There were a few series 7 based comments in the old thread here, but frankly we need a new one at this point to avoid that pagination BULLSHIT.

If you haven’t checked out the Big Finish audio adventures, I highly recommend them. The current latest one (To The Death) is fucking amazing, but you need to listen to the whole Eighth Doctor Adventures to appreciate it, I think. There’s only four series, shouldn’t take you too long. GO.

Nice ending…although I had heard this ending being predicted a couple of weeks back on The Doctor Who Podcast.

I don’t think we’ve seen the last of Rory and Amy though. Although I was ready for a break away from them.

[Pete Part Three]

A little undewhelmed, to be honest. I found the story slightly lacking (a bit too much running around) and, were it not for the sentimentality of it all, it might have been a bit empty. The last scene was lovely but it seemed to cover similar ground to “The Girl Who Waited” which I preferred.

And the Doctor struggling to get to 1938. Hey, try December 31st 1937 and then wait a bit!

Agree with the underwhelmed thing. But a nice ending for the charscters.

If Moffat wasn’t gonna give us a payoff with the Ponds and Melody then River didn’t even need to be in the episode IMO.

Plenty of good stuff going on, but missed out on being really great by a gnat’s wing.

I’m willing to forgive the lingering questions (surely someone must be looking at the Statue of Liberty – which could have been an episode in itself – at all times in general, especially when you can hear it coming, and I guess we’re meant to assume the Ponds haven’t been zapped back into the battery farm but lived a happy life together) for how much I enjoyed it after finding the half-series a bit meh overall.

Next time have the Angels in Los Angeles, eh? ;)

Does Brian Williams know he has a granddaughter? Especially with Amy’s selective memory on whether she’s a parent or not.

Also, with regards to how distraught the Doctor became at losing them. What’s stopping him from visiting Amy and Rory a year or two after they landed in the past. River did say he doesn’t like to see people age, so ten years maybe a bit too much. But only a year or two should be okay…

I’m no fan of Doomsday as a story but I think the last ten minutes are great, and that episode struck me as being far more successful at writing out a character. In a similar vein, I was no fan of Donna but thought her exit in Journey’s End was wonderful. Both pulled at the heartstrings more than this. They were all contrived reasons as to why The Doctor can’t see that person again, but in Angels it feel more overt, more awkward and less believable that a Time Lord can’t think his way out of this constraint.

Karen Gillan has been quoted as saying that she’s “gone for good”, but Rose’s exit was more definite…and she came back (unfortunately). I’ve had enough of Amy though (have begun to find her too brusque and sure of herself and would prefer The Doctor to have a more dominant personality, than that of half of a partnership, or one leg of a tripod) so I hope this sticks.

I read in a preview that Murray Gold’s music was a high point of the episode, but I’ve got to admit, I can’t remember any of the music from this episode, whereas I can recall the background music from Doomsday when Rose leaves and the Doctor does all emo on us. I’m looking forward to next year’s episodes, though.

I’m also really excited about “Dark Eyes”, the new Paul McGann audio adventure that takes place after the emotionally catastrophic events of To The Death. I’m looking forward to these because I want to see different interpretations of how the Doctor deals with grief. Not sure why. Might be because my loyal dog was put down a month or so ago, and I’m still pretty much in shock about it. Was so sudden.

Overall, I enjoyed this half of the series pretty well. I enjoyed each episode (though I still haven’t seen The Power of Three), especially A Town Called Mercy. I really enjoyed that one.

Fans have grown used to companion departures being big events. The simplicity of the Ponds’ departure – here one minute, gone the next, with no 15-minute cap afterwards – was refreshing, and much closer to how the classic series would bid farewell to companions. I liked it. Doomsday was spectacular, but Russell T Davies hit that same note with every companion he bid farewell to afterwards. It grew tiresome.

I grew weary of the Ponds but Matt moved up a notch, must of been the writting.
Still would like to see a new one! Maybe he will depart after Xmas.

Put simply, no.

I strongly doubt he ever will – and it would change the dynamic of the series dramatically if he did, not that it would necessarily be show-ruining or anything, it would just make it a quite different series – but changed-sex regenerations are canonical now (courtesy of Gaiman at the very latest), even though I don’t think they were ever made so in the classic eps.

My uncle doesn’t mind the idea of the Doctor turning into a woman, but when he heard a rumour that Patterson Joseph, a BLACK man, was under consideration he was very much not in favour.
