Ahead of the forthcoming 35th anniversary poll, the G&T community is embarking on a big old rewatch, tackling half a series (or one feature length special) per week. This is your designated thread to make notes, share observations and start pondering your rankings. This week, we’re watching TROJAN, FATHERS & SUNS and LEMONS. Have at it! I don’t know how you can look at the episode “take it at face value” and draw the conclusion that it is a critique of one particular social media platform – which at the time of writing the episode had a lot more of a broad section of society and communities on it, and wasn’t the complete cesspit it became. Throwing the terms unemployed and self righteous together I don’t think is really doing you any favours in trying to distance yourself for the sort of sneering that you’re accusing everyone on Twitter (or the episode?) of? December 8, 2025 at 4:39 pm #314567 Flap JackParticipant I mean, I got the vibe it was commenting on social media to the extent that some people on it are extremely hostile to criticism. But if the commentary is “people on social media are just pretending to be camp because they’re childish and insecure” then that’s really bad! Portraying these differences as both harmful and fake is bad!!! And even if dressing in elaborate pink costumes were genuinely just a way for people to hide their insecurities and pointing this out were insightful commentary, it’s a pretty big leap from “not being open about who you truly are” to “gets yourself and all of your peers killed”. There’s nothing wrong with being unemployed, for however long. Most everyone has been there. Mental health is important, finding the right job is important. But to spitefully refuse to even try to improve or accept that you have to change something about your life is a strange type of pride that should be discouraged. And even if dressing in elaborate pink costumes were just a way for people to hide their insecurities, it’s a pretty big leap from “not being open about who you truly are” to “gets yourself and all of your peers killed”. Yeah, that’s why I said it should be more balanced. But I was more open towards Timewave because Christian critiques have been done to death whereas I hadn’t really seen anyone tackle this particular niche subject. And also because it is so niche. Christianity is a very broad spectrum that encompasses great goodness and great evil, whereas Timewave is about a very specific type of person. There’s also plenty under just about any other kind of veneer. An actual takedown of poor online behaviour would probally mention some of those for good measure.
