I guess by default the electron wavelet is more focused and so just hits Starbug. But when they convert it into an EMP to take out the Expanoids, it covers the whole area at once, so Kryten is at risk. And we know he is, because it’s a plot point.

We know Kryten was at risk from the wavelet on account of the fact that he was shut down by the wavelet. And had to be rebooted like a car battery that ran out of juice.

It’s not the right thread for it, but it’s not explained how Kryten and the crashed Nova 5 still had power for millions of years.

And are there still food supplies after all that time, or does Kryten recycle the soup and just hold the chocolates?

Ah ha, OK, my memory of Twentica clearly isn’t so hot.

I’m personally going to chalk it up to a difference between Kryten being out of power generally, and his battery being damaged such that it can’t be recharged when it hits 0. Holly just spoke too generally, and it’s only Kryten in his current state that needed to be kept charged up in order to stay alive.

And why can’t Kryten install a better TV in his kitchen?

I find the fact that I used to watch a TV only slightly larger than that absolutely, utterly impossible to comprehend

I had a black-and-white portable as my first TV. And yes, I used to occasionally watch the snooker.

I think the idea was that Kryten already needed maintenance for a long time and so was already in a bad state when the storg begins.

Since its kinda like a film and Doug was clearly aiming for a movie like structure, personally, Id have had Kryten battle damaged after Ronan attacked them. Give iit stakes we don’t usually get on the show. BUT i guess thats not exactly funny and Doug wanted that Kryten ia acting odd lately sketch at the start.

He’s not really acting odd, though, aside from that brief moment where he randomly hides from Rimmer. They just talk about him needing a service because Foreshadowing. The rest of the time he’s just regular Kryten.

Isn’t it only brought up that he needs maintenance because he is acting odd. I haven’t watched it in a while but my i fairly sure it was implied.

You’re right, but the only real example is him forgetting about the Iron Star, which actually happened because Rimmer had him erase the memory.

I remember playing Goldeneye on one of those at university, as unlikely as that seems.
