June 14, 2008 at 4:43 pm in reply to: Red Dwarf: The Expanded Universe #81366 RidleyParticipant “Just the Comics” June 14, 2008 at 4:34 pm in reply to: Funny Stuff What You Done Found on The Interweb #81364 RidleyParticipant … June 12, 2008 at 10:41 pm in reply to: Red Dwarf: The Expanded Universe #81283 RidleyParticipant And I don?t quite know why the universe feels as fragile as it does. Because it’s also a sit-com? Fuck me – has THAT become canon?! (It?s Kill Crazy?s real name, for those who missed the Toaster piece. I had to Google to find out!) That would be the interesting continuity outside of Grant Naylor living on the website. ;) June 11, 2008 at 10:59 pm in reply to: Red Dwarf: The Expanded Universe #81214 RidleyParticipant Well, I think the official site could benefit from short fiction or more webstrips as a means for providing new material rather than long story arcs. It’d be nice to have some insight on elements in the show, like an unseen Canaries mission or Lister being pregnant but I wouldn’t want an entire Oswald Blenkinsop novel. Even though I would buy it because it was Red Dwarf. There’s interesting continuity outside of Grant Naylor living on the website. Shame there isn’t, as far as I know, a Red Dwarf equivalent of Star Wars’ Holocron. Certain near-canon exceptions to this, I suppose Not sure what you mean with “near-canon” in that regard Mr. Ellard. You seem to be suggesting Buffy Season 8 doesn’t count because it isn’t a TV series. Not that I’ve read it, I just know it’s intended to follow on and Whedon has a hand in it. Does Naylor have an opinion on Prelude to Nanarchy? …that you can tell us. June 10, 2008 at 11:04 am in reply to: Attention fictionists! (And everyone knows Nintendo hates Europe) It’s Tension Sheet: The Game Why didn’t the Dwarf site do that? June 1, 2008 at 1:14 am in reply to: The Doctor Who Spoilers Thread – Part II #80925 RidleyParticipant Your eyes can deceive you. Don’t trust them. May 30, 2008 at 12:47 pm in reply to: General questions about Last human. #80871 RidleyParticipant Then he can tell us what he really thinks of series VIII. May 30, 2008 at 12:43 pm in reply to: Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull #80870 RidleyParticipant He won’t care. May 30, 2008 at 12:32 pm in reply to: “The return of the real fake” #80869 RidleyParticipant It all depends on a certain point of view ;) May 29, 2008 at 2:38 am in reply to: The Doctor Who Spoilers Thread – Part II #80832 RidleyParticipant He’s better in anything that isn’t Doctor Who Official anyway. May 27, 2008 at 3:23 pm in reply to: Wanking off to that bit in Last Human where Lister and Kochanski have sex #80774 RidleyParticipant Is she… as good as me? May 27, 2008 at 10:01 am in reply to: And the award for most shameless recycling of old film props goes to… #80759 RidleyParticipant He’s the awesome one with the moustache/goatee combo And another one that doesn’t have enough facial hair. May 27, 2008 at 9:50 am in reply to: Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull #80758 RidleyParticipant Saw it yesterday. I rather enjoyed it and, aside from a few bits, it appeared like it could have been made 15 years ago which was a rather nice touch. Shame that Speilberg couldn?t have had an active role in the Star Wars prequels and taught Lucas how to recapture the good ol? days rather than reinventing the wheel. Well he did film that bit in Episode III. Don?t think that the presence of Aliens was such a stretch for this series (after the ghosties in the Ark and the immortal knights in Crusade) but, yes, as Monkey says Hurt?s line about the Alien?s true origins was awful. How the hell does he know anyway? Presumably told him when he looked into the eyes of the skull and went maaaaaaad … for an hour. Also: “You threw a monkey in the sea?” May 24, 2008 at 3:00 am in reply to: Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull #80645 RidleyParticipant I think LaBeouf comes across as likable in this too. And I’m not being sarcastic. May 24, 2008 at 12:45 am in reply to: Iron Man (spoilers) #80643 RidleyParticipant I liked it, despite being two hours I actually came away feeling it was, of all things, too short. Thought the main villain was an obvious one too. Not the character, the set up. I’d kinda hoped the terrorist thing would have went on till the end with an all out, knock down, drag out, robotsuit brawl. It did show how the less popular comic heroes should be done, like Blade did. Has there been backlash from the hardcore regular universe/616 fans on things like Jarvis? I’ve read that the Thor movie is going to be, or at least implied, to take place mostly in Asgard but I only want to see the Ultimate hippy/Jesus version :( May 24, 2008 at 12:18 am in reply to: Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull #80642 RidleyParticipant By how much? ;) The thing is, with the same ideas, I think they could have been done better. May 24, 2008 at 12:13 am in reply to: Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull #80495 RidleyParticipant Seems to have gotten mostly positive reviews. I’d link but some of these things have spoilers. Edit: So has anyone else seen this yet? While for the most part I liked it and have issues with some parts (namely the finale), I can see why some have and will be calling foul on Lucas/Spielberg. It isn’t much like the other three and there is some CGI that was completely unnecessary. Ooh if that green screen in the trailer annoyed you… ho boy. May 22, 2008 at 1:38 am in reply to: Funny Stuff What You Done Found on The Interweb #80591 RidleyParticipant May 22, 2008 at 1:04 am in reply to: Attention fictionists! (And…fictionettes.) #80588 RidleyParticipant Gah, I forgot all about it. How long will back issues live in a box? May 18, 2008 at 4:21 pm in reply to: Did you see Doctor Who? – Spoilers! #80470 RidleyParticipant Not the series, just that episode. It’s the combination of these over the top performances (with the last five minutes played straight) and references to how similar this is to what went before (Dickens, spiders) that just made it seem like you should have been embarrassed for having went along with those stories in the first place. May 18, 2008 at 3:01 am in reply to: Did you see Red Dwarf? – Spoilers! #80454 RidleyParticipant No, no, these are NEW appendixes. May 18, 2008 at 2:58 am in reply to: Did you see Doctor Who? – Spoilers! #80451 RidleyParticipant I thought that one was pretty dull overall actually. Not sure I can place what it was though, it just seemed a bit… samey. Ah (edit), I could compare it to the back end of “Espionage Escapes” (the first half wasn’t particular pleasant either but that’s another story) of Young Indiana Jones: Having a whole ‘comedic’ episode, that changes the usual tone of the series, intended in the style Franz Kafka doesn’t make the fact it’s an episode about someone installing a phone interesting or funny. This week’s episode was ultimately about a wasp who just wanted to be loved. And while the elements of the series were there it was done in a way that didn’t come across as self-mocking but laughed at you for having watched it. May 15, 2008 at 5:16 pm in reply to: Loldwarfs #80358 RidleyParticipant Someone; please enlighten me! Google lolcats. Don’t you need pictures for this? May 15, 2008 at 4:46 pm in reply to: Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull #80354 RidleyParticipant I bet he’s a woman that bloke. No, you think it’s the future but it’s actually set in the past. It’s not Earth. It’s all a dream. They’re all clones. He’s his own brother. Everyone’s a ghost. May 15, 2008 at 12:27 am in reply to: Did you see Doctor Who? – Spoilers! #80319 RidleyParticipant Brought back by the terraforming? How does that work? Harkness: “#I love a lady with a happy atmosphere” May 15, 2008 at 12:06 am in reply to: Ashes to Ashes #80318 RidleyParticipant I agree it was good, I disagree that it lost the point. I just think it had different, but equally valid, things to say. Just some. For example in regards to the stereo and Mark Wahlberg’s character being in the know so the ending is ‘clean’. And no duet from Damon and DiCaprio over the credits? Boo-urns. ;) Sing along! May 14, 2008 at 6:25 pm in reply to: Ashes to Ashes #80307 RidleyParticipant Jump Leads for one! Can do! May 14, 2008 at 6:13 pm in reply to: Ashes to Ashes #80305 RidleyParticipant Not all adaptations are bad. The Departed was a fine version of Infernal Affairs, I thought (even if some of the point was lost in the transition). May 14, 2008 at 5:56 pm in reply to: Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull #80304 RidleyParticipant Regarding the Doom debate, the ?darkness? of hearts being ripped out, Indy going bad, kids enslaved etc. all feels out of place in the middle of the comedy rollercoaster style of the rest of the movie. I believe it was actually made the other way round, with the comedy inserted balance the dark. I’ve read that the banquet scene was supposed to be a joke whereby the Thuggee feed them what ignorant foreigners expect from an Indian. If it was, the execution on screen’s too subtle to the point of not being there, but it’s not that hard to assume they’re all supposed to be members of the cult. The screenplay has Jones pointing out “Even if they were trying to scare us away, a devout Hindu would never touch meat.” May 14, 2008 at 2:57 pm in reply to: Did you see Red Dwarf? – Spoilers! #80293 RidleyParticipant Which one’s Nick Frost again? If that counts. May 7, 2008 at 6:38 pm in reply to: Indiana Jones and the Kingdom of the Crystal Skull #80033 RidleyParticipant http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=UsGaB52hfjc Second trailer for those that don’t want to navigate Flash May 2, 2008 at 1:46 am in reply to: Anyone free this weekend? #123122 RidleyParticipant Marc Wootton got paid for that. April 28, 2008 at 7:58 pm in reply to: Goodbye To Love #122956 RidleyParticipant Script Consultant Red Dwarf: The Movie (Red Dwarf Films) Conf:Stars of Red Dwarf Are we talking jape of the decade? :P April 27, 2008 at 1:14 am in reply to: “A WHITE hole?” #122894 RidleyParticipant I once sat There while someone said she’d vote for the BNP IF they changed their name and policies. Actually this reminds me, I’ve also seen a link to a white supremacist forum telling people how they should pretend to agree with those against them. Was a while ago, wish I could find the post, if only to be more specific. April 27, 2008 at 12:50 am in reply to: Did you see Doctor Who? – Spoilers! #122892 RidleyParticipant I liked the episode, just didn’t really like the opening and cliffhanger for having stupid moments from people who should know better – to smash a window and the… journalist was she? who should have decided to walk home – and the acting from those two soldiers before they got hypnotised. Don’t know how but I’d like to see that 18 year old genius as a recurring villain. April 24, 2008 at 11:23 pm in reply to: Space Junk.. #122830 RidleyParticipant There’s got to be a TARDIS in there somewhere. April 24, 2008 at 11:03 pm in reply to: Make it so?….er sorry i can’t… #122827 RidleyParticipant I prefer Extras to The Office… Why do you find him not funny anymore, Mr. Ellard? Is it because he plays the same character in everything? I’m never sure what I think of the man. I do wonder when his whole irony schtick with his celebrity or controversy will leave people wondering if that’s what he actually thinks. April 24, 2008 at 5:24 pm in reply to: Let John begin masturbating… #122804 RidleyParticipant With the Simpsons I was surprised looking at the episode guide just how clear the line for me is when the quality has a sudden drop: 4/5 episodes into season 10 (not counting the Treehouse of Horror). Unless those earlier episodes were made with season 9, it was a bit strange to see Lard of the Dance and Bart the Mother (which doesn’t seem to be liked by many people for whatever reason) in the same group as Mayored to the Mob, Viva Ned Flanders and Thirty Minutes Over Tokyo. And for the record I liked Principal and the Pauper. ;) While continuity and character development isn’t really a factor for me in watching the Simpsons, I do think Sideshow Bob’s story should have ended with Brother from Another Series. And I would have been very happy if Russ Cargill had been Hank Scorpio instead. April 22, 2008 at 2:29 pm in reply to: So why WAS he allowed to mend the drive-plate? #122704 RidleyParticipant Maybe the actual ‘mending’ itself was a pathetically simple task that anyone could have done. But didn’t. Oh dear, this page is fourth on a google search for drive plate. April 20, 2008 at 9:54 am in reply to: Did you see Doctor Who? – Spoilers! #122606 RidleyParticipant Was better than the last Ood one I thought. Captain Darling’s Ood tonic was a bit much mind.
