I find it even weirder that Cat can fly a Star Bug.

I had a really weird dream about the new Red Dwarf specials, the gang were on earth with Holly who was in Hattie form and had a body too! Lister wanted to stay on earth but then Kryten convinced him not to by telling him they have poisoned powdered curry, they then walked down the street and a very squashed Star Bug was towering over the street, I’m not sure if that is a good or a bad dream.

Robert will have read the script, but will be under a strict NDA.
Usually one of the clauses of an NDA is that you?re not allowed to say you?re under an NDA.
So how I know what NDAs say I shall leave to your imagination ;)

A few weeks back he said he was under an NDA, I remember because I didn;t know what it was so I googled it, I know now.

Am I right in thinking that the omnibus are like a re-mastered version of the original novels. I have the omnibus right now because I lent the original IWCD to a friend and he has still not gave it back, in the end I wanted to read it and so bought it again, it was only ?5 and I got BTL with it in the omnibus.

I’m terrible but if you can reccomend a cable which would help me I could use that, I am working with a laptop with Vista, I assume it is a red, white and yellow cable that I should attatch to the front of the TV, if you could link me to a picture of a cable that I can buy I will happily get the trailers and little announcments before the episodes.
As far as I can remember I have Series IV on 1994 repeat, Series V on original, Series VI on original, Series VII minus ‘Blue’ and Series VIII though some of those were probably thrown at sadly, I certianly have Series IV and V.

In teh book it says he started to revise 3-4 hours a day and use the rest of his spare time not existing (stasis). He made the revision time-table in a few hours, he made a mistake on the time-table putting two septembers meaning he missed the exam, if he didn’t make that mistake I think he could have passed the exam, he was revising in a smart way.

Re-reading IWCD right now, I find Rimmer’s death much more tragic than in the show, in the book he is finally learning how to revise well, if his revision time-table wasn’t fucked up I think he could have passed the astro-navigation exam.

Yesterday I was up to the future echoes section of the book and slapped on Series 1 in the background, at the bit where Holly said something to Lister about plugging in the thing into the drive console I read the line out of the book.

    >I definitely remember seeing it on TV, and having it on video. As the first series I ever committed to tape was the repeat run of IV (around mid-1992)

I’m watching series IV on very old dusty tape now and it starts with ‘Dimension Jump’ so it is the 1993 (92?) repeat of the episodes, atleast one of the episodes ends with the video advert unless it is on series V or the BBC vids.

I was planning on watching Series IV anyway (as part of my re-watching all Dwarf before April), for old time sake I will lash the taped of TV version which was the only version I had till the DVDs. Got to love BBC idents. It is better on my tape of Series V though, it starts with a clip of Top Gear, Clarkson looked weird years ago and no jokes were present, it was just some crap about used cars!

The Dalek films are based on two Hartnell stories which are availible on DVD and are much better. They are called ‘The Daleks’ (it is availible in ‘The Beginning’ box set which I reccomend highly for the extras alone) and ‘The Dalek Invasion of Earth’. They planned a third film which was to be a re-make of ‘The Chase’ but I think Dalekmania had died down by then.

    >The Five Doctors is just a huge continuity-based circle jerk. Entertaining and fun, yes, but surely it?d be better to watch it after you?ve already got a good idea of those Doctors and enemies?

It was one of the first stories I saw and I thought it was a great story, not much knowledge didn’t hold me back. It was certainly the first story featuring Doctor 1,2 and 5 though the next day I watched ‘The Tomb of the Cybermen’ and ‘Earthshock’.

Well, they?re paying for four new pieces of Red Dwarf, including two shows, an entertainment programme and a documentary. It?s their first scripted comedy commission EVER. Yet your question is: Why aren?t they spending even more money to interview people unrelated to the programme, finance an edit (do you know how much those things cost?!) of outtakes that have been seen already and pay the cast to shoot scenes to introduce it all?
I mean, I know I?ve upset you recently by questioning the validity of your suggestions, but?it?s worth thinking through the logistical angle. There?s a common sense answer to this question and it is ?because they?re already financing quite a lot of content already, which is a hell of a thing for a new channel?.

Oh don’t get me wrong I have not forgotten that Dave are being the greatest channel in the world with the new Dwarf but I just thought it would be a cheap ratings grabber if they filmed a few interviews and some sort of pannel show thing but I guess you will know more about this stuff than me so I will be quiet in the corner now.

    >Dr. Who and the Daleks, Daleks- Invasion Earth 2150 AD

Those are not Doctor Who, it is about this bloke called Doctor Who who invents a time machine.
I think I will stick with the Time Lord who steals a TARDIS.
Watch ‘The Five Doctors’ as soon as possible though, it gives a very nice overview on several Doctors and enemies.

I’m sure I have seen them show VIII once, you are right that they mostly show Series V though, I sometimes see VI or IV too. I don’t see why they don’t show them in order.

Why doesn’t Dave have a Red Dwarf night like the BBC2 one from 1998?
Have the cast do some sort of 30 minute special (like ‘Universe Challange’), get some people in for interviews on their time on the show for another special. Have another Smeg Ups broadcast version using clips from all 8 series and specials with new linking bits with one of the cast and hold the night together with Kryten hosting and some episodes voted favourites, I would tune into that though I guess that is because I am a Dwarf fan. I hope I still have the tape of Dwarf night somewhere, just took a look and it is nowhere to be seen.

    >are we still compiling a list of must-see-old-who-probably-around-two-stories-of-each-era-for-Marleen here?

The problem is with such a giant amount of stories just 2 from each era is hard, some people like their ‘Pyramids of Mars’, some people like their ‘Genesis of the Daleks’ and some people like their ‘Arc in Space’.
For now I think it is best to get a handle of your favourite classic series Doctor and get a few stories of their era.

    >So the second example that springs to mind is a show that was broadcast in a post-watershed slot and featured examples of heterosexuality, homosexuality and bisexuality in fairly equal amounts. Not a good middle.

What about when characters spring from one sexuality onto another through the series, Ianto and Toshiko, in them cases I find it forced, though I think Ianto and Jack together is very good and funny.
Don’t get me wrong I think it is a great series, well series 1 was ok, series 2 was fantastic.

I’m just sick of these type of arguments now anyway, I hate arguing like this, it is not a debate, it is an argument which I hate, I will save talking about Who for IMDB and DWO. It just seems like every opinion I express somebody has to pick it apart, I enjoy the show but it has problems, end off discussion.

Why can’t he take a leaf out of JNTs book (awaits on of those smart arse comments, if yopu have one about JNT, fuck off, I don’t care). Listening to the audio he made on his time on Who when he talks of the comments some people were saying he says things along the lines of “I just carries on”. JNT got and gets more stick than RTD does, neither should get stick but to just say all hardcore fans are buzzing around him like insects is wrong, as I have said it is a vocal minority, it is always a vocal minority who spoil everything but it is obvious it is a vocal minority, not all hardcore Doctor Who fans hate the new series, infact it is only really a small amount that don’t, I enjoy it, not as much as I enjoy the classic series, I still enjoy it.

“Other sci-fi writers make a point of praising their hardcore fans, but Davies can be very rude about them (look away now, Whovians). “It’s like having a swarm of fucking mosquitoes buzzing around you. It doesn’t stop you doing your job, but, Christ, they buzz!””

    >Internet fans: they can dish it out, but they sure can?t take it.

I can take it, I’m not here smashing my key board going “I hate RTD” because I don’t.

    >All you mean is ?I don?t like that he doesn?t think me and my friends are right when we criticise him?.

Well I give more compliments than criticises, certainly during Series 4s run I hardly had anything bad to say about him as a writer.

    >But how is a professional meant to function when 99% of what?s written on the internet by fans IS crap? Smile and nod and say they?re all providing valuable input? You can argue that it?s impolitic to dismiss publicly. Or you can argue that without that ability to reject a writer becomes utterly stymied – and expressing it at least makes him candid and recognisably human rather than a corporate suit showrunner.

I think that he should not dismiss everybody on internet boards, the ones who deserve it should be dismissed, the ones who talk between themselves as fans and say what is right and wrong with episodes, I don’t see a problem with because I am one of them.

    >You don?t have a problem with the guy as a person, because you don?t know how he treats people, what kind of company he is, or how kind he is to animals.

How kind he is to animals? But you are right about that, I admit I was wrong there.

    >You dislike one thing, one judgement call and his mode of expressing it, based on a few for-public interviews. It?s ridiculous to summarise about his entire character.

Same as previous, it is very possible he is having a bad day but I just think when you are in the public eye those sort of comments should not be made, comments like that stick with me, one of the reasons I dis-like Eric Saward, he is a good writer but certain comments made, hmm.

    >As for mosquitos – anyone who posts a whinge about the show?s ?gay agenda? deserves to be swatted.
I do think he forces it in sometimes (such as Ricky being gay in ‘Age of Steel’ though this was cut for time, it is on teh Series 2 Boxset) but I don’t think it is a “gay agenda”, just parts of his character showing through.
