I second that. It’s The Office in the 80’s. It’s the spirit of Kevin Turvey. And it’s closely followed by that Chekhov parody when Vyvyan smashes through the walls to their neighbour’s house. Great, invigorating writing.

I don’t like VI much either. Okay jokes that are very much “gags”. Looks sleek. But empty and insubstantial. Apart from Out Of Time, as International Debris says.
I do, however, give Tongue Tied a pass. Purely because I’ve had shit and weird dreams like that. As noted in a Red Dwarf dreams thread somewhere. I always thought it was purposefully odd, which I generally enjoy, rather than trying to be actual entertainment. If I’ve misinterpreted that, I’m pleased, because it doesn’t strike me as out of place. Unlike the shitty Rimmer songs in VII and Officer Rimmer.

It’s fair to say I watched Blackadder Goes Forth when I was too young. But the bit that particularly sailed over my head was the Flashheart outburst in Private Plane.

I even ‘performed’ it for my granddad. He burst out laughing (probably at the sight of a young twat), and I asked him what was funny about it.

Control usually falls to the director, ultimately, doesn’t it. And considering the early series had some stuff that Rob and Doug disliked, I’d venture the control went to the director. And producer. Same as most UK sitcoms now and then.

Johnny Vegas is shit in everything he has acted in (but is a great stand up).
Duct Soup is an okay episode. No worse than the rest of VII.

Bottom is littered with continuity errors. But as it feels and looks very different, series to series, we can say these are in different dimensions.

Re the “I’m not that pervy” line. I always assumed that Eddie had understood Richie to mean that he, Richie, liked inserting his feet into other people’s vaginas and anuses. But that’s me, a romantic.
