So I am angry that the episodes are 4 minutes shorter than usual and that the DVDs will not present the shorter original versions but present an xtended version. January 30, 2009 at 2:18 pm in reply to: The Out of Date Rumour Mill #90129 JamesTCParticipant I heard Doug mentioned something along the lines of Walace and Gromit, a clay animation Red Dwarf would be fantastic, think of the adventures they could have as clay. January 30, 2009 at 2:16 pm in reply to: The thought occurs… #90128 JamesTCParticipant >>The Easter Doctor Who special will be a pile of shite compared to Red Dwarf. >I say this as a Red Dwarf fan, but I have a sneaking suspicion it?ll be the other way round. I say this as a Doctor Who fan, the easter special will probably be a pile of shite with no comparison. January 30, 2009 at 2:10 pm in reply to: Back to Earth – Technical Specifications #90126 JamesTCParticipant They should smear jam on the camera, give it that nice red tint. January 30, 2009 at 2:08 pm in reply to: The thought occurs… #90125 JamesTCParticipant The Easter Doctor Who special will be a pile of shite compared to Red Dwarf. I don’t really care about New Who much these days anyway, it just seems like a bad version of Big Finish but I won’t get into that. January 29, 2009 at 6:54 pm in reply to: The Out of Date Rumour Mill #90036 JamesTCParticipant Oh yes, it is sold out on Amazon but they have it used for 1p + ?3 P&P. January 29, 2009 at 6:28 pm in reply to: Where is Rob Grant? #90029 JamesTCParticipant Rob has said that if he watched Series VII & VIII it would be like watching his ex-wife’s honeymoon. January 29, 2009 at 6:23 pm in reply to: DANNY! #90027 JamesTCParticipant If you make a new one I will have it as my wallpaper too, it will replace the ‘Back to Reality’ picture of ingame and Red Dwarf is blowing up around Star Bug. January 29, 2009 at 5:37 pm in reply to: Ludicrous prices payed for DVDs #90014 JamesTCParticipant >Sorry for turning the Blu-ray thread into a Terminator DVD discussion thread. This is a blu-ray thread? January 29, 2009 at 3:40 pm in reply to: The Out of Date Rumour Mill #89995 JamesTCParticipant I can already see a sequal! January 29, 2009 at 3:21 pm in reply to: The Out of Date Rumour Mill #89988 JamesTCParticipant Has anyone heard that rumour about a Red Dwarf film? January 29, 2009 at 3:16 pm in reply to: The Out of Date Rumour Mill #89986 JamesTCParticipant You know what Red dwarf needs? A blue midget dance, can never see it happening though. January 29, 2009 at 3:12 pm in reply to: Ludicrous prices payed for DVDs #89984 JamesTCParticipant Hmm, I might get the region 1 import then, T2 being my favourite film I think I can justify having it twice, I have Red Dwarf 1,2 and 3 on DVD twice so… January 28, 2009 at 4:26 pm in reply to: Ludicrous prices payed for DVDs #89870 JamesTCParticipant Isn’t a PS3 a DVD upscaler? January 28, 2009 at 12:15 am in reply to: Where is Rob Grant? #89800 JamesTCParticipant Rob and Doug didn’t have an argument did they? Rob Grant just didn’t want to be remebered as one of them writers of Red Dwarf. January 27, 2009 at 8:31 pm in reply to: Bobby on Sunday Night Project? #89787 JamesTCParticipant Alan Carr, he is the one who annoys me. January 27, 2009 at 8:15 pm in reply to: Bobby on Sunday Night Project? #89785 JamesTCParticipant I like one of those cunts, the other one annoys me, I would watch it Bobby was on it or another Red Dwarf cast member but not for many other people. January 27, 2009 at 4:17 pm in reply to: Shiny new logo! Details on new Dave intersite! #89762 JamesTCParticipant I have only had to wait 11 years, it seems like yesterday I caught the end of Ground Force followed by Star Bug up a rats arse. January 26, 2009 at 10:50 pm in reply to: Marleen’s NO SPOILERS ‘Recommend Me Old Who’ Thread. #89717 JamesTCParticipant I’m currently watching continuitys for ‘Warriors Gate’ and one of them is si’s current picture, it is advertising tele-text subtitles for the story with a Dalek next to it, why on earth is a Dalek there? January 26, 2009 at 8:09 pm in reply to: best and worst of the rd novels ?? #89707 JamesTCParticipant http://www.ganymede-titan.info/docs/moviefaq.php#plot “Oddly, this sounds rather like the Aganoids section of the Rob-Grant-only Red Dwarf novel Backwards.” Hmm. January 26, 2009 at 4:04 pm in reply to: best and worst of the rd novels ?? #89696 JamesTCParticipant Ok, I’m sorry. I have not seen a script, just a poster from years ago depicting Red Dwarf blowing up. I wonder if the film script will ever get released as a book some day, I doubt a film will be made now, now the specials are coming I can lose all hope of the film. January 26, 2009 at 3:50 pm in reply to: best and worst of the rd novels ?? #89694 JamesTCParticipant Well I heard that the Red Dwarf Movie was a new start like the books, it would need to establish characters and they would have to pick up Kryten. I was not very happy about the new start, I prefer continuing the story instead of starting another. January 26, 2009 at 3:45 pm in reply to: Marleen’s NO SPOILERS ‘Recommend Me Old Who’ Thread. #89691 JamesTCParticipant Enjoy ‘The Sea Devils’, it is easily my favourite Master story. The Sea Devils are a fantastic villain too, far better than the Silurians if you ask me. Now to ‘State of Decay’! January 26, 2009 at 3:37 pm in reply to: best and worst of the rd novels ?? #89689 JamesTCParticipant Well ‘Backwards’ is more like three books in one, you have the ‘Backwards’ part of it, the alternative universe with Ace and the aganoids section. The backwards segmant was only a third of the book in the end, maybe a little more. I always thought the Red Dwarf film was a mix of ‘Infinity Welcomes Careful Drivers’ and the later part of ‘Backwards’ with the aganoids. Establish the setting and get Kryten on board then fight some simulants. January 26, 2009 at 2:48 pm in reply to: best and worst of the rd novels ?? #89687 JamesTCParticipant >Probably not, since Backwards was written by Rob Grant and the film was written by Doug Naylor. Yes put the synopsis of the Film is very similar to the latter part of ‘Backwards’, rogue simulants attack the last known human ship, Red Dwarf. January 26, 2009 at 2:29 pm in reply to: best and worst of the rd novels ?? #89685 JamesTCParticipant Wasn’t the Red Dwarf Film part based on ‘Backwards’, I’m sure it was set to include simulants. For me ‘Backwards’ is a bit confusing, it keeps veering of onto other directions and dimensions! In the end it is rewarding to keep reading though. January 26, 2009 at 2:17 pm in reply to: best and worst of the rd novels ?? #89682 JamesTCParticipant I prefer listining to the audios really. Chris Barrie brings the first two books to life. Craig Charles has a much harder job with the slobbering GELF filled ‘Last Human’ but still does a fantastic job. Rob Grant does a weird Ace Rimmer. January 26, 2009 at 2:03 pm in reply to: best and worst of the rd novels ?? #89679 JamesTCParticipant Try ‘Infinity Welcomes Careful Drivers’ next, it is closer to the TV show than any other, atleast the first few chapters. The last chapter though unlike Red Dwarf is bloody brilliant, I loved every bit of that book. January 26, 2009 at 1:24 pm in reply to: Marleen’s NO SPOILERS ‘Recommend Me Old Who’ Thread. #89676 JamesTCParticipant Just got ‘The E-Space’ trilogy. A whole three stories with Lalla, yum! January 26, 2009 at 1:23 pm in reply to: best and worst of the rd novels ?? #89674 JamesTCParticipant My favourite is ‘Infinity Welcomes Careful Drivers’ with ‘Backwards’ in second and ‘Better Than Life’ in third, ‘Last Human’ is in last, not to say I don’t like ‘Last Human’, I love it. All four books are brilliant and live up to the series. January 24, 2009 at 8:14 pm in reply to: New series of Red Dwarf on Channel 4? #89616 JamesTCParticipant It could be adding all its top ten shows figures together. January 24, 2009 at 7:35 pm in reply to: New series of Red Dwarf on Channel 4? #89612 JamesTCParticipant 250,000 for a repeat of a show made upwards of ten years ago is pretty good if you ask me. I think 1.5 million seems a good figure for the Red Dwarf specials, atleast the first one. January 24, 2009 at 7:13 pm in reply to: I had a dream…. #89609 JamesTCParticipant I had a dream that Red Dwarf IX started and I missed the start, upon watching I can remember the Cat, Lister, Kryten, Rimmer and Kochanski in full canaries outfit in an elevator, thats it. By any measure it is a good dream though. January 23, 2009 at 6:14 pm in reply to: how would you resolve the end to ” only the good …” #89526 JamesTCParticipant Is that a quote out of a BFA and if so which one? January 23, 2009 at 6:02 pm in reply to: how would you resolve the end to ” only the good …” #89520 JamesTCParticipant >Okay, but the fact that you have to come up with an explanation for a plot inconsistency doesn?t stop it being a plot inconsistency. Not saying it does, I just like everything neat and explained, I even worked out how the 8th Doctor is half human and the rest of them arn’t. I think I can explain this – >if there were genuinely different reasons for the two situations resolving themselves differently, then the show should have given them. The show wanted to leave the science territory of Series V and VI to a lesser extent. Kryten summed it up really, “Garbled, confusing and quite franky duller than an inflight magazine by air Belgium.” January 23, 2009 at 5:49 pm in reply to: how would you resolve the end to ” only the good …” #89513 JamesTCParticipant >if there were genuinely different reasons for the two situations resolving themselves differently, then the show should have given them. It doesn?t. All we have to go on is the explanation at the start : ?By killing us they killed themselves?. That establishes the rule – in Dwarf?s universe, it is not possible to kill a past version of yourself. Parallel universes be damned. The future Kennedy fades away after shooting himself – suggesting that he, just like the future Dwarf crew, no longer exists. So why are his actions still carried out? Well maybe the time line prefers to return to its original state (not without problems as are stated in ‘Tikka to Ride’, dimensional anomalies being created) so the JFK past and alternative future version existed as par of an anomalie meant to fix teh time line and the Dwarfers trying to fix JFK in time were swayed by the time line. I know my theories are becoming more and more crazy and outlandish. January 23, 2009 at 5:34 pm in reply to: how would you resolve the end to ” only the good …” #89510 JamesTCParticipant >The explanation could be as simple as ?those JFKs are both from parallel timelines?, which is a branch of science that Dwarf already has experience in dealing with. However, if you explain it away like that, you HAVE to say the same thing for the future crew killing the Dwarfers. You can?t have two different sets of rules for different scenarios – it breaks the narrative. Which I theorised in this segmant of a post above – “You could theorise that it creates an alternative dimension and so the fact that it is not the same dimension means he can kill himself quite easily because he is not the same man but we have the problem that in ?Out of Time? the future Dwarfers do not actually happen in the actual dimension so infact the regular crew were killed by an alternative future crew so the time lines would not have fixed themselves and the future selves would have went away happy in the knowledge that they killed their alternative past selves and are stuck like rats in space.” January 23, 2009 at 5:31 pm in reply to: The Spoilery Doctor Who Thread (The Next Doctor / Matt Smith casting) #89509 JamesTCParticipant I’m a big Colin Baker fan so Season 22 and 23 are favouritesof mine as well as BFA of course. January 23, 2009 at 5:26 pm in reply to: how would you resolve the end to ” only the good …” #89507 JamesTCParticipant >Yeah, but before that you replied to Karl?s question, which had been addressed to me, with something entirely different to the actual answer ;-) Oh I see that is higher up, sorry! January 23, 2009 at 5:22 pm in reply to: how would you resolve the end to ” only the good …” #89504 JamesTCParticipant >All well and good, but not in any way connected to the point I made. So in future I?ll answer for myself, cheers ;-) I was replying to a comment made by Almighty_crj. That is why I included this at the start – “>Well since we already know Red Dwarf uses the theory that every probability (or decision) has a dimension, Then Lister could have been talking to the Kennedy from the dimension that Oswald failed to kill on the correct angle with no influence from the dwarfers at all.” January 23, 2009 at 5:18 pm in reply to: New series of Red Dwarf on Channel 4? #89501 JamesTCParticipant >>?Marooned? with four characters? Isn?t that ?Duct Soup?? >Actually that one did drag in places, although it was better in rewatches. Some very funny scenes in there though. I don’t think ‘Duct Soup’ dragged on, infact I think the X-tended version was much better. I liked it because it was more of a character study than a plotted piece which is good now and again for TV shows. January 23, 2009 at 5:15 pm in reply to: The Spoilery Doctor Who Thread (The Next Doctor / Matt Smith casting) #89500 JamesTCParticipant I have seen ‘The Happiness Patrol’ and I think it is a little underrated, not a classic story but a fun one, a story with a big sweety monster has to be good though. January 23, 2009 at 5:12 pm in reply to: how would you resolve the end to ” only the good …” #89499 JamesTCParticipant >Well since we already know Red Dwarf uses the theory that every probability (or decision) has a dimension, Then Lister could have been talking to the Kennedy from the dimension that Oswald failed to kill on the correct angle with no influence from the dwarfers at all. But the dimension where Kennedy was shot and the one where he wasn’t are one and the same just with altered time lines. You could theorise that it creates an alternative dimension and so the fact that it is not the same dimension means he can kill himself quite easily because he is not the same man but we have the problem that in ‘Out of Time’ the future Dwarfers do not actually happen in the actual dimension so infact the regular crew were killed by an alternative future crew so the time lines would not have fixed themselves and the future selves would have went away happy in the knowledge that they killed their alternative past selves and are stuck like rats in space. January 23, 2009 at 5:03 pm in reply to: The Spoilery Doctor Who Thread (The Next Doctor / Matt Smith casting) #89493 JamesTCParticipant ‘Delta and the Bannermen’ is not a story I am familiar with outside of it being in season 24, is being the next released Doc 7 DVD and having Ken Dodd in, what is it about? January 23, 2009 at 4:56 pm in reply to: Dave Website updates #89489 JamesTCParticipant >>what show is this? >A show better than that show, that?s for sure. Red Dwarf is better than [insert any show ever made apart from Red Dwarf] too. January 23, 2009 at 4:41 pm in reply to: The Spoilery Doctor Who Thread (The Next Doctor / Matt Smith casting) #89486 JamesTCParticipant I don’t find Ricky Gervais funny but I would prefer him, he annoys me alot less than Lee Evans. January 23, 2009 at 4:18 pm in reply to: The Spoilery Doctor Who Thread (The Next Doctor / Matt Smith casting) #89481 JamesTCParticipant >Lee Evans will play a character called Malcolm? Which means I will not be watching that on original broadcast, I will probably watch one of the new Red Dwarf specials several times while its on. When I do get around to watching it I will be doing something else at the same time so I can ignore Lee Evans while he is on screen. January 23, 2009 at 3:50 pm in reply to: how would you resolve the end to ” only the good …” #89478 JamesTCParticipant >> Unfortunately, by virtue of the spiel at the beginning of the episode, Dwarf chose the one that means that the Kennedy sequence can?t actually have happened. > Could you explain this to me simple enough that Lister could understand it, because my hand is up and I haven?t got the slightest clue what you?re blathering about. At the start of Series VII time was reversed to the point before the paradox with the crews future selves were fought giving the gang the oppurtunity to not become their future selves. If this applied to ‘Tikka to Ride’ then when they pushed Oswald out of the window time should have returned to the point before they pushed him out of the window so they can avoid pushing him out of the window and christmas can be saved! January 23, 2009 at 3:46 pm in reply to: Dave Website updates #89477 JamesTCParticipant I have always looked at is as trapped in deep space and he has to fight the Vidians and the Borg to get home, wait, oh no, I’m thinking of Voyager, what show is this? January 23, 2009 at 3:06 pm in reply to: Dave Website updates #89472 JamesTCParticipant Oh, erm, well you see, erm, I, erm, oh.
