    Blackadder’s Christmas Carol
    Bottom: Holy
    A Very Christmassy Ted
    Home Alone 1 & 2
    The Muppet Christmas Carol
The 1996 Only Fools & Horses Trilogy

    And… Jingle All The Way!

Any film with Arnie lamping a reindeer in the face is inherently funny in my books.

I liked it, plodding first 45 minutes but once it gets rolling, it’s pretty fricking great. Andy Serkis is still incredible.

I always pronounce it Tee-ka even though it doesn’t really make sense in terms of the episode title.

I’d have called it something more sensible like ‘The crazy capers of Lee Harvey Oswald in the Texas Book Depository… with guns and shit’

    > I think he’s written a few great songs, but it can’t be coincidence that the song of his I enjoy the most is one not sung by him: Celebrity Skin.

I saw them live at Reading in 2007, and it was largely tedious, interminable drivel. Although I still think Tonight Tonight is great.

    —-

I’d argue all day that he’s written way more than a ‘few’ great songs but you’d have to have listened to all of the albums and many of the b-sides to be aware of many of them. They’re definitely one of those bands where the singles aren’t always the cream of the crop. Fair dues on enjoying the ones not sung by him though, his voice is one I love but definitely something I can understand people strongly disliking.

The Reading 2007 set was amazing however, that set was massively for the hardcores. They opened with ‘Superchrist’ which at the time was a song that they’d just written and wasn’t known by anyone outside the bootlegging community or those people who attending shows earlier that month in San Francisco. Come to think of it, it’s not widely known even now. That set the tone for the entire set, he played for his fans and he wasn’t fussed about crowd pleasing. Arrogant and selfish? Yeah probably but I didn’t care, those are the songs I wanted to hear.

…and Phil, how the the heck have I missed that song? I’ve never heard that before in my life!

I will unashamedly state right now that I think Billy Corgan is a musical genius and that my Smashing Pumpkins fandom is probably more intense than my love of Red Dwarf.

I can understand people being dismissive of the band because of his voice, BC’s persona in the media and the new line-up… points I all disagree with but there’s no denying that musically, the guy is fucking amazing. ESPECIALLY LIVE!

They’re just one of those bands that have that Marmite effect.

So I will simply say with the greatest respect that I strongly disagree with the above four posts. Well, except for the love of Seb!

I have a soft spot for Darlene Love’s ‘All alone for Christmas’.

In my opinion, the greatest Christmas song that nobody normal has heard is definitely the Smashing Pumpkins’ ‘Christmastime’. A quite wonderful little song and quite touching if you identify with it.

    Hey Mabel,

I’ve changed my room from a double to a twin so you’re all set. If you do go with others (and don’t feel bad if you do), just let me know so I can change it back to a double.

Room is booked for the Friday and Saturday night.

Also… I’ve driving up from Hertfordshire (just outside the city). If peeps are interested in carpooling (no on camera interview I promise) then let me know as I’m open to suggestions.

After the hijinx of late from those since banished, I think it’s a good thing to share positive thoughts about G&T.

So I went to this event tonight and I must say, everyone I met was fucking fantastic and so welcoming. I was a little apprehensive about attending because I didn’t know a soul but after about 5 minutes, I felt as comfortable as can be. It might aura destroying for some but team G&T were all top people and I’m now thoroughly looking forward to busting my DJ cherry in 2013.

A big thank you to Ian, Cappsy, Seb, Paul, Bill, Lee, Angela and everyone else I shared a word with for making it a great night; I’ve now come to regard you as people I met.

Oh and we bloody won by some distance too, Cashback!!!

We can split into two teams if we can get at least 8 of us unless any other G&T’ers object? I know we’re going for glory here!

News to me! How did I miss that? Still, I think I’ve missed the GTA party now. I’ve got plenty of unopened games that I need to crack on with anyway.

Oh and for anyone wondering Playstation Plus is an utter bargain! I can’t get through all the content they barrage us with! Not enough hours in the day!

The sad thing is that I’m not even sure it is the lowest point. It’s low but I’m sure there’s something worse.

I know it’s not American but I seem to recall a Sky TV show about a female singer (I can’t remember who) on a quest to find the perfect pair of jeans. This is what the world has come to.

If any TV execs are reading, if you want a TV show about my quest to finding the perfect snack to accompany my days on the sofa, please get in touch. £10,000 per episode starting rate for a run of 12 episodes minimum. Said snacks must be brought to me, I’m not willing to travel.

Am I the only person in the world that really disliked GTA when it moved from top down to 3D? I just found myself wandering aimlessly and when a mission popped up, it really wasn’t that interesting so I went back to aimlessly driving around.

Perhaps I’m just a sucker for retro gaming. That being said, I echo Mister Capps sentiments about this generation of consoles, they’ve been very impressive.

Ticket secured! Really looking forward to this… gonna have to brush up on my Dwarf knowledge this week.

On a side note, there is a small chance that I will be called in for ‘urgent’ surgery in the next week, nothing serious but serious enough that they’re calling it urgent apparently. Anyway, in the unlikely event that I’m unable to attend, if there is a person that wants to be a reserve, I’ll gladly e-mail you my ticket if you send me an e-mail address to do so.

The ticket says non-transferrable and has my name on it but in all honesty, they’ll just scan it and let you in! We know how these things work!

Going back a bit up this thread but what the hell! Thanks everyone for those nuggets of advice.

Jo – thanks for the heads up, will book the room today!

Mabel – yes, I’ll get a double room for myself anyway so if you find yourself in need, we can turn this into a twin :-)

As long as I’m not attacked over the holidays by a pan-dimensional liquid beast from the Mogadon cluster then I’m going to 100% be attending DJ. Since I’m a long time dwarfer that’s dreamed of going to DJ after seeing it on the Smeg Up/Out VHS tapes, I feel like it’s finally time to man up and go. I’m quite apprehensive about going there solo and not knowing a soul but hopefully some of you will at least throw me a friendly glance when we’re there so I can imagine I have a friend.

In regards to room sharing and stuff… I plan to book my tickets and room come January when that pesky holiday is out of the way. I’m a pretty normal 28 year old male so if anyone wants to share then I’m open to the suggestion if it helps make it affordable for someone else. If not, I’ll have a nice big room to myself.

In regards to DJ, any advice for a n00b attending? Want to make the most of it.

I think this one is a little better than my first effort actually. Simple yet effective… as you can tell I’ve mastered pomposity even if say so myself!

In The End he was a joke among men,
He’s snuffed it a few times since then,
    That wasn’t goodbye,
    You live once then die,
But sometimes you can live again.

I suck at limericks but here’s an futile attempt.

Lister committed crimes that were petty,
Kryten found kebabs brown and sweaty,
    The Cat’s pretty dumb,
    And the other one,
    His mum likes alphabetti spaghetti

I have friends that don’t watch the show and what they have seen they’re not enamoured with. However, several of these friends caught some of ‘Dear Dave’ and the French vending machine and Cat’s charades cracked them all up. Legit woofer reaction too. I’m wondering if those are the same points that tickled the old series fans mentioned in the first post of this thread.

Just an interesting point that those elements seem to grab the attention of the non/casual fans.

I still attest if these people watched the series in full that they’d see even more in it but then I’m a grumpy longtime fan.

We don’t know what happened to Earth or anything in our solar system after the accident happened so anything could have happened to derail the search/concern for the ship. A great question left unanswered.

The bug cockpit from VI is by far my favourite set from the entire series run. It fit the ship perfectly and was perfectly suited to contain all 4 cast members. Midget was cool but never elicited the same reaction from me as the bug in design or interior.
