. Other than RD and LOTR i’d be stunned if *any* of the commercial DVD’s i’ve got fill even half the disk.
LOTR is a case in point, like Naylor, Jackson is a fan of his Genre as much as they are producers of it unlike say Rick Berman whose primary interest (and most significant talents) lies in cultural dcumentaries and by his own admission largely fell into the Trek show runner role mainly because he was the most junior producer on the paramount lot at the time TNG was pitched and thus the only one who couldn’t wriggle their way out of a meeting with Rodenberry (luckily for him he also turned out to be one of the few producers on the lot who Rodenberry both liked and more importantly could not easily intimidate).

As a long time usenet user i just assume its normal for each fandom to have its twonks.
I mean analysis and deconstruction are fine but there are people where you quickly get to the point of thinking, or even stating
“if you hate this show so much that it seems to offend your very existance and you are continuing to watch then clearly you are too dumb to know how to use the off or switches and hence your opinion is irrelevant”
