Apologies for bringing Godwin’s Law into things, but are we counting Hitler?

    Epideme is brills, though.

I am truly baffled by this take.

It’s a top 10 episode for me! Maybe even top 5 but that’d probably be my contrarian mode going into overdrive.

I get why people find the voice irritating though I never did, but around that you have some really good jokes, some genuine peril and consequence and everything doesn’t just reset at the end. Plus I thought there was some good character building stuff around Kochanski, the dynamic she has within the crew just works in this one.

I think it’s good. But then I like dramady Dwarf. Gets lost in the middle a bit but I really like the premise.

Do we think that they will ever resolve the Kochanski plot thread set up in Back to Earth?

It’s weird because I’ve always felt that Chloe has earned the closure and I hope it happens but I also sort of don’t really want to see it and I imagine, if they do bring her back, she will be written off for good by the end.

I realised today that Gallifrey Gals’ Red Dwarf reactions are the nearest thing I have to “appointment telly”, as I’m always waiting impatiently for them to drop come Wednesday evening.

GG’s comments threads are also full of 8 apologists, TBF. I’ve seen more than one claim it’s the best series!

I definitely liked 8 more at the time of airing, though I was only about 16. I could always tell the vibe was different though.

So, uh, has anybody watched any of GGs’ other series? Worth it or does the novelty drop when they’re not doing RD?

    What is the “novelty”?

There’s also two of them. I can enjoy single-person reaction videos fine but it’s fun to hear thoughts and ideas bounced around off two people and some of the pre-show nattering.

Another American reactor I like is King Boomer, he’s done lots of classic British comedy and I think he’s reacted to a clip or two from RD but it’d be fun if he did the whole show.

I think this is possibly the only forum on the internet where the idea of a thread entirely dedicated to discussing two female YouTubers doesn’t fill me with dread so there’s that.

Royal Mail nearly lost it, thought Ian may have intercepted to prevent the spreading of spoilers for a second.

Interesting that the Gals think Kochanski will leave at the end of the series. I mean, they’re only one series out before that does happen but still.

Bless the Gals for making predictions as if any of this is going to be resolved in any way.

Now I’m not going to act like it’s definitive – “a few weeks” could mean anything, it could be literal or it could be a facetious way about talk about a long time, plus not everybody always tells the truth in dreams, but it does put something of a slight crimp on any Eighteen Months Later explanations that fall between Ouroboros and Blue.

And bless us for trying to figure out this show’s continuity as if it has any…

It’s interesting in terms of just being something they didn’t do but Kochanski isn’t really presented as being vain or anything in the same way that Cat is so it wouldn’t make sense for him to see her as a rival and it does make sense for him to want to impress her.

I wonder if Kochanski’s crew also had an altercation with their future selves that resulted in absurd “dimensional anomalies”, or if in that scene she’s secretly thinking “Uterine simulator… ? It’s a shuttlecraft???”.

Kochanski’s crew were still on Red Dwarf rather than stranded in Starbug, according to unused effects shots:

We don’t know if our Starbug has a synthetic womb aboard that they used, but let’s face it, it does.

I always took Kochanski’s surprise that they’re on Starbug when she wakes up as an indication she came from Red Dwarf.

Let’s not even get into the fact that that “Eighteen Months Later” caption is over a scene that takes place three million years before. Make that make sense.

They did explicitly say they love reading all the trivia that people post in that new episode, for what it’s worth.

    Is that Paul Whitehouse?

From Harry Enfield and Chums (or one of those shows), I’d guess. The other bloke is Enfield.

There is usually some trivia thrown about but I don’t really watch enough to say if it’s more or less than average.

Some of it does remind me of #DwarfFacts….

They didn’t really say if they liked it or not but I think they did? Laughed plenty throughout.

Unfortunately their comments about what they like and dislike about Kochanski’s portrayal doesn’t bode well for series 8….

The series 7 streak is broken but I do wonder if they’d have enjoyed this just a little more had they watched the version with a laugh track rather than Xtended.

I’ve always preferred series 2 to be honest, but then I saw that first, which is often how that goes with your preferred iteration of a thing.

Some wildly incorrect stuff gets said in their comment sections. Just seen a bloke saying the reason 7 is hated is because it was originally aired without any laughter track and that failed so badly it was dubbed in for all subsequent releases… unless this is my Mandela Effect, it most definitely was aired with the laughter track, right?!

I honestly would struggle to pick a top 3, in seriousness, I think it’s more that I have a top however-many that are always in positional rotation.

I think they’re going to like Kochanski’s addition. I also think they’re going to hate the casual (and at times not so casual) sexism in 8.

I’ve really enjoyed their reactions, it’s worth going back if you’re so inclined. I remember they were very impressed by how progressive Parallel Universe was in its commentary on gender dynamics, for the time period.

Series 8, he’s standing by that big door the dino indented. Think this image was on the back of a BTL or something, I remember seeing it A4 sized.

There’s also the added element of old man Lister from ‘Future Echoes’ having a robot arm, which potentially plays into our Lister losing his. Hopefully the gals will pick up on that as they saw it so comparatively recently.

Gallifrey Gals have started series 7 and they liked Tikka To Ride a LOT. Even talk of it being in their top 3 episodes so far. I think they’re going to like a lot of this series and, as a series 7 apologist, this makes me very happy!

Just a thought…. does the existence of space weevils negate the idea that no alien life exists in the RDU? Presumably the fact they’re called “space weevils” imply they are not from Earth? 🤨

My pedantic nitpick with WILTY is that “This is my” is called “This is my” even though the contestants don’t say “This is my”, they say “This is [name]”. It should be called “Who am I?” or something like that.
