Sorry if I’m being ticker dan a tickets touts wad, but I’m listening to the audio book and can’t seem to work out where each ‘part’ starts and stops’ any help?

When you hear Chris suddenly speak Dutch and the chapter numbers reset that’s generally when a new part begins.

I’m happy to have Carzen as the Kryten stand-in since he’s a fun character, but Cat didn’t feel necessary. A Felis sapien Frankenstein would’ve been more interesting, maybe.

Lister’s ethnicity isn’t even mentioned in the book. I don’t think it’s mentioned in any book is it?

Titan does mention Lister has dreadlocks at the beginning of the book, so I think we can take it he’s still similar in appearance to Craig Charles. Oh I missed tombow’s post already pointing this out, whoops.

Thought that Kryten bit at the end was going to lead to at least a little bit of crew interaction before the end of the book.

I forget if it was said here or elsewhere, but it does seem that the reason the crew in Titan only interact with their future selves in indirect ways, with the quantum pen, Kryten talking through Carzen, etc., is because its a legal loophole that’s able to include them without actually including them since that might’ve been Naylor’s portion of the settlement perhaps. Although since the crew’s younger selves pre-accident seemed like they were going to be fully involved in what Naylor planned for the TV special, that might not be the case.

Judging off your reactions, am I to take it Revelation is your least favorite of 22? That’s pretty interesting since most people would call it the best and normally crap all over the rest of it.

So lister ends up with agoraphobic back story in both creators solo universes.

I thought at the end with Lister hesitant about the Garbage Pod he was going to bring up that he’s claustrophobic and that’d be another throughline with Doug Dwarf (Duct Soup).

I imagine people still wouldn’t see that as a satisfying ending, though, even with its ambiguity 

I disagree. I think Infinity’s ending is pretty beautiful in just how haunting it is. You can end an actual book there not intended for a sequel and it would work, it would be a depressing ending absolutely, but its clearcut and can function by itself. Titan’s is pretty clearly set-up for future installments there’s no question, I don’t think that really hurts the book to make it not enjoyable, but it doesn’t have as good of a potential cliffhanger where you can just end it there and it would work by itself.

To give Chris some praise though I thought his performance as Carzen was pretty good and distinguished itself well with Kryten’s cameo, I knew Carzen’s voice was slightly off from his Kryten voice in Infinity and BTL and figured maybe his impression changed with age, but his voice as Kryten was the exact same which correlated with the text specifying Carzen’s voice had gone “slightly Canadian”. So that was well done, but I think Chris has a blindspot when it comes to mimicking/voicing women.

Chris doesn’t even attempt to do a voice for Kochanski it occasionally becomes hard to tell if he’s narrating or talking as her, for her double her voice is the same throughout she has some faint accent (that sounds pretty inconsistent if I’m honest) of some kind and it doesn’t change after she adopts Kochanski’s appearance.

What is Chris’s Ingrid voice supposed to be ??? It sounds like Eric Morecambe to me!

The voice is horrific, I thought she was supposed to be an elderly haggardly woman for half the book. Only part of his performance I think does the book a major disservice, otherwise its been great.

JNT deserves far more respect than he gets, and I find it deeply stupid when people try bringing his name up as some kind of lame scapegoat defense for RTD2.

I really liked “another expedition into the realms of duplicity”, which was apparently the actor’s contribution.

Colin’s doing, he liked throwing words out like that so kids would have to find a thesaurus to decode what he had said. It’s probably why he was a fan of whenever Pip and Jane Baker were writing an episode for him.

If we’re factoring in Timeslides its very in-character for Lister. I’m fine with Rimmer in Bodyswap and don’t see any issue with it honestly, its got one of my favorite Rimmer moments in it too when he pretends he lost Lister’s arm at the end.

I mean if you’ve been watching Red Dwarf and seeing Rimmer as a kind, decent and honourable man, you’ve totally missed something.

I don’t think anybody’s questioning if Rimmer isn’t an asshole but I also don’t think its a difficult concept to grasp to have a character that regularly and reliably gives correct information openly speculating if another character hasn’t been manipulated in some way as a method of generating ambiguity behind the cause of their actions.

I just skimmed through it real quick, I also forgot when Kryten openly speculates Rimmer is acting that way because Lister “chewed on his lightbee”. So I guess its intended to be ambiguous.

I remember thinking the first time I saw Meltdown Rimmer only acted like that because Lister threw his lightbee in his mouth at the beginning and Kryten asked if his “sanity chip was screwed in” but I don’t think that was the intended implication.

I think Seville was a mandate by JNT cause he wanted another story set abroad.

Yellow Fever and How to Cure It was also going to be set in Singapore as another mandate by JNT, there’s also theories that Holmes was a eugenicist from the talk of the Androgums in The Two Doctors in some circles, I don’t know how true that is but it is worth pointing out the most racist episode of Classic Who is The Talons of Weng-Chieng and he was also going to write an episode called…Yellow Fever and How to Cure It, so its not a huge stretch.

I wouldn’t put it that high myself but I am very proud of you for putting Epideme in A tier. It is a hugely underrated episode and imo easily the best thing to come out of late 90s Dwarf.

I’m charitable to 7 than most, I think its mostly just okay.

I’ve just seen Rimmerworld in F tier.

I met Chris Barrie in a dream I had. For some reason, I thought it’d be a laugh to watch Stoke Me A Clipper with him. He couldn’t have been more bored if he tried. Five minutes from the ending, he wandered off and said I can finish it without him.

I’ve seen it a few times but not sure if its just fancasting leaking into it, is it true Chris Barrie was being considered for NuWho in place of Eccleston? I can completely see 1996, that was probably around the peak of his fame, but in 2005? Would have been a very poor choice.

I think those people genuinely just want him to play the Doctor exactly like Maurice Moss.

If we were casting anybody from The IT Crowd, Matt Berry as The Meddling Monk was a slam dunk, and it nearly happened too.

Aside from Tom Baker and Sylvester McCoy (and maybe Matt Smith), the people cast as the Doctor have normally been known names haven’t they? In the case of McCoy I think it was mainly an instance of there not being many clamoring for the role so he had better odds, although considering the state of the show now its probably one of the better chances to cast an unknown again.

It’s to accomodate the joke about the actress actually having the chest size Rimmer ordered. And it’s one of the best gags in the entire show

Isn’t the gag that Kryten crops the screen so Rimmer can’t see her breasts not the actress actually having large breasts.
