I say that with the best intentions. How I convey that, I don’t know… Winky smiley face? With the right casting I think Red Dwarf could continue. But given that the signs of nepotism have already been seen, are we not more likely to get all their sons playing their parts? How bad would that be? Anyone see that thing with Sid Mayall and Red Richardson? I do worry about their age though. It’s going to look like Steptoe and Steptoe in Space. September 22, 2014 at 9:57 pm in reply to: Cliche #210607 Taiwan TonyParticipant I like this idea but I thought Cappsy had already written a detailed breakdown of every episode. I remember it being every sketch, but I could be wrong. I didn’t like Cliche much. I thought Son Of was much funnier. June 10, 2014 at 12:19 pm in reply to: RIP Rik Mayall. #210276 Taiwan TonyParticipant MANI506 – Did you get your Bottom out? On that note, the episode “Bottom’s Out” was one of my favourites. Starring Rupert “Occasionally Pops Up In Red Dwarf” Bates as the flasher. (Bates was also in Burglary as the burglar with the cosh.) And Robert Llewellyn is in Parade. So – indirectly related, perhaps. What a horrible day. Poor Rik. Terrible news. April 18, 2014 at 11:17 pm in reply to: RD petition #210088 Taiwan TonyParticipant Good to see the BBC responding though. Given that Series XI is a way off and there hasn’t been a Dwarfcast for a while, would this be a good place to posit for best clips? I always liked the tarantula/Kryten’s hand in the boxers bit at the computer. I mean, I like the bit where they say ‘smeg’ as well… October 1, 2013 at 10:28 am in reply to: A Bit Of a Chat with Ken Plume & Doug Naylor #209323 Taiwan TonyParticipant I only just listened to this. It was a good interview, cheers for posting. I couldn’t be bothered to listen to the Duke of Manchester story again so I think I missed the thing about the fonts. But I heard the bit about Richard. It ended quite abruptly didn’t it – as if Doug was a bit pissed off. Or he did just have a meeting. Doug mentioned he had loads of story ideas (I think it might have been 20 or 30). So I’m hoping the ideas too expensive to produce might make a new book. That’d be nice. March 13, 2013 at 2:40 pm in reply to: One of us? #206678 Taiwan TonyParticipant The thing is, I *can* fuck any woman I want… (clutches rag of chloroform tighter) What I’d do is, I’d fuck Joe Perry. Which would hopefully make touring awkward. February 19, 2013 at 3:34 pm in reply to: Hawks…Tony Hawks. #206423 Taiwan TonyParticipant >So easy to get those dudes mixed up. It is… Sorry, who are we talking about? Ted Danson and Herman Munster? February 14, 2013 at 8:54 am in reply to: Extended Blackadder II Theme #206234 Taiwan TonyParticipant It takes me right back to my wedding night…. (ouch) February 8, 2013 at 9:18 am in reply to: Death in Paradise! #206131 Taiwan TonyParticipant > I was trying to use… synecdoche? Metonymy? Something like that. :) Hello Hello(Mabel). A point well made. (Just to clarify, I was continuing with PP3s literal interpretation to do a joke. A joke about me sounding racist… ) I also agree. America have a ton of outstanding black police officers. Alex Cross is African American, isn’t he? Then there’s my favourite example: Frank Pembleton in Homicide. The best character in Homicide by a mile. (His boss, G, is black too… As is G’s boss, the deputy commissioner who wore a white hat and medals.) The UK doesn’t have anything to compete with that. February 7, 2013 at 4:10 pm in reply to: Death in Paradise! #206122 Taiwan TonyParticipant >>Or has there ever been a black Sherlock Holmes or Poirot? >A bit of a stretch considering the *usual* time period of adaptations of both. Also, they were written as white characters originally, weren’t they? Isn’t that like asking if there’s ever been a white Shaft or Oh no I sound racist. >I have never seen Danny in anything but RD! You should check out his work as Barrington… It is legendary. February 2, 2013 at 1:44 pm in reply to: SON OF CLICHÉ ALERT #206029 Taiwan TonyParticipant Hmmm. I could have sworn it was on here – around late 2010 time. Unless I saw the Wrinkles / Wally Who archive at a similar time as I borrowed Cliche off a mate and have, sort of, got confused… (oh). It’s a good show though, isn’t it. The Son Of. January 31, 2013 at 5:12 pm in reply to: SON OF CLICHÉ ALERT #205994 Taiwan TonyParticipant Wasn’t Son of Cliche available on the download section on this site once? What happened there, then? January 25, 2013 at 4:18 pm in reply to: Alex's Bottom #205934 Taiwan TonyParticipant I loved Black Canary. Hannah Gordon killing herself shit me up. And when the blade comes down always makes me jump. I probably like this one the best, but I think they’re all really good. >I really don’t get what Renwick is trying to do with Joey I think I might know what Renwick is doing with Joey. I think he’s a dirty bastard who likes to see some ‘tit’ now and again. It’s in all his work. (And he’s directed the later ones himself.) I’ll never forget the scene in Love Soup where that girl’s fucked by a Golden Retriever. Shame that Rik Mayall doesn’t do much any more. I think he’s one of Britain’s best actors who are also brilliant at comedy… Like Ronnie Barker and David Jason. January 23, 2013 at 9:23 am in reply to: Alex's Bottom #205906 Taiwan TonyParticipant >I’ve only watched a couple of episodes of The Young Ones and really didn’t like it. I didn’t think you’d like it. I do feel validated. Thanks! If I had to recommend an episode of TYO to any non-fan, I’d suggest they try Cash and Nasty. Possibly Sick. I think they hang together the best. But then I might be completely wrong about that. >The stage shows were also good fun… well, the first three anyway. You fucking well hit the clit right on the nail there, you etc. etc. January 22, 2013 at 2:06 pm in reply to: Alex's Bottom #205894 Taiwan TonyParticipant That joke was sort of in the Young Ones too. Except in the Young Ones the film was called ‘They Ended Up Having To Eat Each Other’. A case in point perhaps? Bottom is brilliant. The line from that episode that always whirls around in my head is: “You pick it up. It’s a bit near the shit for me.” January 22, 2013 at 1:52 pm in reply to: TMWRNJ live recording 1998 #205893 Taiwan TonyParticipant ‘Egg-reed’. (Agreed) January 22, 2013 at 9:03 am in reply to: TMWRNJ live recording 1998 #205888 Taiwan TonyParticipant Did anyone hear or see the Pea Green Boat stage performance? It had great bits about his toilet breaking down, his plumber hating Eddie Grant, the nature of coincidence and so on. The Go Faster Stripe copy I got is much more condensed… It’d be good to hear a live recording of that. January 22, 2013 at 8:46 am in reply to: Alex's Bottom #205886 Taiwan TonyParticipant Puerile? Really? And the same fans cite The Young Ones as a good sitcom? … I’d say they’re both puerile, but I think Bottom has more sophistication, while The Young Ones has a charming naivety. Kind of. Bottom sometimes does lack focus, but I think that was sort of the point. Ade Edmondson has always talked about Beckett plays being a direct influence. It doesn’t stop me from enjoying them. Of the 3 series, I’d say that the third series was most like The Young Ones. Are you a fan of the Young Ones, Pete Part Three? Did anyone see this? The bit where they’re kicking the bloke at the end really reminded me of Rik and Ade laying into the gas man. http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/worldnews/europe/turkey/9813146/Fight-after-Turkish-politician-threatened-on-stage-with-gun.html (Still haven’t read it… Today I will!) January 21, 2013 at 4:40 pm in reply to: TMWRNJ live recording 1998 #205878 Taiwan TonyParticipant I met them after a Lee & Herring Live tour… must have been about 94/95. It was on the eve of my GCSEs. Anyway, Richard Herring and Kevin Eldon both seemed happy to chat to me and my friends. Stewart Lee was not, and instead he spent his time chatting to some young girls. They looked young to me. And I was 14/15. Classy, Stewart Lee. Classy. January 21, 2013 at 4:00 pm in reply to: Alex's Bottom #205877 Taiwan TonyParticipant I must admit I didn’t read this all… but I will do. Because I love Bottom. I like the fact that you’ve taken the time to write this, but I can’t quite get behind it as an argument or a call to arms or whatever it is meant to be… Because I don’t know that Bottom is overlooked. It was featured (on its own) on the titles to Britain’s Best Sitcom in 2004 – in between Fawlty Towers, and a composite of The Office, Absolutely Fabulous and Phoenix Nights. That’s quite high praise, isn’t it? Meanwhile, The Young Ones was probably the most important sitcom there had ever been up to that point, so it’s no wonder that it’s well remembered. Bottom is, essentially, Hancock’s Half Hour vs The Young Ones. But then you might say all this in the body of your article… I’ll have a proper read soon. January 21, 2013 at 10:10 am in reply to: Alex's Bottom #205872 Taiwan TonyParticipant “This has inspired me to watch the camping episode from series 2. Great set! Also this episode wasn’t originally shown for some reason.” There was a murder on Wimbledon Common at the time… The one that Colin Stagg was acquitted of. I agree about the ordering and the extended Holy… not as good. The BBC do some shit DVDs. Have you noticed on the Bottom series one DVD (episode: ‘Accident’, I think) the scene with the ‘thieving bastard gyppos’ has been edited to change the line to ‘thieving bastard yobbos’? And yet on the scene selection, the scene is called ‘thieving bastard gyppos’. Good work! “A solid number two.” Marvellous! January 17, 2013 at 11:46 am in reply to: HMV RIP #205842 Taiwan TonyParticipant I’m not particularly sad for HMV either. They were part of the trend that killed (or seriously wounded) independent music shops before them. And until the internet came along they were an absolute R.I.P. Off! (Rip off)… I’m not sad for the workers either… they could go out and become a stripper or something. Right Mr. Tebbit?! January 15, 2013 at 3:23 pm in reply to: First episode of Red Dwarf seen? #205813 Taiwan TonyParticipant Alright dudes. First ever memory of Dwarf: Marooned – maybe on a friend’s video… First full episode: (probably same as below) First episode ever seen on first broadcast: Holoship Age: 32 It’s fair to say I became a RD fan when the BBC started repeating the whole caboodle. Before then I was just a fan of BBC2 comedy. Mind you I was pretty hooked by Series VI… Author Replies Viewing 23 replies - 351 through 373 (of 373 total) 1 2 3 … 6 7 8
