    > I do think however, that when it does end, while not leaving anything hanging, it should end with the crew just going about their usual day to day mishaps, not with some grand epilogue (reaching Earth, going back in time, Lister dying etc). I like the idea of Our intrepid band of Smegheads carrying on up there, even if we can’t see them.

Something like the end of ‘Back to Reality’ or ‘Back to Earth’ is what I am hoping for. If they did end the show at ‘Back to Reality’ (glad they didn’t!) it would have been a perfect end.

Of course I don’t want the show to end for a long while yet, the show has had a resurgence and I hope this means another 3 or 4 series at least, after having no hope of the show continuing through 2004-2008 I am now pumped with confidence of its continued success and continuation now.

    Oh not another one,
    http://www.bbcshop.com/science-fiction/red-dwarf-series-1-4-set/invt/reddwarfbundle/

The whole point was that these releases are separate versions of the Just The Show collections, bungling the new versions together makes no sense at all when the original collections are out there.

    >I like the colours… but if it’s Just The Show why are they a 12 when the VHSes were PG?

I expect that is just a place holder until the actual rating is confirmed. Series III, VI, VII and VIII are the only ones that should be 12, at least according to the BBFC.

They wouldn’t be releasing them if the previous releases weren’t big sellers. It is nice to know actually, that Dwarf makes such big business. Chimes well for the new series among other things.

Also I guess these new releases keep new Dwarf releases on the shelves till the new series (With the next 4 releases coming along soon I assume).

Still, bit surprised they don’t do either a best of collection or an entire collection with the versions with extras.

First DVD I bought was Red Dwarf 1 for an extortionate price of £22 or thereabout.

First Blu-Ray was my favourite film and my favourite TV show, so Terminator 2 and Red Dwarf: Back to Earth.

    >It’s obviously a joke, Danny taking the piss. Though there’s no way Lister would be recast, regardless of the situation. If Craig didn’t want to/couldn’t do it you might as well forget the whole thing OR write Lister out. The same applies with any of the four boys.

I thought the same thing but then again they have recast Kochanski (and with a woman who is very different).
I guess when concerning the new series of Dwarf I am prone to jumping to negative conclusions, I’m just worried it won’t happen especially since it has been very quiet since Craig made the announcement. Plus it was late at night and I couldn’t sleep ;)

I never said screen, I said on the episode, comics have episodes, audios have episodes, ‘Shada’ has 12 episodes including the TV version and audio.

Plus as I said before, Who has no canon in the prime sense of the word, nobody will ever agree on the canon, you’ll always have that one guy shouting “Paul McGann isn’t canon”. All you have is a personal continuity if you really care.

    >RTD confirms in The Writer?s Tale 2 : Electric Boogaloo that it is THE Rassilon, and that the Time Lords basically just brought back EVERYONE to fight in the Time War (including the Doctor?s mother).

Yeh but that wasn’t said on the episode.

    >So both Shada?s are canon? ;-)

Quite easily. Tom did ‘Shada’ and then the events of ‘The Five Doctors’ changed history and made the Paul McGann version of ‘Shada’ possible.

As for wether the audios and all that are canon well Who has no canon really. You come up with your own personal continuity.

Frankly ‘Zagreus’ having Rassilon killed doesn’t really effect the new series because the guy Tennant calls Rassilon is never actually confirmed as THE Rassilon and even if he is then the Time Lords could have just brought him back using the Matrix.

    >Haven?t heard MiH, since Radio 7 skipped it on their run-through the earlier 8th Doctor audios (which I didn?t take for a promising sign).

It was because it wasn’t suitable for the time it would air, not because it was crap.

I was thinking of both actually, ‘The Spectre Of Lanyon Moore’ is fucking fantastic. Wether you think it is canon or not it had that Doc meet the Brig, same with ‘Minuet in Hell’ for Paul McGann.

If they’re going to return any companion they need to return the Brig, only the 9th and 10th Doctors have never met him up to now (though the 10th was meant to in ‘The Wedding of Sarah Jane’ I think).

I think numbers mean alot more now then they did then though. Series 5 back then was just another 40 odd episodes and after they were out they fucked off onto a scrapheap (half of them anyway).
Today all the DVDs and Blu-Ray and ITunes and all that stuff, numbers have alot more meaning today, you can’t compare it to 1968.
Calling it Series 5 makes a newcomer think “I’ll have to watch Series 1, ahh I can’t be arsed” which is complete bollocks.
Calling it Series 1 makes a newcomer watch it thinking it is the first and enjoy it, then they’ll realise it is just the first in a new era of the show and go back from there.

Overall it may confuse a few fans and a few people may buy the wrong DVD by mistake but it will get more people to watch the show.

    >And American shows never have problems when they start running to season 5 and beyond, do they? Friends never lost popularity because people were put off by the even increasing season numbers.

I remember that episode of friends were the entire cast changed and the apartments were changed and the cafe was blown up. That was a good’un wasn’t it?

    >Unless he completely retracts the quote you posted, then I?m afraid it?s nothing other than complete nonsense, for the reason Pete has already pointed out.

The reason that Pete pointed out is not really the reason for calling it Series One, they had three choices, one of them being Series Five and it sounded, to the marketing department, to be an aging brand, another being Series One of Matt Smith’s series, another being Series Thirty-One, they picked the one that sounded new and exciting rather than the one whioch sounded like a show which was running out of steam (Series Five).

    >Do we know if Rob Shearman is likely to ever to get another shot?

I heard he written a script and it has been held over to Series Two. Oh and speaking of the numbering thing, I posted this on IMDB and GB so I’ll repost it here, this is from the Moffat interview in DWM417 –
“It’s Series Thirty-One of Doctor Who, and it’s Series One of Matt Smith’s Doctor, Those are both real numbers. I submit that ‘Series Five of Doctor Who’ means absolutely nothing unless you really believe that Matt Smith is the third Doctor. Everyone knows he’s the Eleventh Doctor so that means it’s definitely not ‘Series Five’. Whichever number you choose, ‘Series Five’ is the one that’s flawed.”

“‘Series One’ is an exciting sentence. ‘Series Thirty-One’ is an awe-inspiring sentence. ‘Series Five’ is a boring sentence – and also a complete lie”

    >The Doctor isn?t in charge of protecting the Earth 24/7. Sometimes they have to deal with their shit on their own

He has a time machine, he can’t be there 24/7 but he could go back to part of the 7. Frankly he has shown himself time and again to be the protector of earth even picking earth over his own planet. Doesn’t he make a comment about being the protector of earth in ‘The Christmas Invasion’ too?

But still Jack didn’t do anything that the Doctor wouldn’t have done. The Doctor would give up a life in favour of many lives (preferably his own but it can’t always work that way). Hell, the Doctor has done much worse, he has shoved his entire people into hell forever in the latest episode, much worse then killing a bus load of kids in favour of the entire planet (as happened in the past) and his own grandson.
If anything the Doctor should be making up to Jack for not helping and leaving Jack having to kill his grandson, Jack did what he had to do, he has nothing to be forgiven about.

    >Anyone know what became of the Stephen Fry-penned episode? Is it now lost for good?

Was written for Rose/Ten, they didn’t use it for various reasons, they attempted to remount it for Series 3 but Fry didn’t have time to do the re-writes to add Martha. I don’t think they tried to remount for Series 4.

    >Of course they could always cast Bonnie Langford as the companion.

Better yet they could dress Kate O’Mara as Bonnie Langford.

    >Mr. Davies? comments on Confidential that The Doctor had forgiven Harkness can smeg off.

What exactly for? The Doctor wasn’t there during COE, he was off fucking the Queen so he hardly had anything to be angry about, last time they saw eachother they were flying the TARDIS together while some loud music played and then he dropped them off all in good terms. All I saw was the Doctor cheering up a friend who needed it, to add that spin on the scene takes something out of it.

    >Chris Barrie should be 12. It would be beautiful.

Troughton died alone sort of, he was sentanced to regeneration by the Time Lords so he was and he wasn’t alone, you’d have to watch it and decide yourself. McCoy regenerated after death inside a morgue alone.

Bob goes the shop, his wife killed him, he didn’t like the shop so he blew it up with a fork. His wife was still holding the fork though. His wife never existed. He attended the funeral for his dog the very next day as he should do.

Yeh, that story doesn’t make much sense but I left it all down to the reader to add their explanation to it, I mean I couldn’t possibly spoonfeed you everything can I? Now explain the story to make it good, you see it is actually the best works of fiction ever made, if you don’t see that you are just too stupid to not add good enough explanations to fix inconsistencies.

If an explanation that made sense existed it would have either been in there or it would have atleast been hinted at. It wasn’t, every problem with the story was just ignored so it is just lazy writing.

Wilf being the only guy not to be effected. The Time Lady being able to break through the time lock despite the fact that it is actually stated that they can’t get a message through so they have to send one through the Master in the past. The fact that they couldn’t send anything out of the time lock but then Rassilon throws the diamond at a hologram of earth and it finds its way there out of the time lock.
