Ian’s Newsround – 31/03/20 News Posted by Ian Symes on 31st March 2020, 20:18 The dusting off of the old "Newsround" format from G&T's earliest days is a sure sign that a new broadcast is just around the corner; indeed, there are now only nine days to go until The Promised Land airs on Dave - that's Thursday 9th April at 9pm, as if you didn't already know. I think it's fair to assume that it won't be premiering on UKTV Play a week in advance this time, as that would be the day after tomorrow, and you'd think they'd have mentioned it by now if that was the case. An eminently sensible decision given the one-off nature of this outing, and with linear television audiences being boosted by the current situation, one that could lead to great results. There's certainly no shortage of press and social media coverage, as we'll dive into now... Read more →
Ian’s Newsround – 13/09/17 News Posted by Ian Symes on 13th September 2017, 21:45 You know you're getting close to a new series when there's enough news happening that we need to dust off this old format. Here's a handy round-up of everything that's happened since our last news update on Friday lunchtime, in order of how-much-we-have-to-say-on-the-topic. WHAT IS WRONG WITH THE WOMAN, SHE'S SFX MAD - Today saw the latest issue of SFX hit the newsstands, featuring on its cover a photograph of four really familiar-looking men. It was never going to be as prolific as last year's coverage, so there's no little booklet this time round, but there is an eight page feature on the show with contributions from all four cast members and both Naylors. The bulk is taken up by the cast answering fans' questions, most of which will be familiar to convention-goers, and are more often about the show's past instead of the upcoming series. The only new information of note comes in this answer to a question about whether they'd like to see the Cat people return: Read more →
Constant, guilt-free SFX Quickies Posted by Ian Symes on 14th September 2016, 18:57 As you're probably already aware, Red Dwarf features in this month's SFX magazine in a pretty big way. Not only is there a big feature on the forthcoming series, there are four variant covers - each featuring a shot of one of the main characters - and a free mini-booklet celebrating the show's history. After traipsing round every magazine vendor in West London in an attempt to collect all four, I accepted defeat and actually read the magazine instead. I was surprised to discover several previously-unseen pictures from forthcoming episodes, many of which give intriguing clues as to the content of the series. I tweeted my discoveries as I went, and those tweets are collated here. You won't find reproductions of the magazine or any of its contents - you'll have to actually go into a shop and pay money for that - but there is plenty of description and analysis... Read more →
High & Low: Special Effects Features Posted by John Hoare on 31st August 2014, 03:18 Of all the difficult tasks I have faced whilst writing Ganymede & Titan, this has to be one of the most difficultistestist. Even more difficult than writing an article which doesn’t manage to be spectacularly rude about somebody for very little reason. How the bloody hell do you manage to boil down the quite staggering amount of amazing special effects work for Red Dwarf into one easy-to-digest Top 10 list? Answer: with a lot of kicking, screaming, self-doubt as to the worth of my entire life, and general dissatisfaction. Hopefully that’s sold this article as something well worth reading. Let’s get on with it, shall we? Read more →
“It was like The Who reforming, only nobody died” News Posted by Jonathan Capps on 16th September 2012, 00:53 SFX’s relationship with Red Dwarf has been up and down over the years, but in recent years they’ve been treating the show very well, devoting a good amount of space to preview Back To Earth (not to mention the special cover created for the show). The November edition (November? You stupid fuckers) carries a substantial four page interview with Chris, Craig and Robert and it’s really very pleasant indeed. Edited highlights follow, but I also encourage you to buy the mag when it’s released on Wednesday, if for no other reason than to keep SFX’s lawyers off my substantial arse. Continue reading →
I like it when they put someone’s head over the bottom of the “F” so it looks like the magazine is called SEX News Posted by Seb Patrick on 6th March 2009, 13:59 Proving once again that G&T is THE PLACE TO BE for all your EXCLUSIVE RED DWARF NEWS AND SCOOPS, one Si Bromley of this parish has reported in on a massive double-page Back to Earth feature in the upcoming April issue of SFX magazine that contains some particularly interesting quotes from Doug...
