The End – Original broadcast, Remastered, Japanese, Original assembly. Tikka – Original broadcast, Xtended, Remastered, Xtended Remastered. November 18, 2024 at 4:07 pm #300161 Quinn: Clochebusters World ChampionParticipant Backwards and The Beginning (clem) This obviously isn’t the answer but both Backwards the book and The Bgeinning have Androids plugging breaches in the ships hull: November 18, 2024 at 4:27 pm #300162 WarbodogParticipant Awaiting confirmation on these two but I’m pretty confident Dave and I are right about Twonks and Tiger respectively Twonks confirmed. November 18, 2024 at 4:39 pm #300163 WarbodogParticipant Backwards and The Beginning (clem) Referencing Star Wars films, but not in ways that involve naming specific characters. November 18, 2024 at 4:46 pm #300164 WarbodogParticipant The End and Tikka to Ride (Meta) Everyone dies, then the story gets going. No, hang on, Back to Reality. November 18, 2024 at 5:01 pm #300165 Flap JackParticipant The End and Tikka to Ride(Meta) Four versions of each on the UK DVD releases? The End – Original broadcast, Remastered, Japanese, Original assembly. Tikka – Original broadcast, Xtended, Remastered, Xtended Remastered. Correct! 🌟 I initially thought it was even more broad, and those were the only 2 episodes with more than 1 alternate version, but then I realised that would also include Backwards. November 18, 2024 at 5:06 pm #300166 Quinn: Clochebusters World ChampionParticipant November 18, 2024 at 5:10 pm #300167 Flap JackParticipant I initially thought it was even more broad, and those were the only 2 episodes with more than 1 alternate version, but then I realised that would also include Backwards. Oh. And Marooned. If you were to count any version with a clear editing difference as an “alternate version” instead of just the ones that are explicitly listed/advertised as being different. In that case there’s a version of Gunmen that has the jailbait ball girl bit cut out. But I don’t think it’s on any releases. I want to say it was broadcast during Red Dwarf night. November 18, 2024 at 5:15 pm #300169 Quinn: Clochebusters World ChampionParticipant You could argue every Dave era episode is edited to remove the ad break bumpers. And that BitR and BtE have edited versions on the DVDs themselves November 18, 2024 at 5:18 pm #300170 WarbodogParticipant There’s also the shortened Japanese edits of episodes that cut bits (don’t know if it’s other countries too). I didn’t even know series VII (or at least some of it) was remastered for the DVD, or more likely read about it at the time and forgot. Ah that’s the badger So it is on a physical release, just not a DVD November 18, 2024 at 6:28 pm #300175 cwickhamParticipant Marooned and Quarantine (The answer has nothing to do with maths) November 18, 2024 at 6:34 pm #300176 Quinn: Clochebusters World ChampionParticipant Marooned and Quarantine (The answer has nothing to do with maths) I thought mentions of sprouts but apparently they’re mentioned two more times November 18, 2024 at 6:40 pm #300177 Flap JackParticipant In that case there’s a version of Gunmen that has the jailbait ball girl bit cut out. But I don’t think it’s on any releases. I want to say it was broadcast during Red Dwarf night. You could argue every Dave era episode is edited to remove the ad break bumpers. And that BitR and BtE have edited versions on the DVDs themselves Yes, but all these examples only bring their respective episodes up to 1 alternate version each, and the connection I was trying for was more than 1 alternate version. I suppose every episode has at least 1 pre-watershed broadcast edit too, but that’s either uniform (1 per episode), or the ones with multiple pre-watershed edits are hard to pin down. That’s why I’m sticking to the home media releases. There’s also the shortened Japanese edits of episodes that cut bits (don’t know if it’s other countries too). For localisations, just dubbing it would be enough to consider it an alternate version, regardless of other edits. So it’s kind of moot to consider the foreign language versions in their entirety, because obviously every episode will just uniformly get +1 version for each language. The End in Japanese is the exception because it was the only such alternate version officially released for the UK market. The edit was originally made for a repeat though, wasn’t it (but not the Red Dwarf Night one), because of Craig’s legal situation at the time? I always assumed its inclusion in 6OTB was a mistake. November 18, 2024 at 8:31 pm #300184 WarbodogParticipant Marooned and Quarantine Rimmer and Holly having a chat alone in Starbug? November 18, 2024 at 8:56 pm #300186 WarbodogParticipant Marooned and Quarantine (The answer has nothing to do with maths) The only episodes broadcast by the BBC in the decade prior to the current repeat run? Though that’s getting a bit Ludicrously Niche. November 18, 2024 at 9:29 pm #300187 cwickhamParticipant One of those guesses is in the right sort of ballpark. November 18, 2024 at 9:33 pm #300188 WarbodogParticipant One of those guesses is in the right sort of ballpark. The only ones broadcast on other BBC channels other than Two (Marooned on One, Quarantine on Four)? November 18, 2024 at 10:25 pm #300191 WarbodogParticipant Backwards and Better Than Life. Also Red Dwarf book titles. Or, cliffhangers where upon broadcast it wasn’t known whether RD would return? It’s probably not cliffhangers though, I never get these so that might be too simplistic. That’s a lot of usage of the word ‘cliffhangers’. Cliffhanger cliffhanger cliffhanger. (Done.) November 18, 2024 at 11:24 pm #300198 RudolphParticipant It involves Rimmer, or more specifically, calling him something. Some great suggestions, but Clem wins this one. The only two episodes where someone addresses Rimmer as ‘tiger’. November 19, 2024 at 5:26 am #300201 TechnopeasantParticipant I guess we now know Rimmer’s fursona. November 19, 2024 at 6:01 am #300204 DaveParticipant Backwards and Better Than Life. Also Red Dwarf book titles. Yes. I always assumed its inclusion in 6OTB was a mistake. Yep, the ’94 repeat run cut a line out of D&A (“the part of you that lusts after meaningless sex”), dropped Psirens entirely, and cut the jailbait stuff out of GotA. Yeah Psirens being left out of that run was why I read the script in Primordial Soup before I saw the episode, just like people had done before the original broadcast. I didn’t know about that line being cut from D&A though. November 19, 2024 at 12:32 pm #300211 UnrumbleParticipant November 19, 2024 at 12:37 pm #300212 DaveParticipant Clearly we need to go back and edit that shot of Lister into Justice. November 19, 2024 at 2:54 pm #300213 clemParticipant Only the Good and Back to Earth (Part One) (Ben Saunders) Rimmer talking about somebody without realising they’re right behind him. Hollister in Only the Good, Katerina in BTE1. November 19, 2024 at 3:03 pm #300214 DaveParticipant Lemons and Terrorform. November 19, 2024 at 3:19 pm #300215 Flap JackParticipant Lemons and Terrorform. Lister has spare parts left over after repairing Kryten, and there are spare parts left over after they build the rejuvenation shower. November 19, 2024 at 3:35 pm #300217 Ian SymesKeymaster And Kryten keeps Lister’s spare parts in a freezer in Lemons.
