Actually watched it this week and what was a great one this week. like Father Ted, series 3 seems to be the shows peek, bar the theatre episoe from series 2, fingers crossed bad luck won’t strike down this show in its prime.

fear not, i’m sure dvd will be our for xmas ’09. let’s just hope we get a few reports from the audience once they start recording the shows, unless they are being sot like series VII, that way they would avoid audience leaks.

It would be nice if they used the remastered opening theme, so we get a few cues from the series 1-2 opening and then full force in to series 3+ theme. that is one of the good things to come from Remastered project.

the best sequel is easy, Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan (ducks or the cover once more) but it shows how a good story can be told, with an average budget.
Back To The Future, Part 2 is also a good film, though it does pack to much in to a short running time, it’s deserves a longer Director’s Cut, so that the pace can be fixed.

Funny that they use the word ‘played’ instead of ‘plays’, don’t BBC News know Red Dwarf is returning to TV??

Not really, if they did some thing new, we would end up waiting for the odd nod to ‘Dwarf, like the use of Smeg or Danny throwing in a bit of Cat for example.

Sad to hear they didn’t win, but nice to know that they got Nominated at least. it’s always nice to hear that members of the RD family are doing well.

There’s nothing on eBay or Abe Books, what time frame does does this book relate to? does it cover series I-VI or was it quite an early publication?

You know I find the last sentance very cryptic..

    >The show is unlikely to feature any further Red Dwarf rumours, but you should watch closely, just to be sure.

what if we have the Dave idea wrong? what if BBC worldwide are making Red Dwarf for Five? the idea’s completely out of left field, but if Five were to announce that “you can see Robert again very soon on Five in Red Dwarf” then it would surely be in a continuity annoucement after the end of this series. I hope this theory is wrong, but it would mean any 1 hour special would be 45 minutes long, due to adverts and easy to sell to the US , as it would be their set running time and feature advert breaks.

    >Four words: Indiana. Jones. Four. Shit.

I didn’t get around to seeing this on the big screen, seemms I didn’t miss anything! I must admit i’ve also got a bad feeling about Lethal Weapon 5, i’ve totally given up all hope for Star Trek XI. seeing Simon Pegg as Scotty, is enough to make a fan cry.

I think Hollister is easily the best ‘secondary’ character from VIII and it would be great if Doug could work him in to the team. may be the crew could revolt against Hollister and the team could pick him up. with out the main crew, Hollister has to become part of the team and realizes (like he did in BiTR pt3) that the team are not bad and finds it easy not having 1,649 people under his command. it would be great to see Rimmer’s reaction to Hollister joining the team.

ahh BTTF Part II (gets misty eyed) the first sequel I really got excited about. good story, if you avoid the first part of the 2015 segment, it’s not til Biff goes from weak Gramps back to his old self when he finds out about the Almanac that things get going. the whole alt 1985 is a great twist and the grunge feel of the set works great. when they return to 1955 it’s then that the sequql delivers, with loads of great call backs. overall this is a good part of the trilogy and it doesn’t fail to deliver set pieces, some thing that was lacking in Part III. okay we had the Train at the end, but overall it was more story, like Part I and that’s not a bad thing, but a sequel in most cases is usually more actin packed than any first film. I Agree on Claudia she was 100% better than poor Elizabeth, who didn’t look any thing like Claudia.

You know that’s a damn good point, but remember that after the Radiation leak killed the crew Rimmer blamed himself…okay Lister initially (see The End) but afterwards he blames himself, that’s why the Justice computer sentenced Rimmer for the death of the crew, because he blamed himself for their deaths. I think that as Rimmer is conniving and always looking ever upwards, he would not purposely plan to let people die (in his series 1 persona).

yeha I spotted that yesterday, though I was watching the 2 parter with Commentary track on. boy she must have been really hungry. a possible reason could be that because they reshot Cat being attacked by Baxter. i’ll have to watch the original version and see if she is behind Kryten and Kochanski then. most probably they called her back for the reshoot and forgot that she had aleady had her food, either that or she was very hungry!

I prefer the remastered version of the observation dome, as it matches the Domes on the CG ‘Dwarf. Your take on a film theme is good, the repeat of the opening sections, certainly makes it feel darker. I was just waiting for it to kick in to the series III theme, ala the Remasterd series opening.

    >I only really liked the return of the old transitional music in the background when Red Dwarf was passing by.

I agree, that really was a nice touch and a nice throw back to series 1. also some of the CG shots (even though they are the same ones they used for Remastered series) look ten times sharper, the opening fly-by at the beginning of Krytie TV springs to mind and the overhead shot just before Ackerman whinges about some stealing his eye, is also good. though the Original models, still capture more detail.

oooh trifle, wait what flavour is it?

I’m Chris, I first started watching Red Dwarf in ’95 when I was 14. I watched with joy when Series VII started and wept at the end of Stoke Me A Clipper, even though I knew Rimmer would return. I’m a fan Doctor Who, The Thick of It and Torchwood to name but a few. I’m often found online, visiting message boards and trauling eBay for hidden gems.

After watching the Series VIII deleted scenes, I can’t help but think that a one hour opener/two part story would have been better. it would have meant we would have had a second visit to the original bunkroom, when Rimmmer goes on about looking through Starbug’s wreckage and Cat’s make up in the original shoot is much better.

in total there will be 4 Futurama straight to DVD movies, which have been made so that they are Blu-Ray ready, Yay! once all the movies are out, each movie will be cut in to 4 shows, this will then give Comedy Central 16 “new” shows to be broadcast on TV. the same thing was done with the Family Guy DVD movie.

Ace would be good if there was a second special, as it would see the return of the original Rimmer and it would be great to hear, how he fared as Ace. for this special it would be wise to play it safe and then do more backstory in a possoble second special. the reason I keep on mentioning a second special, is that last year’s return of The Royle Family was mean’t to be a one-ff (I think) but hasn’t Carloine written/writing a second special, to be broadcast this Christmas?

I really hope that after all this build up, it won’t go to Dave. Red Dwarf and adverts are a horrible mix and totally ruin the show. the special(s) should air on the BBC, that is the shows natural home, the thought of new material being farmed out to Dave, makes me feel sick. what about the Fan’s who don’t have Freeview/FreeSat, how are they going to watch it? personally i’d like a special shown on either BBC2 or BBC1, with a Doctor Who stlye Confidential on BBC3 shortly after.
