That does sound like something ‘our’ Rimmer might do to him!

I suppose what I mean about VIII Rimmer is that, even though he’s esentially the same as Series I Rimmer at the start, by the end of it all he is his own man. Both Rimmers went through vastly different experiences and grew in different ways. Maybe it’s just me, but I’ve always thought that Nano!Rimmer would make for a more believable choice as the next Ace. I never really bought Rimmer flying off so quickly in Stoke Me A Clipper. I always imagined that at some point after leaving, whether hours or days or weeks later, it would all catch up to him and he’d be left wondering what the hell was he thinking letting himself get swept up in it all.

I remember in one of the VIII extras (I think), when they were talking about the ending of Only The Good, that Doug mentioned one of the ideas he’d had was that Ace would come in and save Nano!Rimmer at the end. Until/if we find out what actually happened I’ve decided to just believe that’s what did happen, and that the two Rimmers changed places. I think VIII Rimmer would be a better choice for the job, which would then allow ‘our’ Rimmer to return to the Dwarf without breaking the chain. As to how everything else was fixed and what happened in the meanwhile…. *shrugs*

Of course, maybe it was just as simple as Nano!Rimmer dying at the end of Only The Good and at some point ‘Ace’ deciding he’d had enough of trying to be someone he’s not and running home, or that this Rimmer was rebooted from a backup copy of his program from the point where he left to become Ace.

I’ve always preferred to watch the extended VII episodes without the laughter. In fact, when I was rewatching the DVDs recently I was surprised at how jarring the laughter seemed after watching those episodes. I was quite happy to find out that BtE would be without it, and even more so once I actually saw the shows as I really don’t see how it could have worked without dramatically changing the tone.

Well, I just looked at the convention forum and in one of the threads someone wrote ‘Finding out from Chloe, Robert and Danny that there’s going to be a new series!’. Hmm.

Ah Pete, but you see, I once sat through Boa Vs Python. Anything would look good after that.

Nah, it wasn’t all that awful, just kind of ‘meh’. To be honest I didn’t mind it really, but then I just enjoyed seeing Chris Barrie in something new. Dennis Waterman too.

I noticed a couple of days ago that his website was updated. He doesn’t really say anything, but he does sound quite optimistic.

That’s kind of the point though. They were in a bizarre situation that was nothing like their everyday lives. I thought that the quirky music suited both carbug and the whole surreal situation they were in.

Not bad, but I still think that the original music suited the scene better.

Actually, there are engine/energy noises in the background. The third time I watched part one was with headphones on and I could clearly hear a low thrumming in the background. Listen closely during quiet bits in the bunkroom and corridor scenes. Maybe they just need to be slightly louder then, as nobody seems to have noticed them.

I just caught DNA on telly. While the laughter works with the older shows, and is as much a part of them as anything else, watching it made me even more happy that the new shows didn’t have any. I actually enjoyed the more serious tone of BtE, and having laughter would have taken away from that.

Yep, a bit of a shock I’m sure. I’ve only ever been to one convention (for Stargate), and while there were obviously a high number of slashers there it wasn’t really a problem as the actors were already aware of it and even played up to it a fair bit. Was quite entertaining really.

Hell no, it wasn’t me. I wouldn’t have had the guts to bring it up, or the desire to put him on the spot like that. Still, I thought he handled it quite well and he was bound to find out about it all at some point anyway.

Yep, you’re probably right. I always forget what time it is over there, thought it was earlier. Oh well, I suppose it serves me right for trying to rein in my inner fangirl and not just giving in straight away. *sigh*

That’s it. I’m giving in. I doubt there will be much mention over here whenever it gets shown, so I’m just going to have to grab what I can from over there.

Can someone pick me up some of these tv magazines please? I’m afraid the Aussie dollar is worth diddly at the moment, so I need a kind soul who will do it for cost. I can Paypal the money over to cover the mags and postage. I’d love Total TV guide and TV & Satellite Week. Any others that have something decent in them would be great too, not just a line or two and a thumbnail photo for example.
