Most of my Who knowledge comes from the DVDs and up to now I have not heard Ian bashing, a bit on the forums every now and again. Maybe that will change with ‘Attack of the Cybermen’ set for March.

Why is he so hated by Doctor Who fans? I don’t see much wrong with the guy, it is down to him that some Doctor Who episodes were recovered, he should be praised for bringing them from total destruction, what has he done that is so bad? (not including Doctor in Distress)

Where is the other windows in Star Bug? I don’t remember seeing any apart from in ‘Tikka to Ride’ when the ship splits but that is windows in the middle of the ship.

From memory Doug?s intro at the start of the series 8 script book acknowledges a lot of what ?the fans? didn?t like about the series and so for series 8, presumably to please his audience; back came not only Rimmer, but Red Dwarf itself, the studio audience and the bunk-room scenes. It was in effective a nostaglia trip.

Makes it sound like Doug Naylor is John Nathan Turner, give the fans what they ask, get fucked over when they don’t like what they asked for.

That does seem about right, maybe it is just that I prefer BBC2 so much more, I don’t really watch much on BBC1, Doctor Who is really the only show. One flaw in what you said is that you say it is the program when putting Torchwood on BBC2 from BBC3 will gain an audiance, putting it on BBC1 from BBC2 will almost certainly gain more, why? Put a program on the same night on BBC1 and on BBC2 the same time and BBC1 will get millions more viewers, crazy if you ask me, channels should be judged by each show as it goes.

You need to buy a free-view box which right now costs about ?10 for the cheapest which isn’t that bad, I think in a rescent thing it said 90% had free-view anyway. From this year all the TVs will need a free-view box to recieve a signal as well, this means BBC3 and Dave will be just as accesable as BBC2 or ITV. I wonder why BBC1 always gets so much more ratings than BBC2, it is only one channel up!

That is the new series were they are just lazy with the DVDs and don’t give a shit.
The classic series on the other hand gives a mammoth amount of extras, infact the best DVD on my collection is ‘The Trial of a Time Lord’.

As seperate episodes ‘Back in the Red’ is not too good (by Red Dwarf standards) but the versions on the DVD which splice the story together with re-orded scenes and deleted scenes added make it much more enjoyable, sort of like a Red Dwarf Movie (who would have thought of it).
‘Cassandra’ was probably the smartest episode of Series VII and VIII and alot of the comedy is drawn from that which improves the episode greatly. The ending is very good too.
‘Krytie TV’ is my favourite of Series VIII, I guess I just love Kryten too much. I like Lister and Rimmer being sort of friends here because they have been in that prison for atleast a few months by this time (isn’t it established as a year in ‘Pete’?) so they must have learned to live with one another but I must say Robert steals the show as the rogue Kryten.
‘Pete’ is really more of two episodes. Part 1 is fantastic, I loved almost everything in it, the basket ball game worked quite well actually, jokes like Kryten getting the ball and cleaning it are just brilliant. The Time Wand stuff was a bit of a hit and miss, things like the man talking and stopping was terrible but the stuff with Cat and Kochanski ecoming younger with different clothes was very funny and it is followed with probably my favourite joke of the series, Kochanski says “How will we get this back on board” and Kryten replies “Don’t worry I have an excellent place to conceal it” and in the next scene he has that raised head, I don’t remember watching much of Red Dwarf VIII when it was on, I remember being really happy while watching BITR1 and that scene. Part 2 has a dinosaur.
‘Only the Good’ was a good episode but I was never happy with how it ended the series, I won’t have to worry about that now!

Plus of course the fact that somehow Lister managed to find his way to the Aigburth Arms in Liverpool more or less around the timeframe he was originally from, and opted to return to Red Dwarf 3 million years in deep space despite the whole objective of the show for Lister was to find Kochanski (check) and get to Earth (check).

Same thing in Tikka To Ride, when they end up on Earth (in Texas) with a time drive. Why would you even go back into deep space where you are lost and have no supplies, when you?re back on Earth?

In ‘Tikka to Ride’ x-tended it had the ending with Lister getting the curry back and he says something along the lines of “If only we can use this to get back to our time” and Kryten replies “Sir, look what happened with Dallas, who knows what would happen if we lived in the past permanently”.

I certainly get the immpression it is 4X30 minutes especially since Robert Llew said at first it was a one hour special, I hope he didn’t mean one hour and that includes adverts.
Besides it would be easier to market the new Dwarf as 30 minutes because it would then match the previous episodes.

DWO confirmed ‘The Keys of Marinus’ for 2009 release, 2|E are being really open about released this year! Not that I’m complaining, I love knowing what is to come.

They are proper episodes. I think filming will take about 4 weeks at most, it is only 2 episodes and a clip show to film with the behind the scenes filming through all 3.
It starts the same day filming as Doctor Who I think, good day for TV filming, bad day for me as I have an A-Level Statistics exam!
Rob also said in his Tweet that filming was in Manchester and London if that is of intrest to anyone.

I thought Series VII was fantastic, it is the first series I can remember watching on original broadcast, I remember watching ‘Blue’.
I can’t understand why people don’t like Series VII, it is probably the worst out of all of Red Dwarf’s Series but far better than any other TV show ever made. Give me Series VII over Doctor Who or Seinfeld any day!

You could probably swap any episode from 2-9 around and it wouldn’t change too much but I have to say episode 10 was just brilliant besides it is great to get another Troughton. I was hoping for more Pertywee though, he has 13 stories after ‘Frontier in Space’/’Planet of the Daleks’, that is 13 stories spread over 3 years, 4 for one year and five for another, I think the next Pertwee’s we will see will be the liked of ‘The Daemons’ and ‘Invasion of the Dinosaurs’ though, they can benefit from dot chrome reconstruction which was used for ‘Planet of the Daleks’, shame they didn’t realise before ‘Doctor Who and the Silurians’ was released, that would have a better picture using dot chrome restoration then the use of NTSC tapes.

I always thought it was that the TARDIS had several different console rooms through the ship which all have a gateway to the outside of the ship. Certainly the second wooden TARDIS room from season 16 was in a different part of the TARDIS since it starts with Tom and Lis finding the room.

Obviously the idiots who voted for Colin Baker are not familiar with 1. what was happening behind the scenes of Who which caused the scripts to be worse and 2. Big Finish Audio. If they heard ‘Medicinal Purposes’, ‘The One Doctor” Arrangements for War’, ‘Bloodtide’, ‘Jubilee’ or ‘The Apocolypse Element’ which are some of the best Who has to offer, people are usually following the crowd saying Colin Baker ruined Who, what the fuck did Colin Baker do, he had character development and mystery? I guess someone will come along and say his outfit was awful, it was meant to be. The only thing that was wrong in 1985 was the lack of money from bastards like Michael Grade who hated the show and would stop at nothing until its off the air, oh and Eric Saward was a bit, erm, overbearing.
