I checked it right through before publishing yesterday, and somehow they still managed to slip though. I’m an imbecile. Just corrected them, and added a short note at the end of the piece. Thank you! January 22, 2017 at 7:09 pm #219209 flanl3Participant It’s alright. After all, if things like that never happened, mistakes were never made, and errors never slipped through the cracks, you’d have lost a third of your content. January 27, 2017 at 12:02 pm #219215 John HoareParticipant ‘ALLO ‘ALLO EDITS TIME, IT’S ‘ALLO ‘ALLO EDITS TIME http://www.dirtyfeed.org/2017/01/allo-allo-pigeon-post/ January 27, 2017 at 3:06 pm #219216 MANI506Participant Thanks to John I have watched the first episodes of Hi de Hi and Allo Allo. There is much good stuff to come I think! John and Tanya also got me watching Brittas and Filthy Rich & Catflap. Lovely people! February 8, 2017 at 8:06 pm #219254 John HoareParticipant Cheers, thank you! That someone ever watches something based on my nonsense is my favourite thing about doing the site. Anyway, I’ve finally finished my piece comparing the DVD and the BBC Two repeats of Hi-de-Hi! from last year, so links to all four articles are: Pilot: http://www.dirtyfeed.org/2016/09/hi-de-hi-edits-1/ Series 1: http://www.dirtyfeed.org/2016/11/hi-de-hi-edits-2/ Series 2-5: http://www.dirtyfeed.org/2016/12/hi-de-hi-edits-3/ Series 6-9: http://www.dirtyfeed.org/2017/02/hi-de-hi-edits-4/ Nearly five months between the first and last articles of the series, which is slightly excessive. Although perhaps not as excessive as this. It’s been a while since I posted something on Dirty Feed which I thought might interest people here, but here’s something about TV playout and THAT McDonald’s advert: http://www.dirtyfeed.org/2017/05/mcdonalds-playout/ May 21, 2017 at 9:14 pm #219790 John HoareParticipant New design launched, so now you can all read it on mobiles without cricking your neck. http://www.dirtyfeed.org/2017/05/dirty-feed-iii/ June 11, 2017 at 9:44 am #219853 John HoareParticipant How a BBC Micro can help you with your morality: http://www.dirtyfeed.org/2017/06/how-strong-are-your-moral-values/ June 29, 2017 at 10:48 am #219967 John HoareParticipant CONTENT WARNING: JIMMY SAVILE http://www.dirtyfeed.org/2017/06/get-ready-for-jim/ September 24, 2017 at 8:16 am #221829 John HoareParticipant It’s been a while since I wrote anything on Dirty Feed which seemed suitable to let people know about on here, but I’ve finally come up with something. On one of Trev and Simon’s funniest and rudest jokes… and how it was censored for video release: http://www.dirtyfeed.org/2017/09/a-public-service-announcement-on-trev-and-simon/ September 25, 2017 at 9:45 am #221870 Pete Part ThreeParticipant I really regret not hanging on to Trev and Simon’s Stupid Book. Utterly hilarious. September 25, 2017 at 6:03 pm #221891 clemParticipant Did you scribble all over the clown? December 5, 2017 at 9:01 pm #225683 John HoareParticipant Not published anything on Dirty Feed for a while, but you may (or indeed may not) enjoy this which I’ve just posted about one reason why I love jingles: http://www.dirtyfeed.org/2017/12/in-jingle-heaven-since-1977/ February 25, 2018 at 9:07 am #228413 John HoareParticipant If you’re interested in Dennis Potter, you might find this analysis of the changes made between the original script and the final play of Stand Up, Nigel Barton interesting: http://www.dirtyfeed.org/2018/02/stand-up-nigel-barton/ If you are not interested in Dennis Potter, you might not find that analysis of the changes made between the original script and the final play of Stand Up, Nigel Barton interesting. April 3, 2018 at 8:36 pm #230136 John HoareParticipant Something fun about an early version of the famous letter in The Breakfast Club: http://www.dirtyfeed.org/2018/04/sincerely-yours-the-breakfast-club/ April 4, 2018 at 8:03 am #230143 Ben PaddonParticipant I know people don’t comment on this thread so much, but I want you to know that I love the time, effort, energy and verve that you put into pieces like this. Bloody marvelous stuff. April 5, 2018 at 12:52 pm #230241 John HoareParticipant Ah, thanks Ben! I really appreciate it. I’m expecting less feedback at the moment anyway, on here at least, because I’ve drifted away from writing about sitcoms. I must rectify that… April 5, 2018 at 3:15 pm #230249 Taiwan TonyParticipant I do love a Dirty Feed article. And I am feeling slightly guilty about enjoying sitcoms more than the works on Dennis Potter, for example. But I remember sitting down (on my bed) to watch Cold Lazarus when it first aired on telly. (The Channel 4 one, I think.) Listening to the Frank Skinner Show podcast (episode: “Gitcoin”), I’ve just learnt about 2 sitcoms I don’t think I ever knew about. Chance In A Million, which was written by the writers of The Brittas Empire, and The Gnomes of Dulwich which sounds like it was cribbed by the writers of Chish ‘n’ Fips. June 12, 2018 at 8:06 am #232769 John HoareParticipant Apologies TT – I entirely missed your post before now! Thank you. I’ve been meaning to write about Chance in a Million for ages – by rights, we should have covered it on G&T as soon as the DVD came out… Meanwhile, I just wrote this about the churn of television: http://www.dirtyfeed.org/2018/06/the-churn/ (Please note, Westworld fans – at no point in this article do I say that Star Trek: Voyager is better than Westworld. A skim-reading of it might suggest I do say that, but in fact I do not.) June 12, 2018 at 8:39 am #232770 Pete Part ThreeParticipant It is, though. August 5, 2018 at 4:28 pm #235601 John HoareParticipant Audience recording report, on The Lenny Henry Birthday Show: http://www.dirtyfeed.org/2018/08/the-lenny-henry-birthday-show/ August 25, 2018 at 4:42 pm #236457 LilyParticipant Just got around to watching this on iplayer. I could have done with more interview and less sketches, but I can understand why someone who’s not been on telly in ages would want to do some new stuff. The aggressive interview style you mentioned certainly came through, especially at the start when talking about childhood but he did seem to chill out a bit later. Overall though a good watch and one I probably wouldn’t have bothered with if I’d not read your report a few weeks ago :) August 29, 2018 at 6:51 am #236609 John HoareParticipant Hooray! Something I wrote was actually of some use! Thank you. (Oddly enough, I’ve not got round to watching the final show yet. It’s sitting on the Sky+, waiting…) September 22, 2018 at 11:24 pm #237420 John HoareParticipant In which I review Channel 4 game show Cheap Cheap Cheap precisely one year late to the day: http://www.dirtyfeed.org/2018/09/cheap-cheap-cheap/ September 24, 2018 at 3:30 pm #237435 Flap JackParticipant I don’t think I’d even heard of Cheap, Cheap, Cheap until now, but it was a good read regardless! Based on your description, it sounds vaguely Shooting Stars-ish. Colour me moderately interested. September 24, 2018 at 6:53 pm #237437 Paul MullerParticipant Eminently readable and informative as always John. Noel Edmonds is still a twat though. I loved that series – I should check out the DVDs. (Also, did you ever read the novel? An interesting one.) October 31, 2018 at 2:28 pm #238669 John HoareParticipant Ah, thank you! Definitely worth getting the DVDs – what’s especially interesting is how little of it is topical comedy. It’s mainly just an extremely amusing office sitcom. I’ve never read the book, but I should try it after I’ve finished my rewatch. I seem to recall it’s based around an unmade script for a DTDD film… October 31, 2018 at 3:21 pm #238672 DaveParticipant Yeah, I watched a few episodes on Channel 4’s online streaming service (whatever it’s called this week) a while back and was surprised by how well it had aged – the topical stuff was less prominent than I remembered. Maybe it stood out more at the time because there wasn’t quite as much up-to-the-minute topical comedy available as we have today. The novel is slightly odd in that it was released in 1994 but set in 1999/2000 (in line with the ’90s obsession with the millennium), so might read strangely today given our knowledge of what happened in the intervening years. Plus, it diverges quite a bit from the TV series by the end. I guess it’s a way of sidestepping the problems of doing a topical comedy in book form (or as originally intended, as a film) – by essentially creating an alternate future to play in rather than worrying about reflecting real life – but inevitably some jokes take on a different meaning given subsequent real-life events (I’m sure there’s at least one Princess Diana gag in there). Ahhhhhh. December 26, 2018 at 3:02 pm #241026 International DebrisParticipant Has anyone done an Onion / Clickhole-style site that parodies things like Den of Geek? Because reading that article has made me want to read lots more articles like that. December 26, 2018 at 5:18 pm #241028 Ben SaundersParticipant I’m sure I’ve seen something along those lines but I can’t remember where. You have RedLetterMedia’s “The Nerd Crew” which is a pisstake of “nerd culture” YouTube shows like Collider, etc July 23, 2019 at 11:55 pm #253038 John HoareParticipant With many thanks to Darrell, here’s something on Dirty Feed which hopefully a few of you will be interested in.
