October 12, 2024 at 7:42 am #298943 UnrumbleParticipant October 16, 2024 at 5:19 am #298991 MichelleLyonsParticipant Paula has apparently returned from her holidays, and so they’ll be returning to Dave-era RD shortly. In the meantime Kat did a couple of Patreon-only movie reactions – latest one that went up last night (and that I just watched, due to my dreadful sleeping pattern) was Robocop. They liked it a lot, which was very pleasing to someone like me who’s seen it a billion times – my last screening was about two months ago at my local cinema for the 4K director’s cut! October 23, 2024 at 10:12 pm #299173 PodeyParticipant Just watching their Twentica reaction and it made me realise I have absolutely no idea what the name is a play on. I’m sure it was discussed at the time and I’ve just forgotten. Anyone? October 23, 2024 at 11:12 pm #299175 cwickhamParticipant It’s a portmanteau of “twenties” and “America” October 24, 2024 at 5:38 am #299180 FormicaParticipant It invokes the right feel in the imagination but it still may well be the worst episode title in the whole run. October 24, 2024 at 5:40 am #299181 FormicaParticipant Are Twentica and Cured the only two episodes in which an assumed historical figure later turns out not to be? Do we ever do setup/reply-style forum games around here? Giving two episodes and trying to guess a thing that they and only they have in common seems like it could have a bit of fun in it. October 24, 2024 at 6:07 am #299191 DaveParticipant Are Twentica and Cured the only two episodes in which an assumed historical figure later turns out not to be? I guess it depends whether you/the characters initially buy that the wax droids were really who they’re pretending to be in Meltdown. Lister initially seems to think the matter paddle might have sent them back in time after meeting Hitler and his crew. October 24, 2024 at 6:29 am #299193 PodeyParticipant There’s also Jesus. October 24, 2024 at 8:17 am #299198 Flap JackParticipant Confidence & Paranoia. That wasn’t the real Mayor of Warsaw. October 24, 2024 at 9:59 am #299209 Quinn: Clochebusters World ChampionParticipant Queeg. That wasn’t the real Queeg October 24, 2024 at 10:00 am #299210 Quinn: Clochebusters World ChampionParticipant That was a joke but seriously Better Than Life, both Marylin Monroe and Napoleon October 24, 2024 at 10:15 am #299212 clemParticipant Craig Charles in Back to Earth October 24, 2024 at 10:40 am #299213 Quinn: Clochebusters World ChampionParticipant Ainsley Harriet was real, it’s the characters that weren’t. New headcanon. Can’t Smeg Won’t Smeg was an Ainsley Harriet fever dream. October 24, 2024 at 10:49 am #299214 DaveParticipant That was a joke but seriously Better Than Life, both Marylin Monroe and Napoleon But nobody (characters or audience) initially thinks they’re the real versions. October 24, 2024 at 11:32 am #299216 Ian SymesKeymaster The triple-headed skeleton in DNA wasn’t actually Glenn Miller. October 24, 2024 at 1:42 pm #299219 Nick RParticipant Are Twentica and Cured the only two episodes in which an assumed historical figure later turns out not to be? Ace Rimmer in Stoke Me A Clipper turns out not to be the Ace they met in Dimension Jump. (Ace counts as a historical figure to them because the deep sleep in Psirens means they met him hundreds of years ago.) October 24, 2024 at 1:46 pm #299220 Nick RParticipant It’s a portmanteau of “twenties” and “America” You know, it never occurred to me that the “twen-” in the title referred to “’20s” – I always assumed it was for “20th century”. October 24, 2024 at 2:24 pm #299222 Quinn: Clochebusters World ChampionParticipant I’d also assumed the “ca” was Vic and Bob introducing Ulreka Johnson October 24, 2024 at 4:21 pm #299229 Ben SaundersParticipant The people who come to rescue Rimmer from Rimmerworld are not actually Derek, Kit and Titan. October 24, 2024 at 4:50 pm #299231 FormicaParticipant The resurrected crew in Series VIII are net really, in fact, the original crew October 24, 2024 at 7:57 pm #299236 PodeyParticipant October 24, 2024 at 9:56 pm #299237 Flap JackParticipant I am trying to think of examples for “applies to exactly 2 episodes”. Are Bodyswap and Timeslides the only 2 episodes where both Lister and Rimmer – the actual ones, not alternate versions of them – are played by people other than their primary actors? October 24, 2024 at 10:10 pm #299238 WarbodogParticipant Are Bodyswap and Timeslides the only 2 episodes where both Lister and Rimmer – the actual ones, not alternate versions of them – are played by people other than their primary actors? If you’re prepared to broaden it out from people, the light bee prop plays Rimmer in The Inquisitor alongside the more conventionally human Listers. Edit: Never mind, you specified not alternate versions. October 24, 2024 at 10:25 pm #299239 WarbodogParticipant I checked Stasis Leak for a Lister body double to go with the Rimmer one (there isn’t one), but was amused to see this normally unnoticeable split screen error when he closes the door on himself. October 24, 2024 at 10:28 pm #299240 Flap JackParticipant Yeah, if I included alternate versions, then I would be foiled by Parallel Universe and Back to Reality. No need for anyone to argue that a character can be “played” by a prop. October 24, 2024 at 10:29 pm #299241 FormicaParticipant Are Bodyswap and Timeslides the only two episodes in which somebody is shown to be presumed dead shortly after eating food on-screen? October 24, 2024 at 10:33 pm #299242 WarbodogParticipant No need for anyone to argue that a character can be “played” by a prop. Are these dolls playing them, or some kind of blurry slide of the actors? October 24, 2024 at 11:19 pm #299243 loadoftottnumbParticipant Not in the same episode but Ouroboros has a different actor playing the original Lister, and Dimension Jump and the beginning has someone else playing original Rimmer. October 25, 2024 at 12:03 am #299245 UnrumbleParticipant October 25, 2024 at 12:32 am #299248 TechnopeasantParticipant Are Bodyswap and Timeslides the only two episodes in which somebody is shown to be presumed dead shortly after eating food on-screen? In the abridged Better Than Life audiobook someone is literally dead after eating food. October 25, 2024 at 12:35 am #299249 TechnopeasantParticipant In Polymorph Howard is played by someone other than Mark Dexter, unless he is the one filming. October 25, 2024 at 1:23 am #299252 TechnopeasantParticipant October 25, 2024 at 1:24 am #299254 TechnopeasantParticipant And in Kryten a different actor played the original Kryten. October 25, 2024 at 1:41 am #299255 TechnopeasantParticipant October 25, 2024 at 6:48 am #299265 WarbodogParticipant The poultry and rodent actors who played Lister in DNA aren’t listed in the credits or IMDb, so why does Allison get a credit in Stoke Me a Clipper? October 25, 2024 at 7:39 am #299266 Quinn: Clochebusters World ChampionParticipant The poultry and rodent actors who played Lister in DNA aren’t listed in the credits or IMDb, so why does Allison get a credit in Stoke Me a Clipper? Well, if you want to get all picky about it. October 25, 2024 at 9:54 am #299286 WarbodogParticipant There was also that time in Back In The Red Part 3 when the main cast sans Rimmer were all played by plasticine. In Quarantine, Lister and Rimmer talk over the radio and their characters are both played by speakers.
