One thing we all want to know is if the series 3 and 5 discs are correct or do they have the issues the original blu-ray set had which lead to them sending out replacement discs.

Played their respective episodes without issue or glitches. So far, so good.

Outlaw Star’s another sci-fi classic that needs loving every now and again.

I quite like Mashle: Magic and Muscles. 

I recommend Konosuba — it’s a brilliant satire on the isekai genre; the protagonist is a smeghead but cares deeply for his party members who are different shades of goit.

I admire Series VII for its the single camera presentation and lack of live studio audience — essentially trailblazing the route comedy-dramas would follow in the late 2000s and beyond. Kinda fascinating in that respect.

Adventure – but unfortunately that preference doesn’t mean much because I’ve only watched that and Tamers, and it’s the only one I’ve seen to the end. 

Tamers and Frontier are the two I’ve watched to completion — the latter was a special pain in the arse because Jetix or CITV (can’t remember which) didn’t bother showing it in the UK, a similar fate with Series 5/Savers. (I’m holding out the original unedited broadcast resurfaces in a physical release someday).

I watched two episodes of the Persona 4 anime but I’d just finished the game so didn’t really feel like it. 

The anime is worth it. They rebuilt Yu into a charismatic gigachad teasing his party members (What he pulls on Yosuke in Episode 19 is hilarious and their take on the Kings Game is something you have to see for yourself).

 Also, can I just say how much I love no one mentioning anything from after 2005?

My favourite post-’05 works has to be Ouran Host Club, Bocchi the Rock, K-On!, the aforementioned Madoka Magica, Hyouka, Toradora, Your Name, A SIlent Voice and Suzume. SoL fare peppered with psychological horror.

Im not sure where the anti-hero came from. I wouldn’t say the Cat is an anti-hero. Rimmer is more an anti-hero.

It’s something I like to call ‘rubber band characterisation’ where a character spiritually grows over the course of the series then says or does something that resets their journey back to square one (e.g. Rimmer’s homophobia in ‘Dimension Jump’)

I had a Red Dwarf x Persona 4 one where Duane Dibbley and Ace Rimmer pass through an unreality pocket and crash land in Inaba (the main setting of the game). Ace explains to the Protagonist (Yu) that Emohawk is afoot and needs their help.

To me, Series II is a close second to IV because of its melancholic less-is-more ethos driving the narrative throughline. Rimmer gazing listlessly at the stars after discovering his social father’s passing makes his downward spiral in BTL that extra tragic. Special mention must go to the Observation Dome/Holly reprise from Queeg, punchline notwithstanding that level of poignancy always works.
