‘What the jesusing cunting fuck?’ – I use this expression all the time now after watching John Hoare’s Downfall.

While we’re heaping on the praise I rewatched the movie Yeah No Yeah No the other day and 3 bits made me squeal with delight. ‘Boys From The Dwarf’, ‘Oh… Ah…’ and the evergreen ‘funding doesn’t exist here anymore.’

Robert ‘you’re lying’ Llewellyn made me laugh. ‘You’re lying’ may make it into ‘100 best catchphrases’ yet.

Much as I love Seinfeld, Jerry’s show looks like Carpool Uncharmed.

Absolute bunch of thieving cunts – hope they get caught.

To answer your question though I think the ‘Lister’s coming home’ promotional stuff (I loved the trailer of Rimmer on the escalator) was about 1 month before BTE aired.

As I remember it, the gap between Bobbyllew mentioning there would be ‘new Dwarf’ and BTE airing was about 7 months in total.

The gap between RDX being confirmed at DJXV and airdates will be 3 years. Oh boy…

    I can’t bloody wait!

Good to see the I-A-I-N Ians and the I-A-N Ians making peace. Still it was an Ian-tresting and Ian-gaging feud while it lasted.

I’m watching all the Red Dwarf DVDs again. Commentarys, extras, doccos the lot. This morning it was Backwards Forwards and Howard Goodall’s series 3 incidentals. Craig Charles’ full length Cash song was a welcome blast from the past!

Also watching Filthy Rich and Catflap on youtube. I’ve already watched it through once but watching again because it’s so brilliantly of it’s time and there was a great article about it on Noise to Signal.

Love it, that first shot I especially like with the silly/charming H’s on Rimmer’s sign and the polymorph grinning in the background.

I loved everything about it at the time. The build up to it and the teaser trailers were very well done by Dave and I experienced an adrenaline rush from the title sequence alone. I don’t remember at what point during part one I stopped worrying it would be shit and started laughing but it was definitely before the ad break.

Overall I think it’s better than we could have expected and there are some really funny moments especially in part two and on Coronation Street. The ending to part three I found to be very moving as well.

I understand why some people aren’t so keen on it but I really liked it. Mainly because it was great to have Red Dwarf back in any case but also because it exceeded my low expectations after series VIII.

Kryten saying ‘someone pummel my diodes’ pleases me greatly for some reason.

in reply to: What’s people’s problem with Series 8? #115790

My biggest problem with VIII is that the rest of the series doesn’t live up to what I consider to be a very promising and very funny first episode.

Captain Hollister is brilliant in episode one (I’m busting his ass down to tampon dispenser), the retro series one bunk room set is great, Kryten and Kochanski have that funny scene where Kryten throws away his notebook, Rimmer and Lister have some classic exchanges (knowledge is power… who said that?) only slightly ruined by over explanation (I’M LOOKING AT YOU FRENCH MOVIE STAR), Dr McClaren is a humorous supporting character and the final line of ‘The world loves a bastard’ is one of the strongest final lines of any episode.

It’s very frustrating for me because I was on such a high after Back In The Red part one and things just got worse as the artificial reality plot revealed itself and a lot of terribly forced exchanges crept in (theory of relativity being the all time low).

I think with series VII and VIII that there are very good six episode series to be made out of both of them and a lot of what went wrong could have been fixed in the edit. Series VIII in particular could have been so much better.

I’ve said this before but srmcd1 did a brilliant job editing the last episode of series viii Mirror/Rorrim.

I will watch the Pete three parter at some point and I’ll be very impressed if srmcd1 saved that one!

Imagine if series seven and eight had only had six episodes in each. We could have lost Duct Soup, Beyond A Joke and both Petes.

I think losing those episodes might have made those series stand up a bit better against 1-6.

Yep, I’m a big pink floyd. What I like about them is they’re massively popular and really deep as well.

Been obsessed with all their albums at one time or another. Today it’s Animals or Atom Heart Mother. Also a big fan of The Wall movie – intense!

Drooled over the lavish box set of The Wall in hmv earlier in the week although they really should have included a full film of the 1980 stage show the stingy basts.

I actually do like the bit where Kryten sneaks the time wand back by hiding it in his head. That is a good bit.

I never really had a problem with the basketball scene other than it’s totally implausible as a form of punishment.

Some funny bits in these episodes but on the whole they’re unsalvageable.

I thought it was a good edit but just can’t get past that very silly shot of the skutter in the dinosaurs stomach.

Cutting out the third ‘we’re finished!’ – good call.

I had to stop watching when that skutter emerged from the water.

There’s a really bitchy blog from the time series viii aired which I can’t find now (although I’m sure there’s a link somewhere on G & T) about how many IQ points you’d have to lose to laugh at Rimmer saying ‘we’re finished’ for the third time.

Although the same blog also noted that ‘follow the Rimmer shaped blur’line is a good line.

I’d like to find that blog again because it charts the disappointment of viii very well in real time. Maybe someone knows which blog I’m on about?

Great stuff Pete Part Three. The original edit is the best comically but really good to see the full length version of legend.

Also Bobby is king of the Smeg Ups in this episode. ‘Well now I understand, oh, I’ve just forgotten what I understood there.’

Put on the fan film section when the dvd came out expecting it to be a load of old bollocks but the movie YBNBY is great.

Yep, looking forward to more Dwarfcasts as and when.

Most of the issues surrounding VII were covered in the excellent Tikka cast. I suggest you all get pissed up on cider 2006 style and do one for Pete part one and two (yes, including re caps) to properly vent some spleen regarding series VIII.

At least three more series. That seems like a good innings. So far the age of the cast hasn’t mattered a jot because each new series that has come has in some way or other freshened up the formula. Ever since series 2!

One day but not today or tomorrow. Maybe the day after that.

There is a brilliant movie that could be made out of the first novel but seeing as we’re talking about a re boot there’s no hurry and also there is more interesting new stuff on the horizon.

I thought the robot hand was going to be revealed during the hand clap in court. I laughed a lot (as I have the last two) and I still have a lot of goodwill for the show. Nothing to rival last series ‘Are We Not Men’ so far. Nice to have it referenced here!

I just watched the first third of the US pilot. It is funny. Not no, yeah. Mainly Kryten (‘aahhhh’) but Craig Bierko is good too. I went to DJ 97 and 98 hoping to see this but didn’t get to see it until youtube cropped up.

Would’ve been a solid American sitcom. Sadly we’d have been denied series VI and Pete Part Two if it had gone ahead.

Film: Live Forever (documentary about British music in the 90s. Great for dwarfers of a certain age and Noel and Jarvis are really funny too)

Book: Harry Potter (I’m surprised how much I’m enjoying the series having previously shown no interest)

Album: Pulp – This Is Hardcore. I second that! Absolutely brilliant.

Other cool thing: Collings and Herrin is mah favourite podcast.
