The three pre-credits scenes don’t feature the Doctor, and would have been too plot-heavy to make for an effective teaser. Alterations to the timeline give them strength, but the key factor in Father?s Day was the presence of two Doctors and Roses in the same place, and the elimination of one of those sets. This was what weakened the fabric of reality to let them through. It’s understandable that they want to maintain momentum for the show during the final month and a half of the RTD era, but putting it out between Waters and the finale seems strange, given that those two stories are supposed to be a three-parter. Given the references in the first story of the present SJAs, it might have made more sense if it had immediately followed ‘The Wedding of Sarah Jane Smith’.
