Which frankly is unusual for a change election. July 6, 2024 at 2:17 am in reply to: Do you think Dwarf had a realistic chance of getting bigger/more mainstream? #296390 TechnopeasantParticipant Slightly ashamed to admit I didn’t realise that Endeavour had the same format as Sherlock (feature length episodes, only a few episodes per series) until looking it up just now. That gives extra reason to compare them, even if Endeavour had more series in total and released them more frequently. In fairness, is that not the case for most British mystery series? Hell, even some American ones like Columbo. July 6, 2024 at 2:14 am in reply to: Your Red Dwarf Memes for Safe and Courteous Disposal Out the Nearest Airlock #296389 TechnopeasantParticipant If you’d waited 45mins you could have added Truss in there too In the Alberta provincial election last year the main consolation was seeing the opposition NDP take out a number of United Conservative cabinet ministers, including both pandemic era health ministers and the ringleader of an anti-lockdown petition. Little did I realize it would be less in terms of votes than 2019, and within a polling margin of error of it percentage wise… and of course the difference is I doubt Corbyn is unhappy Labour won last night, unlike what Starmer himself says of last time… July 6, 2024 at 1:31 am in reply to: __\\\ G&T General Erection Thread ///__ #296385 TechnopeasantParticipant The size of the majority means Labour are almost guaranteed two terms, assuming they couldn’t possibly do a worse job than the last govt if they tried. If I recall correctly they said the same thing about the Conservative majority last time, so it might be wishful thinking to expect that kind of predictability. July 5, 2024 at 3:44 am in reply to: __\\\ G&T General Erection Thread ///__ #296338 TechnopeasantParticipant Corbyn wasn’t robbed (this time). July 5, 2024 at 2:10 am in reply to: The Gallifrey Gals’ own thread #296333 TechnopeasantParticipant I’m now reminded of the ‘young’ Picard and Riker in Star Trek: Picard and it’s making me feel weird. July 5, 2024 at 2:02 am in reply to: The Gallifrey Gals’ own thread #296332 TechnopeasantParticipant Also, a hologram chef might be useful. If they’re like head chef and can create dish and run a kitchen have have everyone else do the actual work. I highly doubt Petersen was head chef though. Unless he did in fact have hidden depths we did not know about. Oh, and Star Trek something, something… July 1, 2024 at 7:33 pm in reply to: The Gallifrey Gals’ own thread #296234 TechnopeasantParticipant Just a thought – maybe we’re getting a little off the intended topic of the Gallifrey Gals and this whole discussion about when we last see who in what form and when counts as what should possibly be spun off into its own thread? Y’know, just thinking out loud. The who’s who when’s own thread? July 1, 2024 at 7:29 pm in reply to: The Gallifrey Gals’ own thread #296233 TechnopeasantParticipant “Died? Do you think he’d write and tell you?” would work a lot better in a show where people coming back as holograms after dying wasn’t a major part of the premise. Not entirely sure how useful a hologram of a catering officer would be though. I imagine if you are a manual labourer you are pretty well screwed. I am sure this has been brought up, but did the nanobots resurrect George McIntyre? July 1, 2024 at 7:25 pm in reply to: The Gallifrey Gals’ own thread #296232 TechnopeasantParticipant My biggest problem with the gag is the same as all the VIII bunk room jokes: Lister is written as a Dougal-level idiot for some reason. Only a series ago he was comfortably explaining time paradoxes so complex they blew up cameras, and now he’s struggling to do a dot-to-dot. I generally agree, but in this instance it seems more like a classic absent minded forgetting the obvious for a second. I think we have all had moments like that. Now perhaps one could quibble about why Lister is seemingly nonchalant at the thought of Petersen being dead, but in fairness he was literally dead only a couple months ago… So we all agree it’s a pity we never got a proper No Strings Attached then? June 30, 2024 at 7:23 pm in reply to: The Gallifrey Gals’ own thread #296205 TechnopeasantParticipant This went about as expected, though they’re enjoying the jokes more than I’d have guessed. Yeah I thought it was very even-handed, probably a little bit fairer to the episode than it deserves. On a first watch, the gags at the start probably do seem a little funnier and more innocent when you don’t know what’s to come later, it’s all the shower stuff that really taints the whole episode with unpleasantness. None of it the shower stuff, but a lot of the first five minutes of Krytie TV is genuinely my favorite bits of VIII. Especially… But given Krytie TV has been either my worst or second worst episode in the least three G&T polls… June 22, 2024 at 12:38 am in reply to: Red Dwarf lines that sound like they’re from something else #295988 TechnopeasantParticipant Where was that line from? Kinda hypocritical to judge the Cat then. June 8, 2024 at 11:18 pm in reply to: The Classic Doctor Who Thread – Spoilers? #295721 TechnopeasantParticipant William Russell has died at age 99, literally weeks after I finished my Season 2 Bluray set. Hopefully they recorded stuff for a Season 1 set, even if that shit with An Unearthly Child probally prevents it for the forseeable (and what to do with Marco Pollo…). I am hoping they do a Season 6 set since all they need is to fix up The Space Pirates, unlike the rest of Troughton’s seasons. June 8, 2024 at 11:16 pm in reply to: Unanswered Questions #295720 TechnopeasantParticipant If you can fit sentient AI in a wristwatch or light bee it definitely makes it odd they can only run one hologram. June 7, 2024 at 1:06 am in reply to: Unanswered Questions #295683 TechnopeasantParticipant It is also how it works during the Marooned adaptation in Better Than Life, with Rimmer reappearing back on Red Dwarf after the power down. One idea that occurred to me is that Rimmer is supposed to be an exact simulation of a human being, so if he encounters hallucinogenic ink, the simulation will damn well make him hallucinate. Which yes implies he can still get high from inhaling. I mean, if he can smell camphor and Lister’s moon boots then… On a related note, we can be sure that Holly isn’t localized on Starbug given she vanishes in Demons & Angels and for good in VI. June 6, 2024 at 12:29 am in reply to: Starbug’s INVISIBILITY CLOAK #295650 TechnopeasantParticipant They had to disable the cloak in order to prevent war with the Romulans. June 6, 2024 at 12:22 am in reply to: Unanswered Questions #295649 TechnopeasantParticipant I mean, presumably most of Holly’s actual programming is still on Red Dwarf whilst (most of) Rimmer is on Starbug? That, or the screen was foggy. In Backwards Ace notes that Rimmer could operate a forklift with just his light bee if he rammed it into the controls, but as for steering… May 31, 2024 at 3:40 am in reply to: Mundane observation dome #295486 TechnopeasantParticipant May 31, 2024 at 3:19 am in reply to: The Gallifrey Gals’ own thread #295485 TechnopeasantParticipant The absence of a second Kochanski isn’t such a big plot hole in the grand scheme of things. May 31, 2024 at 3:15 am in reply to: The Gallifrey Gals’ own thread #295484 TechnopeasantParticipant Have you seen the trailer now, though?! I honestly like it more than the series itself. Well at least it’s shorter. I mean, it only contains half the overexplanation of brown alert. May 30, 2024 at 2:12 am in reply to: The Gallifrey Gals’ own thread #295456 TechnopeasantParticipant May 28, 2024 at 11:56 pm in reply to: The Classic Doctor Who Thread – Spoilers? #295441 TechnopeasantParticipant I am surprised how little people bring up how bloody horrid the TARDIS crew are when they first encounter Vicki in “The Rescue”. They literally show up randomly, shoot her dog, and then gaslight her for being upset about it.
