December 10, 2009 at 2:16 am in reply to: The official The End of Time thread (will contain pre-broadcast spoilers/speculation and post-broadcast spoilers) #106915 JamesTCParticipant >A list of guest stars is not a plot summary. It was for alot of ‘Journeys End’. Plus the cast list with so many past names means it will be continuity heavy. December 10, 2009 at 12:32 am in reply to: The official The End of Time thread (will contain pre-broadcast spoilers/speculation and post-broadcast spoilers) #106912 JamesTCParticipant Oh, did anyone watch ‘Dreamland’, the first clips didn’t look to good, the animation seemed to be trying something that it couldn’t reach but once you get a couple of minutes in you just don’t think about it, it was actually really very good, certainly better than ‘The Infinite Quest’, I will be picking up the DVD in February. December 10, 2009 at 12:16 am in reply to: The official The End of Time thread (will contain pre-broadcast spoilers/speculation and post-broadcast spoilers) #106911 JamesTCParticipant > as long as it doesn?t reach Journey?s End levels. And I REALLY hope it doesn?t. Russel Tovay, Billie Piper, John Barrowman, Judoon, Ood, Time Lords, Camille Coduri, Jessica Hynes, Tommy Knight, Elisabeth Sladen and of course John Simm. Harriet Jones was rumoured but who knows, she isn’t on any official cast lists so I guess she is dead. December 10, 2009 at 12:08 am in reply to: The official The End of Time thread (will contain pre-broadcast spoilers/speculation and post-broadcast spoilers) #106909 JamesTCParticipant >>And seriously, fuck ?Partners in Crime? until it dies. >THAT?S the worst ep of New Who there?s been! It is cute, funny and has a crap main villain but some cute ickle aliens (who are unintentionally the bad guy). It is by no means a classic but it was entertaining tele. RTD knows how to write the opener, atleast how I think they should be, just light hearted romps, ‘Smith and Jones’ is in the same style. One cringe worthy scene (which is down to effects) is the bit with Donna and the Doctor waving to Wilf from the TARDIS, I never knew the TARDIS had the power to turn 2D. December 10, 2009 at 12:03 am in reply to: The official The End of Time thread (will contain pre-broadcast spoilers/speculation and post-broadcast spoilers) #106908 JamesTCParticipant If you are chucking episodes because they are shit I wouldn’t include alot of them. ‘Gollum goes the Curcus’ and ‘Hoover of the Daleks’ would be the first to go for me. I included stories to make the viewer understand the later stories better and in the end ‘The End of Time’, remember they have all of time to watch every story but if they’d rather watch ‘The End of Time’ when it airs with a better understanding then it is best to watch continuity heavy stories (not in an ‘Attack of the Cybermen’ way). Dropping ‘The Runaway Bride’ and ‘Partners in Crime’ would be just stupid, drop one but not both, missing out such an important companions opening story as well as the Wilf stuff in ‘Partners in Crime’ would make it a little harder to understand when just explained. As an aside I liked both of those stories, crap villain both stories but Tate more than made up for it. I do think all the Cybusmen stories are utter rubbish (‘The Next Doctor’ was great but the Cybusmen were the low point, the Lake stuff was one of the best new series tales) and I would drop ’em if it were a measure of quality but it isn’t, regardless of quality they have a big part in Series 2 and directly link to Series 4. December 9, 2009 at 9:18 pm in reply to: The official The End of Time thread (will contain pre-broadcast spoilers/speculation and post-broadcast spoilers) #106901 JamesTCParticipant >Also any ideas for the Speedy New Who Catch-Up would be appreciated too. Go for the big episodes first, the popular ones, the ones which a neccesary to tell the story. I suggest atleast regardless of what I think of them – ‘Dalek’ ‘The Empty Child’/’The Doctor Dances’ ‘Bad Wolf’/’Parting of the Ways’ ‘The Christmas Invasion’ (New Doctor) ‘School Reunion’ (As an introduction to SJS) ‘The Girl in the Fireplace’ (Because it is a classic) ‘Rise of the Cybermen’/’The Age of Steel’ (For the Big Bad of the year) ‘The Impossible Planet’/’The Satan Pit’ (For the Ood) ‘Army of Ghosts’/’Doomsday’ (As an explanation for Rose going and her return and all that) ‘The Runaway Bride’ (As an introduction to Donna) ‘Smith and Jones’ (For Martha) ‘Daleks in Manhattan’/’Evolution of the Daleks’ (For the Caan! storyline) ‘Human Nature’/’The Family of Blood’ (Because it is a classic) ‘Blink’ (Second place in poll and all) ‘Utopia’/’The Sound of Drums’/’Last of the Time Lords’ (for the Master who is back, and ‘Utopia’ which is great) ‘Partners in Crime’ (An reintroduction to Donna) ‘Turn Left’/’The Stolen Earth’/’Journey’s End’ (To explain crazy Donna) That is two episodes a night. Those I think are the necessary ones, maybe ‘The Fires of Pompeii’/’Planet of the Ood’ too for all the DoctorDonna stuff. I missed off ‘Silence in The Library’/’Rivers Run’ because those can be watched at a later time after the christmas specials I’d say, they are needed for the Moffat era though. New Monster, Best Opening Ep, Best >Finale, Best Epic Two-Parter, Best Bottle Ep etc. >Thoughts? I think it is a nice idea, though has there really been more than one bottle episode of the new series? Apart from the CIN specials all I can think of is the wonderful ‘Midnight’. FYI, Donna/Wilf, Davros, Ood, Parters in Crime, Journeys End, The Empty Child/The Doctor Dances, Midnight. December 9, 2009 at 5:34 pm in reply to: The official The End of Time thread (will contain pre-broadcast spoilers/speculation and post-broadcast spoilers) #106892 JamesTCParticipant I said he written it? I was giving an example of a piece of fanwank in the main series. Another couple of fanwanks – ‘Attack of the Cybermen’ ‘Journeys End’ December 9, 2009 at 5:29 pm in reply to: The official The End of Time thread (will contain pre-broadcast spoilers/speculation and post-broadcast spoilers) #106890 JamesTCParticipant >and the main series isn?t. ‘The Five Doctors’. December 9, 2009 at 5:17 pm in reply to: The official The End of Time thread (will contain pre-broadcast spoilers/speculation and post-broadcast spoilers) #106888 JamesTCParticipant >I think calling time Crash a story might be overstating it a little bit. It was, primarily, for fun. I guess scene or mini-episode would be a better epithet though you are being pedantic, arn’t all Doctor Who stories for fun, by which which I mean to entertain. December 9, 2009 at 3:03 pm in reply to: The official The End of Time thread (will contain pre-broadcast spoilers/speculation and post-broadcast spoilers) #106881 JamesTCParticipant >and Moffat won?t do it either, which is a bit obvious so I probably don?t need to say it. Why is it obvious, he is the guy bringing back the Daleks and the Silurians and possibly the Cybermen in his first year and he has written a multi-Doctor story in the past. December 5, 2009 at 4:03 pm in reply to: The official The End of Time thread (will contain pre-broadcast spoilers/speculation and post-broadcast spoilers) #106841 JamesTCParticipant >So, short skirts, eh? December 5, 2009 at 1:09 am in reply to: The official The End of Time thread (will contain pre-broadcast spoilers/speculation and post-broadcast spoilers) #106830 JamesTCParticipant http://s368.photobucket.com/albums/oo121/SoundableObject/?action=view¤t=Master.jpg >There?s a world between ?not normal? and ?robot? – not the least of which is the bizarre conclusion-jump from a blue-hued human skeleton to definitive robot At which point did I say he was a definite robot, from the evidence I think he is a cyborg, I never said he was definatly one, it may have been better to say “he might be”, I have already elaborated that it is not a normal skeleton and we can both see that from the above picture, unless it is bad CGI work. December 5, 2009 at 12:14 am in reply to: The official The End of Time thread (will contain pre-broadcast spoilers/speculation and post-broadcast spoilers) #106824 JamesTCParticipant Assumptions make the world go round. Plus it isn’t a misinterpretation, it looks like a metal endoskelaton type structure, it is repeated in the latest clips, he is clearly not normal inside. That is unless it is just really shit CGI, if that is true though they wouldn’t repeat it so much in clips. Also note the a Gallifrey type logo thing behind the Master when he is at the computer, similar to the one Dalton was wearing in that picture from a while back. December 4, 2009 at 8:21 pm in reply to: The official The End of Time thread (will contain pre-broadcast spoilers/speculation and post-broadcast spoilers) #106820 JamesTCParticipant >Can?t say I?m particularly enamoured with The Master shooting laser bolts from his hand. He’s a robot/cyborg. I don’t understand why he is wearing a dog leash near the end of the clip. A bad pun to do with his characters name. That bit bugs me alot because Blue Midget shouldn?t have feelings, should it? It was replicating what Cat did shortly before to the teeth. December 2, 2009 at 9:05 pm in reply to: The official The End of Time thread (will contain pre-broadcast spoilers/speculation and post-broadcast spoilers) #106782 JamesTCParticipant It is Doctor Who, on-screen deaths never take. December 2, 2009 at 7:35 pm in reply to: The official The End of Time thread (will contain pre-broadcast spoilers/speculation and post-broadcast spoilers) #106775 JamesTCParticipant The cast list has been revealed, notable mentions – Roger Bailey (Time Lord) Penelope Wilton (Harriet Jones) Well not that much notable actually, those are for part 2. Matt Smith is also in the cast list but we all knew he was in part 2. Sourse -http://www.denofgeek.com/television/373632/doctor_who_the_end_of_time_cast_list_confirmed_with_surprises_in_store.html Though really it is from IMDB which hardly is the most reliable of sources. December 2, 2009 at 6:42 pm in reply to: The official The End of Time thread (will contain pre-broadcast spoilers/speculation and post-broadcast spoilers) #106767 JamesTCParticipant Pfft, I think he’ll stay for the Moffat era. December 2, 2009 at 8:24 am in reply to: Blue Midget dance = blatent clue to hallucination #106740 JamesTCParticipant >Ooh, I have a Red Dwarf question. How come Kochanski and Lister never dated in Series I and II, but in Series III they used to date? And how come she looks different when she?s a main character? Talkie Toaster went back in time and changed the past. December 1, 2009 at 11:18 pm in reply to: Blue Midget dance = blatent clue to hallucination #106732 JamesTCParticipant >How on Earth can the fact that several ship to site transport vessels can actually copy a man?s coordination They couldn’t in Series 1-VII because of all the JMC cut backs but when the nano bots recreated the ship it made Blue Midget more sophisticated, including an improved movement and sensors meaning it can “dance”. November 28, 2009 at 11:39 pm in reply to: DVD recommendations #106684 JamesTCParticipant What about Westworld, bloody good film that, the end scared the shit out of me as a kid. I should get that on DVD actually. November 27, 2009 at 11:56 pm in reply to: Torchwood #106654 JamesTCParticipant >Certainly some aren?t keen on the suggestion that Firefly was anything other than perfect from minute one? I thought it was perfect from minute one, an episode or two later wern’t perfect but I loved ‘Serenity’. Can’t beat a bit of Crackdown and Metal Gear Solid. November 25, 2009 at 11:17 pm in reply to: Argumental on BBC Two #106533 JamesTCParticipant The BBC are not interested in the audience Red Dwarf will attract. November 25, 2009 at 5:48 pm in reply to: Holoship Xtended #106516 JamesTCParticipant I remember Holoship having the best deleted scenes from Series V though I haven’t seen them since the DVD was released. The only ones I felt the need to rewatch were Series VI with Polymorph 2 easily having the biggest loss in the deleted scene front, I remember one really long cock-pit scene which lost so much great stuff. Series VII lost some good stuff too is memory serves me. November 25, 2009 at 4:40 pm in reply to: DVD recommendations #106510 JamesTCParticipant -I?m looking at my DVD collection in sad realisation that I own nothing that you probably haven?t already seen? apart from perhaps ?They Live!? I have it on DVD, I don’t have sunglasses though. November 25, 2009 at 4:37 pm in reply to: Holoship Xtended #106509 JamesTCParticipant Seamless, really very good, though it has made me realise something that I haven’t before, why the hell does that elevator take so long on a holographic ship? It is a shame we never got Holoship Xtended so it would be nice to finally see it, same with Polymorph 2: Emohawk which lost so much great dialogue. November 25, 2009 at 1:20 pm in reply to: Series VII, bad Dwarf but good comedy tv? #106498 JamesTCParticipant Sonic 3 and Knuckles. November 23, 2009 at 11:02 pm in reply to: Series VII, bad Dwarf but good comedy tv? #106442 JamesTCParticipant Do you want Series VIII of Red Dwarf? November 22, 2009 at 8:56 pm in reply to: Series VII, bad Dwarf but good comedy tv? #106411 JamesTCParticipant >Why do they chose to stay aboard Red Dwarf when they have had so many opportunities to go back to Earth? November 22, 2009 at 1:36 am in reply to: Canabalt – a surprisingly fun Flash-based Parkour game #106359 JamesTCParticipant 2835 is my best till now. November 22, 2009 at 12:39 am in reply to: Series VII, bad Dwarf but good comedy tv? #106348 JamesTCParticipant Oh and I like ‘Beyond a Joke’, I don’t think it is the worst episode of Dwarf, I don’t even think it is the worst in Series VIII November 22, 2009 at 12:39 am in reply to: Series VII, bad Dwarf but good comedy tv? #106347 JamesTCParticipant To be fair about the CGI it was not meant to go that way was it? It was all models originally but that all went tits up since they were doing the model filming while they were filming so the couldn’t account for changes in the script and couldn’t film any additional bits. Then again the CGI doesn’t really effect the final outcome too much, only a few times does it look really bad, I remember ‘Ouroboros’ having the worst but looking at the time and money available it is a massive accomplishment I think. I could say the same for the entire series though, it is a massive accomplishment under such pressure, same with VIII with the lack of money causing loss of scripts and the need for re-writes to extend episodes and the same with BtE which had a tiny budget. November 21, 2009 at 11:59 pm in reply to: Series VII, bad Dwarf but good comedy tv? #106345 JamesTCParticipant Erm, pretty much, maybe I’d rather watch ‘The Tomb of the Cybermen’ over 3 episodes of VII (the same amount of minutes basically) but that is it.
