Dalek was brilliant, but slightly over-egged the “Daleks are invincible” angle…and was just an introductory story.

Parting of the Ways was also very good…

Didn’t like Doomsday much at all.

Evolution of the Daleks felt the most like an old-school Dalek story. Daleks being devious…working on some infernal contraption…the pig slaves were excellent – reminded me of the Orgrons…

30s New York was great…and reflected the Dalek design nicely… was exciting…flying Dalek attack on the Hooverville, Hugh Quarshie…

The hybrid was a bit naff…but still. Yep. My favourite of the new Dalek stories.

Not just you! One of my favourite Pertwee stories. So very very weird.

Anyone else like Day of the Daleks? I’m probably biased because it was only the second Doctor Who story I ever saw….but I adore it.

One of the novels suggests that the timelords reproduce asexually as they are above the whole domestic notion of sex / relationships….which I think suits them and the Doctor, really. The more you humanise him, the more ordinary he becomes.

Think it was the novel “Lungbarrow” that states that Susan isn’t actually his granddaughter.
However, whether the novels are canon is subject to intense, violent and bloody debate.

I’d say the Aztecs was probably a little bit hardcore for a fresh Whovian.

As far as classic stories are concerned, would probably start with The Caves of Androzani…City of Death….or Genesis of the Daleks.

Totally agree about the flashbacks. They’re particularly annoying when they happen in the middle of a tense / action-filled episode…and if they’re unrelated to the main story. I thought that we’d get one flashback for each character…which was an intrusive but necessary way of getting their back-story…but the bloody things never end.

Think the problem with Heroes isn’t a prolonged mystery…just a hugely prolonged story where nothing seems to happen.

Like I said….it feels like an origin story of an X-Men-style comic…which should last a couple of episodes before getting on with the real story.

Funny…I was never a fan of season 1 of the simpsons but caught one on telly the other day…

And it’s a very different show but very good. Compared to later seasons it’s a pretty straightforward comedy…nowhere near as mulit-layered. But it has lovely character stuff and it’s surprisingly bleak / dark in places.

Is possible….maybe it was a non-vital part of the ship..and there was an amazingly small chance that if incorrectly repared, it could be dangerous.

So they took the chance….Rimmer repaired it incorrectly…and against all odds it caused a Cadmium leak.

Thusly, Rimmer blamed himself for it….though in reality it was a hugely unlucky fluke – and if anyone was to blame, it was whoever gave him the job to do.

Just didn’t like them as much as everyone else. “Comedy” dialogue was clunky…setting was unconvincing at times…all the “dancing” metaphors were heavy-handed…have issues with the monster but avoiding spoilers! Could’ve been better.

The resolution / reveal was clever, though.

Is it possible that the Lister of series 1 and 2 DID date Kochanski for a bit…err…stopping short of full sex, but arsed about Lisa Yates-style and got dumped by her…

…then quickly realising that he is in love with her and without his own direction in life, joins the space corps and gets a place on her ship…and spends his days pining, planning how he’s going to get back with her….(of course he would never admit to Rimmer that this is why he’s there.)

But he doesn’t know how to do it. He’s awkward around her and hardly speaks to her…and then she dies before he can win her back and exercise his romantic plan.

Bollocks…but possible? Can’t think of anything that would contradict it.
