That’s how I got together with my husband! I sent a text saying ‘I think he fancies me’ to him directly rather than a friend!!

Demon Headmaster was much better in book form methinks but I did enjoy the TV show. I used to love Knightmare (remember that one boys and girls?) and Maid Marian and her Merry Men (which I’m ashamed to say, even though I watched Red Dwarf as a kid too, I didn’t recognise Danny JJ in the dreads!) Woof! indeed was fab.

I remember watching The Simpsons back in ’91/’92 when it only used to be shown on a Sunday evening on Sky One at 6pm, two episodes. I couldn’t fall asleep that night as me any my little brothers kept singing ‘Do the Bartman!’

Happy Birthday RD, you old git.

I first watched Red Dwarf in 1991 – there were some repeats of series 3 or 4 on (it was definitely a bunk scene with Rimmer in those awful green braces!) and I remember being 6 years old and watching it on an old, tiny black and white TV my grandad had passed on to me.

Seb – loving the avatar. Who drew you that?

    > Well having been watching it genuinely for as long as I can remember, every line of those 3 series is now hardwired into my brain, so whenever anyone mentions Emmerdale Farm that?s always the first thing that comes to mind.

    Ditto. I love that show

    > Kryten?s got no nose.

Indeed – I think it mentions it in one of the guidebooks that they’d finished filming for the day and he’d started pulling off the mask when they told them they had to film this. They just dabbed it with a bit of red make up to look like a ‘red nose’ and probably hoped nobody would notice.

    > How does he smell?

Oh, I’m sorry. Awful! Boom boom!

I was so excited to see Gordon the Gopher and Ed the Duck. Mind you, I was 8 years old when this came out….

YES! SO many happy years in the early 90s were spent playing Sonic 1, 2, 3 and Sonic & Knuckles with my little brother. Very glad they’re going back to the popular stuff and ditching the crappy characters. I mean, Big the Cat for fucks sake? Srsly?

I echo Cappsy’s comments though, his running is very odd looking…

    > Also a major switcheroo in tone considering the comedy a the start of that scene. Correcting a piece of insulting graffiti. Heh.

That did make me laugh – strange how it can shift in mere minutes from making you laugh to making you uncomfortable. But Tovey is such a good actor the whole shift from panicked to angry and violent was done really well – you really feel something is of the Wrong.

His official site also has him commenting on the new series:

“From what I hear we are still on target to make some new episodes of Red Dwarf in 2010.”

“there is talk of as many as six new episodes in 2010. If they happen, collectively they will probably go down as series 9.”

Oh my gosh, so nobody can agree on series numbering – why does this plight all of our favourite shows?! I’m going to stop there before various G&T members fall into boredom-induced comas.

Another good episode – it’s really building and building. Anyone know how many episodes we have? 6 or 8?

Anywho, poor George! Trying to control the wolf and look where it’s got him! I wonder how he’s going to diffuse the uncontrollable angry bursts he’s experiencing. The way he beat that manager down was pretty gruesome – found it a bit difficult to watch.

    *SPOILERS!*

Sorry but got to say – who else saw the ‘twist’ on Lucy/Professor Jaggat’s character? I have to admit, I only spotted it during episode three. Kiran (Fluffy Wok) was musing aloud about her dubious interest and knowledge on vampires. When the end reveal came he leapt up, pointing in accusation and shouting “I FUCKING knew it!”

    Did make me giggle.

Although the characterisation has had a shaky start to resettle back to series 1 levels, I must say I’m loving the more epic feel to series 2 and its stories overall.

I did LOL at that one. And:

George: “You love him like a brother”? He’s “sweet”? What are you trying to do, kill the man? The only man you should ever say that to, is in fact your own brother.

Yes indeed, a very good episode. This series has such a grander, more epic feel to things. And poor Nina, looks like she’s fallen into the wrong hands. And Annie! NO!

    > Also, Big Train and his memorable appearance in I?m Alan Partridge all came before Spaced. Quite randomly, considering I thought very highly of Pegg, I only watched Spaced for the first time about a year ago.

His words, not mine. We were perhaps referring to the programmes where he was the main focus or co-writing in the earlier days, not every single entry on his IMDB page. Can’t stand those programmes anyways, although I did like The Day Today.

    > I?ve been a fan of Simon Pegg since I saw him in his school nativity play in 1976. He nailed the part of the Inn Keeper.

He was robbed for the Best Supporting Actor Oscar that year.

Gahh…I can’t remember. I was working with those bosses from April 2007 – July 2008 so it would have been somewhere in between there I guess.

    > I may love everything Simon Pegg has done (except for the Big Nothing which I can?t bring myself to watch for fear of it being terrible)

You MUST see the Big Nothing – it’s a fantastic film. A real thriller and keeps you guessing right up until the last 30 seconds of the film.

    > Simon Pegg and Nick Frost were giving a talk about Hot Fuzz and at the end Nick was handing out t-shirts and my mum ran up to him waving in his face and saying ?hellooooo? and he waved back in her face and went ?helloooooo?. I suffered from chronic fan meltdown and tried to say something to Simon Pegg but all I could do was shake his hand and tremble ?thank?you?. Since then I?ve lost a remarkable amount of respect for myself, I didn?t know I was such a weedy twat in front of celebrities I like.

I go rather eccentric in front of celebrities.

The time I met Simon Pegg and Nick Frost, I was drinking in a pub near Oxford Street on a random weekday lunchtime with my two bosses and we were literally the only three people in the pub. I went up to the bar to order drinks and a guy walked in and stood at the bar next to me – Simon Pegg. I totally squee-d, shook his hand and introduced myself and told him I was a big Spaced fan and I was glad he was doing so well. He looked rather bemused at first but smiled and said thanks for liking his stuff from the beginning as t’were. I went back to my table and he ordered a couple of drinks. Just as I was wondering ‘why two drinks?’ in walks Nick Frost! I raise my drink to him and he smiles and waves back and the pair settle into their drinks.

‘Do you know them?’ my boss asks.

GAH! Stooopid people annoy me. ^__^

    > This is true, actually. I think the problem wasn?t that it wasn?t credible for the character – like most things, I tend to think anyone is capable of almost anything given the right, horrible circumstances – it?s that we hadn?t been witness to that journey. So we?re coming in at the end of the story, which is a shame because I think it needed more delicate staggering to feel ?right?.

Good point. I think those that haven’t watched series 1 may not have ‘got’ their tempestuous relationship either – after all, George had to do a lot of fighting to get her in the first place. She was no pushover. But yeah, I think it needed a bit more of their ‘not getting on’ etc before he started snogging vampires, hehe.

    > Not sure George would be so easily lured into cheating – as the character I most closely identified with

I catch your drift – I thought it was down to the fact that George’s sexual/violent instincts are particularly bad before during and after his transformation? But I know what you mean, it did feel strange. Presumably in the month that had elapsed in between the two series, their relationship had deteriorated somewhat.

    > I watched the pilot but nothing of the first series. Would it be terribly dim of me to start watching series 2 now (Jo and Ian have seen 1 already) or do I need the first series?

    >It?s worth catching up on – and they?ve certainly started the new series with a stronger interest in continuing story – but you should be okay. Everything you need to know, which isn?t a great deal, is restated.

I agree, the first series was recapped rather well at the beginning of the episode I thought. But indeed, series 1 is very good and definitely worth a watch – especially for each of the character’s ‘origins’ episode.

Being Human is a fantastic show – I love the way it swings between comedy and black drama. Just as something is making you laugh, something really dark can leap in, and vice versa.
