Just taking Technopeasant’s advice to spin this game off from The Gallifrey Gals’ own thread.

    Currently unanswered connections:

    Terrorform and Skipper (by clem)

Tikka to Ride and Lemons (by International Debris)

The connection was indeed Capisce, which is of course Italian for Cappsy.

    Ongoing games:

The End and Tikka to Ride (Flap Jack) Meta

    Backwards and The Beginning (clem)

    Gunmen and Rimmerworld (Ben Saunders)

Only the Good and Back to Earth (Part One) (Ben Saunders)

Awaiting confirmation on these two but I’m pretty confident Dave and I are right about Twonks and Tiger respectively:

Back to Reality and Tikka to Ride: Xtended (Warbodog) Dialogue

Better than Life and Thanks for the Memory (Rudolph)

Four versions of each on the UK DVD releases? The End – Original broadcast, Remastered, Japanese, Original assembly. Tikka – Original broadcast, Xtended, Remastered, Xtended Remastered.

    #300161

    Backwards and The Beginning (clem)

This obviously isn’t the answer but both Backwards the book and The Bgeinning have Androids plugging breaches in the ships hull:

    Correct! 🌟

I initially thought it was even more broad, and those were the only 2 episodes with more than 1 alternate version, but then I realised that would also include Backwards.

Oh. And Marooned. If you were to count any version with a clear editing difference as an “alternate version” instead of just the ones that are explicitly listed/advertised as being different.

In that case there’s a version of Gunmen that has the jailbait ball girl bit cut out. But I don’t think it’s on any releases. I want to say it was broadcast during Red Dwarf night.
    #300169

You could argue every Dave era episode is edited to remove the ad break bumpers.

And that BitR and BtE have edited versions on the DVDs themselves

There’s also the shortened Japanese edits of episodes that cut bits (don’t know if it’s other countries too).

I didn’t even know series VII (or at least some of it) was remastered for the DVD, or more likely read about it at the time and forgot.

It was released on the Six of the Best boxset, to keep the certificate a PG.

Yes, but all these examples only bring their respective episodes up to 1 alternate version each, and the connection I was trying for was more than 1 alternate version.

I suppose every episode has at least 1 pre-watershed broadcast edit too, but that’s either uniform (1 per episode), or the ones with multiple pre-watershed edits are hard to pin down. That’s why I’m sticking to the home media releases.

There’s also the shortened Japanese edits of episodes that cut bits (don’t know if it’s other countries too).

For localisations, just dubbing it would be enough to consider it an alternate version, regardless of other edits. So it’s kind of moot to consider the foreign language versions in their entirety, because obviously every episode will just uniformly get +1 version for each language. The End in Japanese is the exception because it was the only such alternate version officially released for the UK market.

The edit was originally made for a repeat though, wasn’t it (but not the Red Dwarf Night one), because of Craig’s legal situation at the time? I always assumed its inclusion in 6OTB was a mistake.

The only episodes broadcast by the BBC in the decade prior to the current repeat run? Though that’s getting a bit Ludicrously Niche.

Gunmen of the Apocalypse and Only the Good…

Cliffhangers that either we don’t know how exactly are resolved (I can’t remember if the beginning of Tikka makes sense) or cliffhangers that kill Rimmer?

Or, cliffhangers where upon broadcast it wasn’t known whether RD would return?

It’s probably not cliffhangers though, I never get these so that might be too simplistic.

That’s a lot of usage of the word ‘cliffhangers’.  Cliffhanger cliffhanger cliffhanger.

Yep, the ’94 repeat run cut a line out of D&A (“the part of you that lusts after meaningless sex”), dropped Psirens entirely, and cut the jailbait stuff out of GotA.

Yeah Psirens being left out of that run was why I read the script in Primordial Soup before I saw the episode, just like people had done before the original broadcast. I didn’t know about that line being cut from D&A though.
