    Rimmer’s parents, his mum and fake dad (not Dungo/Dougie), what are their names?

    Parallel Universe is an obvious one. (Assuming Queeg is too obvious to count)

    I don’t like how unpopular this is, and I think I mentioned it before, but I’d like to see Kochanski back in the next show (series, special whatever). Chloe Annett version.

    I meant don’t know how unpopular this is

    Yep, he in fact made it ‘back to earth’ several times, including to his local pub. It is what it is, most things in Red Dwarf are better if you don’t think about them too much.

    Jacob Rees-Mogg is actually a highly intelligent and perceptive man who would make a great leader of this country.

    Playing round with the ChatGPT malarkey I asked it to do a story about Lister going missing. Sadly it didn’t come up with anything good so I haven’t posted it however there was one interesting line from Rimmer along the lines of ‘We’re just glad to have you back old boy’.

    It made me wonder about an ‘inbetween’ Ace/Arnold Rimmer, one who progressed from the original but not as far as Ace. Maybe he could be an idea for a spin-off character, a bit like the Navigation officer married to McGruder in Skipper.

    Despite not being aboard Red Dwarf, Rimmer and Lister were still ‘together’ in the ‘Ace/Spanner’s’ Dimension.

    A few thoughts occur

    1. That’s nice

    2. I wonder if they did both start off on RD, hence how they knew each other.

    3. Either way it’s some destiny shizz.

    Ha. I’ll try to put it into context as best I remember.

    It was the opening scene, Lister had forgotten to do the MOT on the Ramscope, he and Rimmer were arguing about it, Rimsy saying he should have made a to-do list last week (I think this is referenced in the final scene) and Lister said something like ‘I didn’t know you were going to ask me to do it then’ which is what he requested a bigger laugh for.

    I think the phrase ‘each to their own’ comes to mind when a reaction is weird, as shown by this thread.

    One thing you have to remember is the studio audience is given instruction and direction. When I saw Officer Rimmer recorded Craig Charles asked for a bigger laugh on a line that simply wasn’t a gag, it was mid-bicker with Rimmer. The whole sequence was binned in the end anyway.

    I’ve definitely read Thad about Mugs more than once, and the stuff about Hollys inner workings sounds familiar.

    I know they originally wanted Rimmer black and white like in Promised Land.

    Well I promised I wouldn’t get carried away by the joint-statement. I asked ChatGPT to write a fictional conversation between Rob and Doug. That’s all I said, they could have spoke about the weather.

    Rob Grant and Doug Naylor were the co-creators of the science fiction comedy series “Red Dwarf.” Here’s a fictional conversation between the two:

    Rob: Hey Doug, it’s been a while. How have you been?

    Doug: I’ve been good, thanks. How about you?

    Rob: Can’t complain. So, have you seen any good sci-fi shows lately?

    Doug: Actually, I’ve been re-watching “Red Dwarf” to get inspired for our next project.

    Rob: Speaking of which, I had an idea for a spinoff show.

    Doug: Really? Tell me more.

    Rob: Well, you know how the ship has a whole bunch of maintenance robots running around?

    Doug: Yeah, the ones that always seem to be malfunctioning and causing trouble.

    Rob: Exactly. I was thinking we could do a show about the robots and their own adventures on the ship.

    Doug: I like it. It would be a great way to explore some of the more technical aspects of the “Red Dwarf” universe.

    Rob: And we could bring back some of the fan-favorite robots like Kryten and Talkie Toaster.

    Doug: That’s a great idea. We could even introduce some new robots and give them their own unique quirks and personalities.

    Rob: Exactly. And we could have a different human guest star on each episode to mix things up.

    Doug: I think you’re onto something here. Let’s pitch it to the network and see if they’re interested.

    Rob: Sounds like a plan. It would be great to work on another “Red Dwarf” project with you.

    Doug: Agreed. It’s been too long since we’ve had a chance to collaborate.

    I wonder why everywhere the dwarfers go, gravity is about the same as on earth. Every crashed/derelict vessel, even those underwater, every planet, every space station.

    Maybe they only go places where gravity is at or about the same as earth? Trusty old Psi-scan. Though sometimes they are flung places without intending to be. Maybe they go places with different levels of gravity all the time but this happens off screen.

    In Better Than Life the Cat starts licking Tony Hawks after he brings the fish and says ‘I always do this when someone gives me food’

    Who has been giving him food? He didn’t mean Lister as he was surprised to see it, also he didn’t do it when he gave him the Krispies, not Rimmer as he was a soft-light Hologram, maybe Kryten during his visit but who else? The Cat Priest? Other cats before they left?

    My very important thoughts.

    Chris Barrie is great, I don’t like these website updates but I think he’s more of a conspiracy nut than an anti-Semite.

    David Baddiel is ok, Three Lions was great, any subsequent re-releases have been rubbish.

    Jeremy Corbyn has good and bad points, I can understand a Jewish man being critical of him.

    Didn’t we do this already?

    The End = Radiation Leak
    Me2 = Rimmers
    The Last Day = Hudzen
    DNA = Polaroid Head
    Demons and Angels = Triple Threat
    Emohawk-Polymorph II = Mrs Lister
    Blue = The Rimmer Experience
    Back in the Red Part 3 = FFS it’s still going? What sort of sitcom series opens up with a 3 parter? The payoff is a callback to one line from Rimmer in the first scene, about an hour and a half of program ago.
    Back to Earth = Earth 2009
    Dear Dave = Charades
    Can of Worms = Pipe Dream
    Timewave = Critical
    The Promised Land = Red Dwarf 13, The Cat People.

    There you go, one from each series, some serious, some not.

    At the captains dinner in BITR Part 2 did Hollister inform everyone about a change of dress code after he realised Rimmer didn’t understand what ‘black tie’ meant?

    Would second techs likely have Tuxedos or board anyway? Maybe they could rent them.

    I’ve probably watched the episodes from Series 1 more than any other. I had both ‘Bytes’ on VHS from a very young age, pre-remastered. it wouldn’t be ridiculous to guess I’ve watched them all 30 times or more over the years. I’ve just now noticed, after this corridor chat that they reuse Holly’s ‘emergency, there’s an emergency going on…’ line from Confidence and Paranoia for the death video in Me2 the very next episode. The obvious in universe explanation is that it was a standard pre-recorded message but odd that I never noticed.

      typo in the subtitle itself that I missed when editing.

    Ah, funny that you should stumble into a typo too. After the debatable “mommy”/””mummy” instance, I also got “I wonder they call it “Mayday”” just now.

    The subtitle probably should say ‘mayday’ to start with, considering that’s what Rimmer was saying.
