October 11, 2025 at 8:45 pm in reply to: Any anime fans round here? #312041 Android 72264YParticipant Tangentially anime related but I started P3R and paid respects to the Duke of Dork October 6, 2025 at 11:32 pm in reply to: RD Series I – XIII Boxset #311871 Android 72264YParticipant I don’t know if you could even check this, but is Back to Earth still 1080i with a variable framerate? I can’t really say but it should be consistent October 6, 2025 at 6:58 pm in reply to: RD Series I – XIII Boxset #311864 Android 72264YParticipant That’s good to hear. Do the AA ads include the radio ones, or just the TV ads? Just the TV ads (20, 50 & 60 sec) October 6, 2025 at 6:52 pm in reply to: RD Series I – XIII Boxset #311863 Android 72264YParticipant Is it ‘Thanks For The Memories’ or ‘Thanks For The Memory’ on the Series II blu-ray menu? According to the booklet, it’s the latter October 6, 2025 at 4:44 pm in reply to: Your Red Dwarf Art #311855 Android 72264YParticipant Not my art but commissioned a lovely chap from Reddit to draw Yu Narukami as Ace Rimmer Artist link October 6, 2025 at 4:23 pm in reply to: RD Series I – XIII Boxset #311853 Android 72264YParticipant Oh cool, looks great. Happy birthday. One thing we all want to know is if the series 3 and 5 discs are correct or do they have the issues the original blu-ray set had which lead to them sending out replacement discs. Played their respective episodes without issue or glitches. So far, so good. August 9, 2025 at 12:01 pm in reply to: Any anime fans round here? #309857 Android 72264YParticipant Space Dandy is the closest we’ll get to ‘anime’ Dwarf tonally, great pick. Outlaw Star’s another sci-fi classic that needs loving every now and again. August 6, 2025 at 10:13 am in reply to: Any anime fans round here? #309675 Android 72264YParticipant I quite like Mashle: Magic and Muscles. I recommend Konosuba — it’s a brilliant satire on the isekai genre; the protagonist is a smeghead but cares deeply for his party members who are different shades of goit. August 5, 2025 at 10:36 am in reply to: Your Unpopular Red Dwarf Opinions #309657 Android 72264YParticipant Can’t expect a zoomer to be the fountain of all knowledge, can you? August 5, 2025 at 1:23 am in reply to: Mundane observation dome #309644 Android 72264YParticipant Fun Fact: My dad calls Hollister ‘Big Mac’ and joked he ate Frankenstein. August 5, 2025 at 1:06 am in reply to: Your Unpopular Red Dwarf Opinions #309642 Android 72264YParticipant I admire Series VII for its the single camera presentation and lack of live studio audience — essentially trailblazing the route comedy-dramas would follow in the late 2000s and beyond. Kinda fascinating in that respect. August 4, 2025 at 7:40 pm in reply to: Any anime fans round here? #309634 Android 72264YParticipant Adventure – but unfortunately that preference doesn’t mean much because I’ve only watched that and Tamers, and it’s the only one I’ve seen to the end. Tamers and Frontier are the two I’ve watched to completion — the latter was a special pain in the arse because Jetix or CITV (can’t remember which) didn’t bother showing it in the UK, a similar fate with Series 5/Savers. (I’m holding out the original unedited broadcast resurfaces in a physical release someday). I watched two episodes of the Persona 4 anime but I’d just finished the game so didn’t really feel like it. The anime is worth it. They rebuilt Yu into a charismatic gigachad teasing his party members (What he pulls on Yosuke in Episode 19 is hilarious and their take on the Kings Game is something you have to see for yourself). Also, can I just say how much I love no one mentioning anything from after 2005? My favourite post-’05 works has to be Ouran Host Club, Bocchi the Rock, K-On!, the aforementioned Madoka Magica, Hyouka, Toradora, Your Name, A SIlent Voice and Suzume. SoL fare peppered with psychological horror. August 4, 2025 at 12:36 am in reply to: Who has has a Red Dwarf dream? #309606 Android 72264YParticipant Another vivid Dwarf Dream but this time Ackerman executes Lister by drowning in a vat of kefir; the charge was bludgeoning Nano-Rimmer to death with the post off ‘Krytie TV’. August 4, 2025 at 12:19 am in reply to: Any anime fans round here? #309604 Android 72264YParticipant Digimon. Sweet. Got a favourite season/era? August 1, 2025 at 6:09 pm in reply to: Mundane observation dome #309542 Android 72264YParticipant Re-watching Series VIII I notice Chris carried a bit of dad weight/bloating that wasn’t present in previous and subsequent seasons. Maybe Brittas got him into shape? August 1, 2025 at 6:01 pm in reply to: Favourite incidental music cues? #309541 Android 72264YParticipant I’d be curious to find out the synths/equipment Howard used throughout Series IV-VI, I love those velvet ambient passages. August 1, 2025 at 11:10 am in reply to: Your Unpopular Red Dwarf Opinions #309533 Android 72264YParticipant Im not sure where the anti-hero came from. I wouldn’t say the Cat is an anti-hero. Rimmer is more an anti-hero. It’s something I like to call ‘rubber band characterisation’ where a character spiritually grows over the course of the series then says or does something that resets their journey back to square one (e.g. Rimmer’s homophobia in ‘Dimension Jump’) July 30, 2025 at 1:58 pm in reply to: Who has has a Red Dwarf dream? #309424 Android 72264YParticipant *(send aid) Funnily enough, I woke up right after Chie entered Starbug to Galactic Punt it. July 30, 2025 at 1:44 pm in reply to: Your Unpopular Red Dwarf Opinions #309421 Android 72264YParticipant but I recall my overall feeling from that 2009 weekend was that Doug had had a decade to find some good jokes and somehow still failed. Doug’s under the delusion RD isn’t fundamentally a ‘no hugging, no learning’ sitcom, and the more he tries circumventing that edict the worse it becomes. July 29, 2025 at 8:04 pm in reply to: Who has has a Red Dwarf dream? #309374 Android 72264YParticipant I had a Red Dwarf x Persona 4 one where Duane Dibbley and Ace Rimmer pass through an unreality pocket and crash land in Inaba (the main setting of the game). Ace explains to the Protagonist (Yu) that Emohawk is afoot and needs their help. July 24, 2025 at 9:32 pm in reply to: Your Unpopular Red Dwarf Opinions #309189 Android 72264YParticipant I’m not ashamed of my culinary palate :P July 24, 2025 at 4:37 pm in reply to: Mundane observation dome #309177 Android 72264YParticipant Rimmer gives off ‘Neurodivergent Dad’ aura. July 23, 2025 at 6:46 pm in reply to: Your Unpopular Red Dwarf Opinions #309110 Android 72264YParticipant At least it’s not ultra processed gunk like Pot Noodle. Black pudding is a thing here. July 23, 2025 at 6:40 pm in reply to: Your Unpopular Red Dwarf Opinions #309108 Android 72264YParticipant Doesn’t sweet meat tend to refer to an animals bollocks? It’s an archaic term for confectionery…? July 23, 2025 at 3:36 pm in reply to: Your Unpopular Red Dwarf Opinions #309099 Android 72264YParticipant I’d sample a Dolphin Sweetmeat and Baby Seal Heart stuffed with Dove Pâté out of sheer morbid curiosity. July 21, 2025 at 11:45 pm in reply to: Your Unpopular Red Dwarf Opinions #309037 Android 72264YParticipant VI>V>II>III>IV>I July 21, 2025 at 11:20 pm in reply to: Why does Red Dwarf hate the penis? #309035 Android 72264YParticipant A shame, really. They have great aerodynamic properties. July 17, 2025 at 2:06 pm in reply to: Your Red Dwarf Memes for Safe and Courteous Disposal Out the Nearest Airlock #308838 Android 72264YParticipant Over here, it’s been 16 for nearly two decades (Isle of Man, in case you were wondering). July 17, 2025 at 7:37 am in reply to: Your Unpopular Red Dwarf Opinions #308828 Android 72264YParticipant On an unrelated note, Adachi has a lot in common with Rimmer. July 16, 2025 at 4:42 pm in reply to: Chris Barrie has updated his website #308803 Android 72264YParticipant Fuck. Forget never meeting your heroes, never google them either. July 16, 2025 at 3:16 pm in reply to: Favourite incidental music cues? #308800 Android 72264YParticipant ‘Holly Says Goodbye’ perfectly distilled the feelings of loss and reflection in under two minutes. July 16, 2025 at 2:26 pm in reply to: Favourite incidental music cues? #308794 Android 72264YParticipant ‘Space Walk’ from Confidence & Paranoia, the Prince-esque ‘Party Time’ from The Last Day, and the Gunmen theme. Shite, how could I’ve overlooked ‘Space Walk’? Another cheeky 2001 callback. July 16, 2025 at 11:12 am in reply to: Your favourite episode-ending punchlines #308779 Android 72264YParticipant “Queeg” because I remember the first time it caught me completely off guard. “We are talking Jape of the Decade. We are talking April, May, June, July, and August Fool.” July 15, 2025 at 11:52 pm in reply to: Series 2 -> Series 3 #308764 Android 72264YParticipant To me, Series II is a close second to IV because of its melancholic less-is-more ethos driving the narrative throughline. Rimmer gazing listlessly at the stars after discovering his social father’s passing makes his downward spiral in BTL that extra tragic. Special mention must go to the Observation Dome/Holly reprise from Queeg, punchline notwithstanding that level of poignancy always works. July 15, 2025 at 9:31 pm in reply to: Your favourite episode-ending punchlines #308755 Android 72264YParticipant “It’s a garbage pod.” “IT’S A SMEGGING GARBAGE POD!” July 15, 2025 at 9:30 pm in reply to: Who’s your favourite Rimmer? #308753 Android 72264YParticipant Series III Rimmer, the green outfit and cap suits him. It has this striking Thunderbirds/manga vibe that’s absent in later seasons. July 15, 2025 at 9:08 pm in reply to: Your Unpopular Red Dwarf Opinions #308750 Android 72264YParticipant Androids should’ve had a second season.
