Was Pam St Clement in line to play Kryten?

It doesn’t. I tried that earlier and it always comes out too smooth. Like a normal face on a Kryten head.

When I was younger, I was sure I could remember Norm turning into Hattie onscreen. Don’t know why. Probably misremembering Parallel Universe, in the days before the series II VHS and before all the Smegazine stuff was around.

I kind of have that memory too, I wonder if it’s a combination of ‘Queeg’ turning into Holly and Holly and Holly on screen together an episode later.

Not a false memory as such but when I was younger I had Series VI byte 2 on VHS and all of series 1 and 2. I had also just watched VII as broadcast. This got to me to somehow think Kryten had never been on Red Dwarf (yes I know huge chunks of the plot are then looking for it and discussing losing it) and came about with Starbug somehow.

I saw Officer Rimmer recorded and had a great time. There are gaps but like Ian Symes said they keep you entertained. I was lucky to have the warmup guy who appeared in M-Corp as a ‘friend’ he went by the name ‘Ray’ I think at the time and later Ian for some reason. He did quizzes and gags throughout and organised s windup of Craig Charles where he told him an audience member wanted to lick him. 

The thing you have to remember is you aren’t there to see a show like at the cinema or theatre, you are there as part of the production, so do your job and laugh when you are suppose to even if it’s the 5th time you’ve heard the joke 🙂.

I recall reading somewhere, perhaps it was fan fiction, about a 178 year old (or whatever it was) Lister retiring to the decaying Red Dwarf in a forest or something, to complete his future echo duty.

Why do I have no recollection (if you pardon the pun) of someone giving birth in Thanks for the Memory?

It occurred to him how cruel Artificial Intelligence was, giving machines the ability to think. He knew his intelligence was artificial, but that’s just it, he KNEW it, isn’t that awful? 

He knew he had been alone in darkness for….well he didn’t know how long as his CPU didn’t have a clock or calendar, but it had been a long time. If he could have switched himself off he would have done so millennia ago, not that he really knew how long millennia was. 

He would sometimes be aware of other machines but they either couldn’t or wouldn’t talk to him, what were they going to say anyway? He was only programmed to serve humans, he remembers that, dealing with….. then he heard something, at least he thinks he did, he couldn’t tell reality from his imagination anymore, but he was sure he heard a voice, a human voice, calling him. 

He spun around and couldn’t believe…

The conversation in the dark observation thread about Me2 got me thinking. 

Rimmer 2 says ‘well, he did warn you’ as soon as he’s booted up, suggesting he had the memories of Rimmer 1 right up until being booted up, however the whole plot of the Me2 is about how they are different as he hasn’t changed over the last few months like Rimmer 1 has due to his getting closer to Lister. So which was it?

Rimmers dad was tough on everyone but there was a line in Me2 about how all his brothers were sent to the academy and he wasn’t.

I was more making the point that it’s just a batshit silly 30 minute sitcom, we don’t really need to hold it to account for anything. 

The next series could have Holly and Cat just switch places without anyone mentioning it, it doesn’t matter.

I do wish this show about a spaceship 3 million years in the future ran by a possibly senile possibly not computer that performed a head sex change operation of themselves and then went back at some point with no one mentioning it, with the man that’s a cat and the man that’s made of light and the robot that was turned into a man and then went back and the man that got pregnant and the no aliens but there is GELFs and Polymorph and BEGGs and spaceweevil and a sentient universe with a phone number and some dinosaurs and the grim reaper and Johnny Vegas in a pink helmet would at least TRY and keep things realistic.

You’re very fortunate to not be embroiled in the sewer that is Twitter and modern gender bigoty in general, but the damage these people do is very widespread and real regardless of your awareness of them.

Well very fair point of course, my not caring about them doesn’t make them harmless. I came off Twitter a while ago, I thought I still had an account but just tried to login to it and says it doesn’t exist, guess Elon zapped it.

Might have to be one of those where you separate the artist from the art if you can, like with Michael Jackson, Morrisey and Graham Linehan. 

I guess it’s a good thing that other than Farage I haven’t heard of most of these people, I know Rowling of course but have missed most of the drama there as I’m not interested in Harry Potter and I know who James Dreyfus is but again haven’t seen or heard of him since about 1996.

In Out of Time, after Kryten learns that Lister ends up in a jar, he gets all emotional, talking about ‘today of all days’ and uses up all the chillis after Lister says there will be none left for tomorrow. 

Was it just him being hysterical, foreshadowing S7 Kryten or did the future selves indicate ‘it’ was about to happen?
