Aside from its questionable morals I don’t think its any worse than the rest of 12 although that’s probably because I think 12 is the worst run of the entire show (I’m only a fan of Siliconia).

Going through XII in order, I have to say that how well Robert plays the patience scene at the start of Mechocracy actually does a lot to palette cleanse after Timewave. A bit like the moose gag in Trojan.

This is going to prove unpopular and not unduly so, but I think Mechocracy’s worse than Timewave, if only because I think Cat’s rant at the pink cop is actually pretty funny and nothing in Mechocracy gets a laugh out of me.

For years, it was just X that had its own, which I chalked up to it being the first season of the revival. But III? What’s all that about?

Speaking of breasts and Balance of Power, its always disturbed me when Rimmer starts groping his breast after turning back from Kochanski knowing the body parts of other holograms are sentiment on their own as proven when he gets Peterson’s arm and it starts attacking him. Rimmer just committed full blown sexual assault there.

It depends. Of course, a lot of my favorite actors chew scenery and I love performances where that’s all that’s happening (Paul Darrow in Timelash is the only thing that makes that episode worth watching), but contrasting the understated performances a lot of the Red Dwarf cast showcase in the first 5 or so series and the Dave Dwarf era where there’s so much gurning and mugging puts me off.

Is that really unique to them though? Looking back at the B&W era, beyond The Tenth Planet and Tomb, they’re not much better. The Wheel in Space is arguably the worst Classic Who Cybermen story.

Craig is the best actor of the four. Danny second, Chris third and in last I’d put Robert. Chris was probably better than Danny in the original BBC run but he’s been out of practice for a while and I think that’s impacted his performance to be more scene-chewy, but that’s probably due to the material he’s been given to a similar extent.

That’s been how video games have operated for a while, though. All of them are just discs to download the game from this is just cutting out the middle man.

As for the thread, my Plex still has all the episodes and I don’t anticipate them going away soon.

With how many different interpretations there are and the fact they’ll probably going to contort it to fit the canon established by Power of the Doctor in whatever way, I don’t think a definitive one from Big Finish would be an attractive notion for them or most people. I personally prefer the VNA canon for how she left, and they’re not going to be adapting that anyway. I’m more baffled they’ve never gotten around to adapting Unusual Business to finally canonize a Mel introduction.

The Nightmare Fair twice and never made it past episode one.

I’ve been meaning to listen to Mission to Magnus if only because I want to also listen to Antidote to Oblivion and from what little I know it directly follows up on certain events in it. I’ve heard negative things about Magnus, but I’m a Philip Martin defender at least when it comes to Mindwarp and The Creed of Kromon, so maybe I’ll be contrary with that too.

I listened to all the Big Finish Lost Stories (that were released as of 10 years ago, anyway), but they didn’t give me much of an idea of what Season 27 would have been like, because they were making most of it up. The return of the Ice Warriors, now obsessed with fish fingers, and the Doctor and his new, reformed-criminal companion going undercover a lot.

It’s hard to picture what S27 would’ve been like since Cartmel was leaving at the end of S26 regardless if it got renewed or not. I haven’t listened to the Lost Stories but I assume they touch upon Ace being sent to Gallifrey which I don’t know if that would’ve actually happened or not.

If he announces anything this year it’ll probably be at the Red Dwarf convention they’re having next month, which iirc is scheduled for after Titan releases.

There’s so much great work in Big Finish with the Doctors, especially the JNT ones, with 7 I think my favorites are Colditz, Afterlife, Cold Fusion (this one has Davison in it too, adapted from the VNA), Fires of Vulcan, Live 34, and Gods and Monsters to name but a few. I don’t think I’ve ever listened to a BF story with 4 outside Light at the End which was the big 50th anniversary special with all the Classic Doctors, they’ve never interested me.

McCoy is my favorite Doctor but that’s fueled to a large degree by the VNAs and Big Finish, his Classic Who stories are hit-and-miss for me. Ghostlight and Silver Nemesis are both colossal nonsense and most of S24 is horrible or forgettable (I have a soft spot for Paradise Towers). Remembrance is spectacular though and I’ve always loved Survival.

Earthshock is not quite as engaging at 31 as it was at 11, but it’s still enjoyable. Using the fact that Adric’s star for mathematical excellence is made of gold as a weapon against the Cybermen is fantastic Chekhov’s Gun stuff, from one season and two script editors prior. I really like this Cyberman getting stuck in the door shield, and I love how it’s always been obvious that the final shot of episode 3 is just the same shot duplicated three times.

The Earthshock Cyberman design has always been my favorite. Its so charming.

Its also surely playing with fire expecting Robert Llewelyn to don the Kryten gear for that many nights without a moment for reprieve or to expect him to get his lines right first try, right? Filming a show is one thing, you can have bloopers and if need be write around his absence like they did on The Promised Land, but for a 10-12 live show tour? It doesn’t sound realistic.

If we’re talking strictly Classic Who nothing of it really frightened me, although I only saw Classic Who beginning in my late teens so I probably missed the boat on when it would’ve been able to. But including NuWho then absolutely the episode where Captain Darling got turned into an Ood.

Most Doctor Who I first saw as a teenager. Blackadder of all things scared me a little as a kid. The Black Seal in particular.

Surprisingly the same. The first series has this cruel and nasty vibe throughout it (I don’t hate it) and gave me serious whiplash compared to the carefree jokey nature of the latter three seasons I was more familiar with when I first watched it.

That reminds me how I always wish the “turning the AI companion human” thing that Kryten has happen to him in DNA happened to Holly instead. You’d lose the polaroid joke (which I never thought was super funny anyway) but I feel like you’d get a lot more material to mine out of giving Holly a body and seeing what dumb things they’d do and how the dynamic with the crew would change with having a woman onboard before changing her back.
