IIRC, going by the set reports for Timewave it wasn’t immediately apparent to people who watched it live that it was destined to be a stinker? The worst said was that it was a bit weird. Do you think it’s the kind of thing you have to see the final edit to realise?

If I remember right there actually was an incredibly negative set report from that recording which suggested it was a debacle.

That guy was a complete bellend. He may have had some valid criticisms of the episode, but they were wrapped up in so much ill-informed nonsense that he probably just got lucky with the ones that rang true.

I did get told privately after the recording, by more than one audience attendee, that it was very dodgy, veering towards homophobia. I obviously didn’t want to report that until we’d seen the final episode.

My Grandad used to tape loads of R, J &F for us, formative part of my early childhood. I’m sure he’d have been horrified at Red Dwarf.
