Heya! Just wanted to drop back in for an update. To date, the main compendium is written and is currently being edited. Also, the Intro, acknowledgements, abbreviation key, episode guide, universe guide and foreword should all be finished by next week, and soon will also be sent to the editor. After everything all cleaned up, the index will be created. We’ve got a few people lined up to look over the whole thing once it’s compiled and edited; after all is said and done, we should be good to go by June/July of this year.

My editor claims this is the biggest manuscript of all the publications done by Hasslein Books, so there’s a slim chance it may end up becoming two books, due to the limits of Print-on-Demand. If that ends up being the case, we’ll try our hardest to price them accordingly so customers are not shelling out too much more for the two. I really don’t want to go that route because it might be perceived as a cash-grab, but I also don’t want the quality and contents to suffer, so I really won’t know until I start laying out the book.

Although I enjoyed every moment of the process, after three years I can honestly say I’m relieved the hard part is finally over, and I’m very much looking forward to seeing this book finally come together in the upcoming months. I hope you all are too.

I just received an answer to my query about the game:

“…As for the Red Dwarf prototype game. We approached Grant & Naylor about making a Red Dwarf game back in 2004, we were big fans of the show. I was running my first video games company then, Genuine Games, which I co-founded with a talented games designer friend/colleague of mine Gordon Ross. He was the brains of the company at that time who got us involved in a pitch for a potential Red Dwarf game with another small Scottish developer ran by Dave Sharpe a game industry veteran. We (Genuine Games) created a playable prototype, I actually did most of the design and 3D artwork for it. There was never a script just a small playable 3rd person prototype where you could walk around a section of the ship and primitively interact with the surroundings. We took this to show Doug Naylor and some TV execs who were very keen to make a game. At this stage I think he and Rob Grant had fallen out or gone their separate ways creatively which made it really hard to get the project off the ground even though we had a lot of interest in creating the game. In fact I still get people who see the original artwork from the prototype saying that it would be a great game and there is still a big following for the series. So the main reason the project never went any further was due to the creators falling out with each other so it was hard to do a deal as they were both pulling in different directions. So for us it just stayed on our hard drives never to be taken any further. Lots of games never see the light of day in the games industry and that one unfortunately was one of them.”

    So there you go.

I don’t care how bad the game would be, I’d buy it JUST for this.

For Fuck’s sake, stop making episodes so I can finish this damned book!!

I’m kidding, of course; but I do feel a sense of ambivalence whenever a new series is announced…or “not” announced in this case. =)

Well, it looks like the Androids site is up and running now; however it now appears the Dibbley site is down: (http://www.duanedibbley.co.uk/)

The only other site I don’t have access to is the Dibbley site, but only because I can’t get to it from the Androids site and can’t find a direct link anywhere. If the Androids site is down for good, I may need the link to the Dibbley page.

On the Diva-Droid History page, clicking on the Androids link (http://www.androids.tv/) displays a 500 – Internal server error. Now, is that because I’m not visiting it between the hours mentioned on the HoloPoint site, or is it actually down? I only just thought of that possibility this morning… =)

Update: I was able to find the website for Holopoint, so I really just need any info anyone has on the Dibbley site and (if it’s exists somewhere) any info on the Androids page. Thanks!

((I’m sure the writers were at least trying to be a bit cleverer than just handing out puerile insults. Unfortunately, it would appear the wit of Rob and Doug isn’t very easily translated!))

I disagree: It’s not a puerile insult, given his head actually LOOKS like a giant penis. It’s no different than calling him Novelty Condom-Head, except that insult can actually pass British censors. Had the movie ever been made, I’m sure a dickhead joke would have made it in somewhere… =)

I don’t think of it as being lost in translation so much as it is what I’m sure the writers would have written in the first place had they been allowed to.

I’ve got the arcade emulator MAME on my computer and this:
X-Arcade Tankstick With Trackball: Trimode USB

I can pretty much play any old arcade game I can find: Dig Dug, Pac Man, Galaga, Centipede, Asteroids, you name it.

I had bought a 2600 out of pure nostalgia at a garage sale, and after buying a bunch of games from eBay, realized I’ve just been ruined by modern gaming, and sold it again. But I was able to hook it up to a modern TV, you just have to find the right adapters.

I agree with Connell (except I would argue the part about it being a good American flick), it just lacked the energy and brains of Shaun and Fuzz. While the first two were brilliant genre spoof films, Paul (and to a lesser degree Run, Fatboy Run) were OK comedies, just not good Simon Pegg films. I have cautious optimism that World’s End will return to the magic of the earlier films.

Even up to Series X Kryten still has problems disobeying orders, So wherever you put Camille it would contradict that; however as was pointed out, the necessity to save a life probably overrode it, since it’s established elsewhere in the series that saving a human comes before the lives of mechanoids and holograms.

I know it was never released, but I’m assuming that since it has an Amazon holding-page it might have at least been started; it’s the unreleased manuscript I was saying would be cool to have, but as I said, that’s about as likely as getting a hold of one of the movie scripts…

And I’m guessing the “reviews” for the book are fellow G&T members having a little fun =)

Mine was Kryten’s friendship speech in “Last Day”… I remember thinking, “what a total ripoff of Star Trek!” just before Lister uttered the phrase “Don’t give me that Star Trek crap! It’s too early in the morning…”

    I’ve been hooked ever since.

In no particular order, my other earliest memories are the underpants scene in Polymorph, Rimmer telling Lister his bum was like two badly parked Volkwagens in Marooned, and (my personal favorite) Winnie the Pooh’s execution in Meltdown.
