    > Is there *any* way we can blame Iain Lee for all this?

I meant to ask you guys – did he really provide your site ‘recommendation’? ;-)

    > As far as I can see the only mistake anyone above made is replying in their often-employed condescending tones and counter-attacking rather than simply apologizing for their blissful ignorance of a fellow poster’s situation. A simple ‘I’m sorry, if I caused any offence it wasn’t meant…’ etc. could have worked wonders.

Another nail hit on the head for me. Thank you Danodin.

    > I don’t think anyone sees this as boring. It is, after all, probably the most exciting thing that’s happened around here since BtE…:P

Did you not see the pics of Karen Gillan with Mr Flibble? ^__^

    > For all I know, Hummingbird may well have three kids and two jobs and find the comment a little hurtful, as in “where’s your talent then?”. I’m sure no deliberate offence was meant – whatever the circumstances – and far too much forum space has been devoted to this non-story already, surely?

Now let’s just kick back, relax, and all enjoy the prostitutes.

…and Carl hits the nail on the head. Thank you. Even the comment about the prostitutes.

Tanya – if you feel this doesn’t help you to comprehend (and by that I don’t mean ‘agree’ – we’re allowed to disagree) my point then by all means, please contact me personally. As I intimated before, I really don’t want to bore people on here any more with the conversation. Thanks.

    > Well, personally I think you’re bang out of order. And don’t play innocent with me. You know what you did.

Pete, oh my gosh, the others have only just told me in a PM! Here’s me trying to offer you cake and I didn’t realise your school friend, little Jimmy, died all those years ago in that horrible bakery accident! :-( I can only humbly apologise for my disgusting lack of restraint and hope I have not inadvertently offended you too greatly by my references to battenberg.

    > If only to see the lovely Karen who is lovely and I feel completely platonic about. *nods*

    > Well, I’m now scared of posting in case I offend someone because of something I wasn’t previously aware of, but which I’ll be held responsible for.

I’m not sure why you feel you are ‘scared’ of posting, but hey, that’s your perogative. Like I said, it’s always going to happen, you can never know everything about everyone else. As long as one tries to be courteous and considerate of other people’s feelings then that’s the best we human beings can do, right? I’ve been in the same situation on forums before, where I’ve inadvertently offended someone – but you apologise and move on. That’s life.

    ….aaaand I’m done with this. ^__^

Good point Carl (and where have you been? Seems like we haven’t chatted for ages. Hope you’re doing well) but I would have to maintain that in my opnion it’s a balance of the time and resources available to you versus the hard slog regardless. You guys put a lot of time and effort into RDA, as did I (relatively speaking ;-D). And I do feel it’s unfortunate that Real Life got in the way and it had to fall by the wayside because of other things. T’was hard work and great fun.

    > No, really, you’re going to have to help me out as well. How can anyone avoid offending someone in the future if they won’t say what’s wrong?

It’s always going to happen – people will take things in jest which others can’t, and will in turn get personally affronted by. That’s just life, so unfortunately sometimes these things cannot be avoided.

I don’t really want to state overtly on here so publicly. After all, I was coming to the defence of someone else who had been hurt by it so it’s not my place (and no, I haven’t met them in Real Life, but I do listen) – but perhaps it’s best to bear in mind that people have their own lives and issues to deal with in the scariness that is the Real World. Sadly not everyone has the time, opportunity or financial freedom to realise their talents. But those people who give it a bloody good go, despite their personal situation, have my utmost respect.

Plus? This is a nice place and I don’t like people being upset. I make them feel better with cake. ^__^

    > Or perhaps you should write your comments more carefully and not attack so personally?

I’m afraid Andrew, you’re already guilty of this yourself. I read part of your original reply to Hummingbird and actually winced. To say a certain something to a certain person is actually very rude – and if you haven’t picked up on what it is, perhaps you should pay attention a bit more.

    > I’m always envious of someone who has so much time on their hands.

    > I’m envious of talent.

I definitely think it’s a combination of both. A talent takes time to nurture, improve upon and develop. You’re never going to become wonderful at something overnight.

I thought the first couple were a little ropey but then it’s definitely gone back to its old glory days – the odd moment even feels like the first series, with its very dry witty humour. This episode for me was less good though. And the FryasZoidburg/LeelaastheProfessor action was ARGHHHH! Wasn’t it billed as the scariest sex scene ever? hehehe

    > maybe the lads and Naylor have sent another movie script off to a few studios again?

Highly unlikely. I’d have thought after spending ten years unsuccessfully pushing for a movie, Naylor et al are persuing the seemingly successful route of accepting Dave’s help in its revival. Will be exciting when we hear a bit more news on the new series…

Yeah I kinda took it as a joke – perhaps Craig couldn’t make their meet up so they boys were taking the piss? And they know that an RD meet would have the fans getting far too excited…with Danny jokingly ‘revealing the Full Monty’ on the new series? Would seem odd only a month after Craig got ‘approached for the new series’ to recast… ^__^

    > The opening 5-10 minutes of Up, for example, so beautiful and poignant, and most of it a montage without dialogue.

I saw Up on the plane to New York when it first came out so a lot of the passengers were watching it. That opening montage really got me and the husband – and there were plenty of sniffles to be heard on the plane during those early scenes!

    > The bit where they all held hands…awww, fuck.

There was no dialogue for a really disconcerting amount of time, especially for an animated film – very powerful.

And the moment when Andy finally lets go. WAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!

    *SPOILERS*

I thought it was clever that we’d already met Moriaty earlier in the episode but didn’t suspect him. Gives you the chills.

However, the ending I felt to be a little odd. To see Moriaty walking away to continue to tease him with more crimes to solve (a more plausible ending IMO) only to find it suddenly cut short with a ‘oh wait actually, let’s just kill you both here and now’ ending instead. Husband and I were left blinking at one another when the credits came up. It was like the writer couldn’t decide which ending he wanted SO HE DID BOTH.

Did anyone else find the guy’s performance as Moriaty was just like The Master? Very odd.

That aside, if this trio is a testing of the waters, I’d say the BBC are onto a winner.

    > Part two wasn’t as good, but I’m still stoked for part three just because the concept seems to work so well. I’m a fan of the stories and didn’t think I’d like it much at all. I was wrong! They’ve done the character justice.

Well I loved it, thought it was very good. Some of the shots and cinematography were so beautiful, it was like a book opening up in front of you. I like the stylisation of it too, makes it a bit quirky and different.

May have been me, but I think Moffat sometimes wrote Sherlock like the new Doctor….I got these strange moments of deja vu whilst watching it…

Setting Sherlock Holmes in the present day is a clever move but a potentially risky one – after all, back then, there was no DNA profiling or CCTV (something which I feel was a little side-stepped in the episode) but hey – all in the name of a good laugh.

Overall I absolutely loved it – I hope that the three-parter is a ‘testing the waters’ for a full-on series!
