I LOVE the fact he says “Geronimo!”. For obvious Rimmer-related reasons.

I was dubious about 11 but you know… I think he’s going to be brilliant. Even if he reminds me of an English Lit student who’s just rushed out of bed 2 minutes before his final exam. And the new companion is hot.

I’ll need to watch part 1 again but something was said about Wilf being at the heart of coincidence… possibly as some kind of explanation as to why he and the Doctor’s lives keep becoming intertwined, or rather why he was “chosen” by the Time Lords, if that was the case.
It did seem a bit of a cop-out that the entire build up to the Time Lords returning was resolved so quickly… the Master’s entire life and insanity had built up to this moment, all these prophecies about something returning… and all it took was a quick bullet to a diamond and they were gone again. I had hoped for something a bit more… epic… and having guns play a part in any resolution always bugs me, especially when the whole mysterious Time Lord lady (or just Time Lady?) who appeared to Wilf kept telling him to take up arms… was it just for that reason?
As for Mickey and Martha, they weren’t necessarily on earth – Jack certainly wasn’t! As the next visit was to save SJ’s son from being run over, I liked to think that he changed a bit of time before he died. Perhaps Martha was originally shot by a Sontarin and he saved her, or something.
As for Jack… and Alonso… might we have the start of a new Torchwood crew? ;) Or was the Doctor’s final goodbye to Jack just to get him laid?
It was fun, if not strangely paced and with slightly anti-climactic resolutions. Ultimately, though, it was part 2 of the Christmas special, a send-off for David Tennant and RTD, so it’s allowed a bit of creative freedom. And as Karl said… we’re Red Dwarf fans… surely we’re used to unanswered questions and a lack of continuity ;)

    Congratulations!
Hmmm… David or Kristine (spelt however you like) are subtle tributes, or for a Dr Who reference, Rose or Jack, wait no, those are the characters in Titanic…
How about Robert David (can be after Robert Llewelyn or Grant, shortened to Bob, and David Lister), the initials are then RD, or when put backwards, DR (WHO!) ;)

All I could think was how bad the “Master race” pun was (if it can be called a pun??), and how much fun John Simm must have had filming. But what exactly does he plan to do now that he’s copied almost the entire planet into himself? Will they all just walk around laughing, or will they move on to the rest of the universe?
Well, whatever flaws it may have had, I still can’t wait for part 2…

Ahhh, I’m finishing my job on Thursday. It is Santa’s Grotto, so it would only be weird if it was open longer. So… now I’ll do anything. Bar work, shops, kitchens, who cares if you have a degree, it’s still hard to get anything at the moment… MERRY CHRISTMAS TOO!

I think the real answer here is… Doug thought it would be funny. Or “because series VIII was shit”… ;)
But seriously. It was a hallucination. Just like everything that happened in Back to Reality… Back to Earth… Better than Life… I’m sure you can think of more.

But I’ve also lived with some Rimmers in my time, and they are far more annoying.

Well, Season 2 seems a bit better (based on 4 episodes) but it does plunge you into the story a nonspecified amount of time later, and it will probably take the entire series to complete the jigsaw puzzle. There are some storylines that I find very annoying though, particularly Adelle DeTwit’s decision making processes…

Well, you wrote it without watching any of season 2. The story is clearly about Caroline (or Echo), and despite many flaws, for me it was a thought-provoking look at memory, identity, consciousness and the soul. Maybe I’ve been studying too much Philosophy of Mind but it raised a lot of questions (which, admittedly it could never answer). There is definite character development – you follow Echo, as well as Sierra and Victor (and their oh-so-cute love story that transcends memory and identity) as you gradually learn more about them, why they are in the Dollhouse, and watch their supposedly erased memories start popping to the surface. Is it only interesting to psychology nerds?

I’m looking at my DVD collection in sad realisation that I own nothing that you probably haven’t already seen… apart from perhaps “They Live!” – it’s a John Carpenter film, and is a bit dystopian I guess, a little bit David Icke… plus “Rowdy” Roddy Piper plays the lead – what can possibly go wrong?

Wait, shit, I meant Curse. Escape is the shitty 3D one that I have for PS2 and gave up on pretty quickly!! So, ignore that… I can’t convince Curse of Monkey Island to work on my shiny Vista laptop. This happens with most good old games (especially Discworld II), they will start to work and then crash after about 15 minutes…

Most students here use “like” in between pretty much every word.
“So it’s like, I went to her and was like, are you ok? and she’s was like no, and it was like really awkward”… not in a surfer dude way, but just listen to people talking and count the amound of times they say it, like.

Oh dear, I do that a lot in real life, but mostly with “you hope” or “yeah, let’s go with that…”… people get confused pretty quickly!

Well, the trick is to say “so to speak” after really obscure things, in order to confuse people. OR say something incredibly graphic and disgusting – and add “so to speak” at the end. Play it!

I thought he should have taken Adelaide’s body and put her back on Mars, to keep things as similar as possible, but there we go. He has probably cracked after all those centuries, seeing so many things, all the beauty and all the pain of the universe is too much for one mind… plus all the doctors are essentially *him*, right, so having a new body isn’t going to erase all the inner darkness…

Wasn’t that just before the memory loss drug/airborne virus hit her and made them all silly? Also… notice that there’s always one annoying “geeky” character who constantly makes sarcastic little jibes, well… Topher… Wash… Xander?

What about River Song, who claims to have had a relationship with the Doctor? I’m sure there was lots of sex there. Jack is a walking bag of sexual energy, although you could talk a lot about Torchwood, where sex is much more evident (and nondiscriminating). The Doctor also has a daughter, and in The Family of Blood he falls in love (with Daisy from Spaced)… these are all Tennant-heavy episodes, it’s when I pay the most attention.

If we’re on the subject of Whedon… has anyone watched Dollhouse? And what did you think? I’ve just finished season 1… I enjoyed it but I really want to discuss it.
Where did this come from? Ah, Jack being bland? I don’t know… for someone who’d died that many times, spent 1000 years or something underground and seen so much of the universe, he still seems a bit too sane. But maybe the healing thing works on his mind, too (as it does in Heroes).
