The second pilot is a mish-mash of footage from the original series, the first American pilot and some new footage, but presented as a sort of clip show. I was able to find digital versions of them online, then to my surprise found someone selling bootleg copies, so I grabbed one. To my dismay, the quality on the DVD was much worse than the digital files; it was like trying to watch a scrambled channel. If anyone is that desperate to see it, contact me and I can hook you up with the digital file.

Another reference I’ve been using is the Props store website; sometimes they have props with writing on it not visible onscreen.

Aside from that site, does anyone own any props with writing on it?

@PlasticPercy: Thanks, ultimately it worked out for the best, as I prefer hardcopies anyway, but if it turned out to be the difference between spending $120 on a book or the torrents, I would have definitely taken you up on it. As far as the timeline, it’s funny you say that, our company started by doing timelines, but when I decided to do Red Dwarf I wasn’t convinced there would be enough date-specific material to be able to do a comprehensive chronology. If I ever do decide to do it, you’ll be the first to know… =) Thanks!

OK, PHEW! I actually have both the US Region 1 DVDs and the remastered Series I-III DVDs (dubbed the Bodysnatcher Collection, which was never released in America), so hopefully there’s nothing I’m missing there.

Ben: Thanks, the Roleplaying game and all associated materials have actually all been obtained; the Series Sourcebook was a particular pain to find, as most places were selling it for upwards of $120 or more due to its rarity, but finally found it for list price. Thumbing through it, I was amused at how much material it will actually end up adding, particularly the Sourcebook, which has in-depth profiles of every minor character seen in the series. And yes, the playable iguana and rat races will be included as alternate universe entries… =)

Alex: Oh yes, I plan on checking out every major fan site eventually, if there’s anything I’ve learned so far, it’s to not overlook ANYTHING; I’ve found entries in concept art! I’m mostly looking for in-universe material, so things like viewing figures for the show are not really needed for entries, but still cool to know, so I’ll be sure to check it out. I’ve listened to the episodes of Son of Cliché included on the DVDs, but I’m torn; My co-worker says I should include them in the book, but I consider them just outside the realm of canon enough to question its inclusion. I’ll probably go back and forth on that one.

I’d also like to add to the list possible differences between versions; I know the official site has an article on the differences between the Czech and English versions, but if anyone knows any differences in other languages or conversions, that would be great to include as well. Thanks!

Never got into TF2, but I’m still looking for partners to finish up Portal2 Co-op! I hate leaving games unfinished.

This site says Rimmer sings the Dead March from “Saul” by Handel in Future Echoes. It’s actually “Marche Funébre” by Chopin.

    In case you were wondering.

Yeah, I’ve found a few errors while using the site, I’ve never bothered to write to correct them since it hasn’t been updated in eons

If you’re ‘starting’ to like it because you only now just started watching episodes, then you’re forgiven; if you’re starting to like it because you’ve been watching all along and only now think the episodes are getting good, then death is too good for you.

It closely resembles Eurostile Bold condensed.

edit: Sorry, I quickly read the post and thought you were referring to the font on the actual ship. Internally, yes, most of it looks like Eurostile extended

You say that as if you don’t believe I have a very good reason for asking…. ;)

Quite the literal bunch, aren’t ya… =) Let’s just say a lot more hits came up on Google with it spelled with a ‘v’….

Anyway, A friend of mine pointed out the Chapter title on the DVD also says “Vindaloovians” so I guess I’ll go with that, and just assume nobody actually proofreads official Red Dwarf books. Thanks for playing!

@Ori-STUDFARM: Yeah, if you look close I had actually stenciled a “13” in yellow next to the patch, then painted over it because I wasn’t thrilled with it, unfortunately you can still kind of see it through the paint, I just figure it gives it a more weathered look. =) Eventually if I can figure out if it ever actually showed up on screen, I might print an image of the screengrab alongside and make some kind of plaque, but that’s later on down the road.

    @Phil: Thanks!

@HelloMabel: that would be in my living room above my collectibles case.

Yep, apparently they have more than one.. =) The one they ship you is not the same as the one in the picture, the markings are different. It’s not even the same one as the photo on the COA.

@ RedDwarfFan2982: LOL, most likely not Lister’s, although they were probably interchangeable, meaning he might have used it at one point. The point is, I’m looking for visual proof, a high-definition screenshot or production still, that I can use to match the markings of the one I have.

@JEZZMUND: LOL, the only reason I have it is because I’m in the U.S. and it was much cheaper than most due to a new law stating they can’t ship replica guns within the UK, effectively making it illegal for you to obtain one. So even if I wanted to, I couldn’t ship it to you.. =)

Thanks Jonathan, that’s actually the script notes I was referring to that got me researching the info. It’s for a book I’m currently working on, and we tend to be real nitpickers for accuracy, so rather than get the info wrong, I just may leave it out altogether if I can’t verify.
