no characters like Taiwan Tony who seem to fall back on the lower brow humour akin to the abominable series VIII

This blows my mind actually given just how poorly I through of Series VIII back at the time and the fact I was only 13, I remember thinking how juvenile I found most of it to be. My opinions of it haven’t changed much outside of growing to dislike it even more which was kinda the opposite of how I feel with series VII which I’ve warmed a bit towards. However it astonish me that people were that fond of series VIII given that many fans would have been far older then I when I first saw it.

I have not defended his past actions but it does get to be a time where the things we say grows to be petty in of itself, I think 4 years later kinda crosses that line.

Way I see it, Norm has acted unprofessional and even petty but has already been taken to task over it. Unless the man says or does something else that warrants such harsh criticism then maybe it should be put to rest now. I mean it’s not like he murdered anyone so 4 years of trashing just seems a bit much to me.

my view has been kinda a mixed bag, I liked Lemons, I loved Entangled but I found Trojan, Fathers and Suns (though only because of a few minutes of weak material) and Dear Dave to be something of mixed bangs. Every episode has had moments of brilliance but by and large it seems too unfocused and doesn’t end up being nearly as good as it could be. I kinda feel as though Naylor is spreading himself too thin in terms of production to the point where the product suffers. Maybe it he wasn’t direction and was more focused on making the scrips all they could be then maybe we could have a stronger series 11……if one is indeed made.

See it’s BBCWW’s fault……told you that it was out of GNP’s hands

Well as I said, it’s most likely less to do with any decisions made on behalf of Grant Naylor Productions and more issues with distribution or licensing. Red Dwarf was pretty popular here….though I would imagine that the US might have a bigger audience due to population reasons. I guess it’s more how it reads more then what you actually said….disregard what I said.

You moan about us Australian’s getting it before the US as if we should get everything last. There could be a great number of issues as to why the US is getting it late, it could even be down do issues with distribution. If that is the case emailing Grant Naylor Productions won’t do any good because there is little that they could do about it.

Kryten at least had a reason to act insecure in series VII, his characterization in VIII was just flat out inexcusable…..I couldn’t even view him as being the same character. Then again they were all dumbed down in series VIII to they point that they were almost too stupid to be left walking around without wearing crash helmets and a life preserver.

Well with regards to Kryten in Series VII I always look it that Kochanski, this might have worked better had it been dialed down a notch and being far too annoying (particularly in Ouroboros and Duct Soup). In series VIII however Kryten became just a cleaning obsessed buffoon who’s whininess didn’t even make sense anymore.

Look I have even picked hole in episodes of the first 6 seasons, like Emohawk being nothing more then a cheap trade in on former glories. As for Taiwan Tony…..I get the joke, I don’t think it is racist but at the same time I do thing it was weak and really held the episode back……it’s a shame too because Fathers and Sun IMO had one of the best plots in Red Dwarf to date and had moments that felt iconic to me.

That’s much better and showcases how good the plot otherwise was, I would have maybe made a few different edits but otherwise I think you did a fantastic job.
