Yes, yes, we've been lousy at keeping up with this sort of thing recently. But in case you're not aware, the Proper TV Version of Carpool with Bobby Llew starts tonight, on Dave, at 8.30pm. The first guest is Jason Manford, but don't let that put you off. We've already seen how something doing really well on Dave can lead to lots of immediately exciting possibilities that definitely don't go wrong. Er.

Anyway, Robert is great, and this deserves to do well, so let's help make it so. There's also a nice little piece on BBC News about the show, in which Robert admirably tackles the question of whether there are any of his Dwarf pals he hasn't interviewed yet by answering "Norman Lovett", although admittedly failing to add "Because he's been an arsehole lately."

Yes, alright, well, YOU try coming up with a headline for this news. Anyway, congratulations are in order for Mr Robert Llewellyn, who has single-handedly proven the axiom that nowadays the best way to get original content off the ground is to do it yourself, stick it online and wait for a broadcaster who's looking for a proven success to jump onboard with rather than taking chances on something risky in this difficult economic climate. By which I mean, Dave have decided to turn Bobby's web-based interview series (seems weird seeing it described as a "chat show", doesn't it? But then, I suppose that's what it is) Carpool into an actual proper TV series. It'll be sponsored by Toyota, whose Prius is (as if you didn't know) the car Bobby uses to give his guests lifts - and if Dave have any sense, they'll basically retain the existing format to the letter and simply tart up the graphics and sound quality a little bit.

Now, if you'll excuse us, we're just going to give Dave a ring ourselves to see if they're interested in doing an animated version of Dwarfcasts.

"Seb, do you know what schadenfreude is?"
"(sigh) No, I do not know what shaden-frawde is. Please tell me, because I’m dying to know."
"It’s a German term for 'shameful joy', taking pleasure in the suffering of others."
"Oh, come on. I’m just glad to see them fall flat on their butts!"

So, yes. The unofficial convention Better Than Life 2 (Manchester United 0) is no more. But I have to give them this - why go out with dignity, when you can bitch and moan and whinge instead?

As headed up by Dave on the forum... lovely stuff. Six (judging by the number of buttons) random Dwarf sound clips on a daft little keyring type device. The phrases are apparently (TBC), but will be chosen from a conveniently-included list. I hope they include the Princess Bonjela one, that's one of the few good lines from VII. These things are of course completely daft and pointless, but they're also (judging by how many different franchises now have them) pretty popular, so it's nice to see Dwarf get one.

Just in case you're thinking about it, though, I still wouldn't trust FPI with my card details. The other Forbidden Planet should be fine, though.

Doctor Who and Red Dwarf mashups are nothing new, nor are they that surprising - there's a lot of crossover between the fandoms (as evidenced by our forum) and ever since the revived series began we've been pointing out "amusing" connections, be they casting coincidences, dialogue similarities or simply just us taking the piss. And there are a slew of videos on Youtube that consist of people setting Who clips to the Dwarf opening theme. Most of them aren't very good.

No direct Red Dwarf connection here, but as the co-writer of Alien and, perhaps more pertinently, Dark Star, it's safe to say that Dan O'Bannon - who has passed away at the age of 63 - should be counted as one of the most influential figures in late '70s/early '80s sci-fi, and consequently can be said to be one of those people without whom the show might not actually even exist. RIP.

Dimension Jump attendees have just been the first to be informed - by Doug Naylor, via email passed on by Andrew Ellard - that Dave have commissioned six new episodes of Red Dwarf for broadcast in late 2010.

Also, it's been hinted that (a) there may actually end up being more than six, depending on budget; and (b) it'll probably have a studio audience.

More to follow.
