    > My last boyfriend told me he liked Dwarf at first, but when he was getting bored of me and flirting with another girl in front of me who hated it, he said ?yeah, I think it?s shit!? so that was that! Bastard.

Double reason to punch the fucker out.

When I was pissed at a networking event, I was asking my rep at the Times if he liked Red Dwarf and said I would only do business with him if he did. He began throwing quotes at me so I’m pleased that he was a bona fide fan and not just after my budget

    > I?ve a few friends who run their own small businesses, and I wouldn?t thank you for it.
Of course there are those who make it big, but most small businessess involve working 24/7, few holidays, no sick pay, and a shed load of stress.

I worked at a small company (just three of us) for 18 months running a section of the business and I was very miserable.

So I utilised connections I’d built up with clients (in the mafia) and moved into an ad agency in media planning and buying – an area where it’s more about who you know not what you know in order to get in.

    > Use your degree to good use like everyone else this year and become a well-read shelf stacker.

Well it’s something I can always fall back on.

I really didn’t like the ending to ‘Mostly Harmless’ – in fact the whole book felt a bit too disjointed. I LOVED the first two though – fantastic.

“What do you do with a BA in English? What is my life going to be? Four years of college, and plenty of knowledge, have earned me this useless degree…”

I got my BA in English 3 years ago and am junior to people in my office who barely scraped together GCSEs but they’ve got so much knowledge, common sense and graft to them I can accept that.

(Apart from when they think that manga is a type of weed.)

But I worked my arse off to get this job in Advertising Land and I wouldn’t give it up right now for anything else.

I had a manager once who categorically told me that if I left to have a baby they couldn’t pay me maternity leave and that it would end the business. Unsurprisingly I quit that job.

Cornettos rock. You see Ed eating one in ‘Shaun of the Dead’ just after they’ve bludgeoned the zombies in their garden to death. Yum.

    > Given the nerdy nature of this corner of the internet, I think it?s sage to assume that most of us were bullied.

    Haha yeah probably very true.

    > I?m not even ginger (I wish I was).

Meh. We always covet what we don’t have I suppose!

By the way Jo, speaking of coveting something I don’t have, I went to buy the RD thong today and it’s ?4 for posting (when the garment itself is ?8.50 that is a bit ouch, hehe). Maybe I’ll have to wait for a richer payday next month!

    > (I bet those of you who were ginger didn?t have a fraction of the trouble once you left school, right? And if you did it was kids yelling.)

Indeed, I was bullied terribly as a kid and it made me very shy, but since college I haven’t had any trouble at all. In fact, now that I’ve joined the world of work where networking etc is essential, I’ve had to come out of my shell. I’ve found that men in particular seem to think (and this is direcly quotable) that because I have red hair I must be either better in bed or more up for affairs(?!)

Client: “Your hair is gorgeous. I love red hair, it’s very pretty”
    Me: “Thank you”
Client: “I once had a 3 month affair with a redhead”
    Me: “….”

    > I was actually turned down for a job at one point because of my hair and the guy even made a fairly tasteless ?gingernuts? joke during the interview.

That’s shit, sorry to hear that. My old boss admitted that he hired me *because* I was a redhead. I think women find it easier than men. Both of my brothers are redheads, but the older one wears it really well and got approached on Oxford Street by a model scout. Lucky sod.

Never laugh at a woman…dangerous hehe. But I know where she’s coming from. As you know, me and my husband were friends so he knew I had red hair, but just before DJ2002 I dyed it dark brown so I would ‘fit in’. So naive… Anywho, that’s the week we got together, and he admitted he much preferred me with red hair! D’oh!
