The G&T Review of the Year 2024 featured image

Ah yes, it's time for our annual opportunity to take a breather from the relentless pace of Red Dwarf news, and reflect back on the last twelve months' worth of exciting developments. Or at least it would be had there been any. Something nearly happened in the late Spring, but that was about it. Oh well, thanks for coming anyway. While you're here, we might as well look back on the things that nearly happened anyway, plus some bits that did happen but weren't deemed interesting enough for a proper news post at the time, and a reminder of the nonsense that we ourselves churned out to help fill the void. By which I mean: Welcome to the Ganymede & Titan Review of the Year 2024!

The G&T Review of the Year 2022 featured image

Hello everyone...

Much of my time at the moment is taken up with travelling all over the internet to promote The Coral Canvass, and quite frankly, I am really enjoying it. It's great to see everyone voting, and it marks our first poll where you rate each episode out of ten instead of listing them all in order. I very much look forward to seeing more votes come in over the coming month.

Away from the happy, positive world of anniversary polls, you may have noticed that, as far as the ‘Red Dwarf’ picture is concerned, the legal battle for GNP continues to bore, while our incompetent (by design) production company is as usual hellbent on suing each other instead of making new episodes. This situation looks set to continue as the Grantists now have their man in place, a person utterly and totally suited to pushing on with the new world order’s so called ‘buttski’ programme to enslave humanity under never-ending spin-offs. Look, I know many of you must be thinking ‘Blimey, G&T has lost it big time!’, but believe me, once you can see it, you can’t unsee it! All rather worrying frankly…

DwarfCast 158 - Seb Patrick's 40th featured image
Subscribe to DwarfCasts:  RSS  •  iTunes

This is a most unusual DwarfCast following a most unusual weekend for your intrepid G&T team. The three of us gathered together in the same place for this first and only time this year, and that place was Liverpool. The reason? Seb Patrick's 40th birthday, and we weren't going to let the small detail that he himself has passed on stop us from celebrating.

We wanted to share the festivities with some of the people who knew Seb, be they friends, family or just those who knew him through his work, in the Red Dwarf community and beyond. So join us for a somewhat experimental travelogue, taking in Danny's first ever football experience, a trip to a certain Liverpudlian pub, a game of pool on a very important table and our first visit to Seb's memorial bench at Crosby Beach. We promised to record a DwarfCast there if the petition was successful, and thanks to your help, it was.

The G&T Review of the Year 2021 featured image

This time last year, we were cautiously optimistic that 2021 might just be a bit better than 2020 for the world at large, but reflected on what was a bumper year for Red Dwarf content. As it transpired, it didn't feel like a particularly vintage year in the end, and in Dwarf terms it was something of annus horribilis for the small rouge one. There were however some highlights along the way, and also a hell of a lot of G&T content to hopefully provide a small distraction from the continuing downfall of humanity, and so let us take our customary look back on the last twelve months, once again sorted topic-by-topic.

We bring you news of two good causes involving two much-loved figures from Red Dwarf fandom.

Firstly, the family of our dear departed friend, former G&Ter and TOS editor Seb Patrick are campaigning to have a memorial bench installed overlooking Crosby Beach, one of Seb’s favourite places in the world. They’re prepared to foot the bill, but the council have refused, claiming that people don’t want a bench in that location. This is nonsense, as evidenced by the overwhelming support the family have received in a petition to urge Sefton Council to reconsider. We have the support of the official site (you know it’s serious when they update and it’s not a Friday), Robert Llewellyn, Danny John-Jules (this one also retweeted by Craig Charles), Doug Naylor and Norman Lovett, plus many other senior Dwarfy figures who have pledged their support by signing. This bench would not only honour the great man and provide comfort to his family, but also improve the facilities in the area. If you haven’t already, please take a few seconds to add your name to the petition, and share the ever-living fuck out of it.

And secondly, we were very sorry to hear that the brilliant artist Colin Howard has been suffering from multiple sclerosis, and now requires a powered wheelchair to help him regain his mobility and freedom. Naturally, this doesn’t come cheap, and so his wife Michelle has set up a GoFundMe to raise the ten grand cost. As well as being a regular at the last few Dimension Jumps, Colin is responsible for such iconic Red Dwarf artworks as the Beat The Geek cover, Danny’s Tongue Tied single sleeve, and many a Smegazine cover, my personal favourite being The Many Faces of Lister. Now he needs our help, so please donate if you are able to, and if you can’t help financially (which is totally fine), you can do your bit by spreading the word.

The G&T Review of the Year 2020 featured image

What a very strange year. It seems to have lasted for several millennia, but 2020 is finally over, pending any last minute shenanigans, which we can't entirely rule out. By now you'll have already read a dozen depressing round-ups cataloguing what a horrible anus it's been for the world at large, so let's focus instead on our small corner of it. The trials and tribulations of Red Dwarf may seem insignificant in comparison to the fucking atrocious circumstances we find ourselves in, but it feels more important than ever to find distractions and positives wherever we can, and it's actually been a pretty busy year for a show that's rapidly approaching its mid-thirties.

Let's go through some of the highlights, and inevitably some massive lowlights, topic-by-topic, starting with The Promised Land, which yes, really was only this year.
