Loved it! This is instantly the Alan I like. The play between Alan and Tim Key is perfect and I’m looking forward to seeing where it goes.

It’s frightening how Steve can just become Alan like that! This setup makes me more aware of it for some reason.

So do I. No, honestly, I do.

Btw I’m struggling to fathom why this has only just been mentioned on here. Even if they’re not posting quite a few people do look here, if only briefly… It only takes a minute (girl) to post.

Seeing as the fundamental laws of physics, as they stand right now, show that travelling back in time is impossible, it’s unlikely that this woman/man is from the future…

However, if they were, they could be using a radio of some kind, communicating with their time-travelling craft orbiting the Earth. It couldn’t be a normal cellphone because there were obviously no networks then, no masts.

Of course, it’s just a hearing aid. They did look like cellphones in those days.

Though we now know the Doctor can officially, canonically become black, thanks to Clyde (courtesy of RTD…) asking him! Clyde saying ‘my hand’s…not white’ made me laugh too.

I like how RTD did more for Who canon in two 25 minute CBBC episodes than Moffat did in the whole of series 5! The Ian and Barbara line gave me chills… If they ever wanted a replacement for SJA they have it right there with those two, or maybe even Jo, who it was great to see. And Matt…for a split second he seemed to channel Pertwee in the scene with Jo, I’m not sure exactly what he did or whether I was just thinking of The Green Death.

Er, The Hobbit and stuff… Oh, it’s definitely being shot in New Zealand!! Fiiiinally they can get the heck on with it. Richard Armitage will make a fine Thorin IMO despite not being an obvious candidate for the Dwarf leader. He has a certain ‘heavy’ nature to his voice that will lend itself to rousing the Dwarves in battle. Seeing 13 Dwarves kick orc ass is going to be something to behold!

I’m sure they’ll be able to shoot at least one episode of Sherlock before Martin starts on The Hobbit in February. Then it’s a case of finding time to complete the series. I’m sure it’ll work out.

Why, because it really works?? I’m not sure how effective it will be for the show, with it being on Radio 4 and all…

Oh the questions this clip brings to mind… Did anyone in the audience know who Danny or the Cat was (surely this must be from around the broadcast of series 2)? Was Danny chosen to accept Patrick Swayze’s award because he was a dancer? Could it be any more worrying how excited I am over the fact that he’s wearing that series spacesuit??

Just looking at it now Armando actually apologized in a pretty sarcastic way to people who didn’t like the laughter. I must have read that at some point and taken it seriously.

It did seem to be an issue at the time, as though people had watched a couple of episodes of The Office or the League series 3 (which I think aired right after Partridge series 2, if I remember) and suddenly forgot that countless sitcoms that came before had audience laughter.

Hmmmm. Surely the only comedy that matters was shooting this week, according to Armando Iannucci.

Armando’s involvement really does seal the deal for me. Promisingly, he says they’re ‘typical Alan episodes’ with no mentions of Foster’s within. I don’t mind if it’s just Alan doing a radio show (something new, we can presume, not Radio Norwich) as those segments were always funny, as was, obviously, the Knowing Me, Knowing You radio series.

I bet there’s no laughter track… It still riles me that they ‘apologised’ for it’s use on IAP series 2. If anything suited laughter it was IAP series 2! Just imagine the Bond scenes without it or – ‘don’t put your foot on there’ ‘I’m not, I’m just doing a cockney walk!’ – without an audience laugh. It NEEDS the laughter.

As far as I can see the only mistake anyone above made is replying in their often-employed condescending tones and counter-attacking rather than simply apologizing for their blissful ignorance of a fellow poster’s situation. A simple ‘I’m sorry, if I caused any offence it wasn’t meant…’ etc. could have worked wonders.

    > Well, I’m now scared of posting in case I offend someone because of something I wasn’t previously aware of, but which I’ll be held responsible for.

Same here. I mean, I might, for a variety of reasons, decide to make a derogatory statement about tambourines, subsequently offending someone who posts here who may have been married to someone with a tambourine-shaped head in a previous life who died a horrible death involving a pair of clackers and a riled bucket of foaming piss. You just don’t know.

Or I could type the words ‘lock this thread, please, as it now has very little to do with the original post’ and chance some little chancer getting on my back, shouting something oh so clever in my ear about reason whilst simultaneously toe-fucking their own fanny, practically demonstrating the massive self-love they can’t seem to shake off even for a second before opening that silly, silly mouth of theirs.

In other news, just watched the Doctor Who Proms on iplayer and a) Karen Gillan is exceptionally lovely and I just want to run my hands through her gorrrrgeous blazing red hair (it’s red, don’t you know), b) is it me or did Matt just deliver one of his best ever performances as the Doctor? The bit on the steps with the kid, I’m just in awe of the guy! Not many other actors could have pulled off that little skit in front of the brightly lit packed audience like that.

We all have dreams. Some of us are lucky enough to be in a situation where we can attempt to fulfil them, and whether we garner any success from that chase is a bonus. Some of us aren’t.

    > and yeah I guess there are some bums out there with far too much free time as well!

I have no kids, not many responsibilities, that equals plenty of opportunity to write. On one hand you could consider that lucky but it’s a curse as well as a blessing because if I actually did have a family to provide for, or desperately needed something to get me out of the shit, that would give me more incentive, put more fire in my belly, even if I was left with a lot less time to physically write. At the moment it still feels like a hobby and I sometimes feel guilty for not clutching it with both hands as tightly as I can. I should just get myself sacked from work. Yep, that’s the solution right there…

So, yeah, all those shots were stills. Wow. :P

I don’t think it’s Julian Bleach as Davros, you can hear it clearly enough to tell that. Also, this is obviously much more of a mystery than everything being down to Davros. As much as I want to see Bleach back in that role at some stage in the next few years it would be very boring if Davros was behind the ‘silence’.

It is pretty good, particulary the Michael Gambon shot, wherever that’s from.

Also, ‘silence will fall’…still don’t know who the heck they got to say that line. People are saying Ian McDiarmid simply because it’s aping his delivery as the Emperor somewhat, but it’s not forced to be him, and if it was would Moffat have him doing that voice?

I saw Steve’s show in Blackburn and while plenty of it was dodgy (he had to have cue cards in front of him for a lot of it, and the material for the non-Partridge characters was either just rehashed or weak) we were still crying laughing during the Alan segment. The character still has tons of mileage as far as I can see.

There’s definitely two different Alans though, the one with Armando’s voice and the one without. Even though Steve is always great as the character I definitely prefer the Coogan/Ianucci/Baynham-written Partridge. That’s the real deal. I remember ages ago Armando said he was storylining the Partridge film, which should be enough to get anyone excited! Of course, it doesn’t look like they’re making it any time soon but we can live in hope…

As for the upcoming Coogan/Brydon series, ‘The Trip’, I thought this was gonna be a straight doc series – the brother of someone I work with was involved with it (he’s a chef at one of the pubs they used) and it was played in that way. It turns out it’s more like a Curb-style improvisation setup directed by Michael Winterbottom. Can’t wait to see the outcome!

Darn it, Pete, you had to get in there first… (methinks th’Ellard had Seinfeld on his mind) and Seb, how dare you bring a Bill & Ted reference into this!! *stamps foot*

Btw Andrew, just because BTTF’s screenplay was Oscar-nommed doesn’t make it right!

Okay…the original ending obviously works really well in terms of viewing it as a pure entertainment piece (if it doesn’t give you that warm fuzzy feeling you are cold, so very cold), which, duh, BTTF is meant to be. If you went with my ending (which btw I’ve just emailed to the two Bobs to get their feedback), or one similar, you definitely would have to change how George and Lorraine are at the start, as well as the way Marty views them, both in the present and the past. You would end up converting the whole thing into an afternoon family drama more concerned with ‘daddy issues’ payoffs than the sheer fun of BTTF’s story and setup. Suddenly it all becomes less entertaining, less interesting, more shit…*sigh*

‘I figured…what the hell!’ is my favourite moment. It sums up the whole screenplay, if you think about it. You can poke holes in it left right and centre but what the two Zemeckis and Gale blatantly understood (and you can tell it’s where loads of writers go wrong) is that they were not writing Shakespeare, they were having a lot of fun with clever ideas. RTD is also pretty good at this, even though he gets the shit ripped out of him for even daring to write with that attitude.

Well you can’t have Marty’s jaunt in the past having no effect at all. I just think it would be better if it was more subtle. George and Lorraine would act exactly the same as at the start of the film. Maybe it could be played that George always had written the book even without Marty’s involvement in the past.

Finally watched episode 3 properly after having the original viewing messed up by realll life, whatever that is…

Loved it the most out of the three eps though I agree with many who’ve said how mad the very end was. I didn’t mind the performance of Moriarty (or the twist of him being the ‘gay’ guy, Gatiss having some fun there lol) but coming back into the room to supposedly finish them off with god knows how many rifles pointing at them…odd to say the least.

Okay maybe there IS one flaw – how perfect Marty’s family is at the end. It’s not a huge gripe but even after all that happens it still feels like Marty has it all handed to him, it’s almost like cheating, not earned.

My alternative version would be…Marty returns and everything is exactly the same as it was. However, he opens the garage door and, to his amazement, the 4×4 is sitting there. George then appears and says that he was hoping it was gonna be a surprise. Marty asks how he could afford the car and George goes to a box in the garage and pulls out the sci-fi novel, it pans down to reveal the name ‘George McFly’. George then says ‘a good friend of mine once told me, if you put your mind to it you can accomplish anything…’
