I was able to find images of all the 2007 and 2008 calendar pages, but other than that I’m hoping someone has kept their old calendars and can possibly get me scans of them.

    EDIT: Si…. I think we need to chat… =)

I would definitely include any material found in Andrew’s book that added in-universe material… unfortunately since my book is an unauthorized production I’m not actively seeking out anyone officially affiliated with GNP for fear of getting them in trouble. It’s a shame, that book would probably almost be as good as having the movie script itself. =)

Ridley: It’s the first I’ve heard of that one. Did it ever actually get released, or did it suffer a similar fate as the movie itself?

You need to let this go.

Oh, I’m sorry… is my research bothering you…? Excuse the fuck out of me.

And I agree, Lemons would probably fit the best, especially with the North Star opening scene.

Jason: heh heh… well, there’s bound to be a few errors in a book this size, it’s unfortunate one of them is in the preview.. =)

As far as the Red Dwarf cover goes, Pat won’t be doing that one because I absolutely can’t have anything identifiable on the cover as being specifically from Red Dwarf, as the book is unauthorized. We got away with it on the BttF book because we have the support of the official BttF website, so we could bend the rules a little; but for the RD book, I don’t want to take any chances with the cover, so the cover you see on our website is the final design. It’s a shame, because we did have him do a preliminary rough sketch of something back before I decided on a generic cover; but we felt it was still too identifiable.

Thanks! That, plus all the interior sketches, where done by our extremely talented illustrator Pat Carbajal: http://patart-pat.blogspot.com. He did most of our covers, including the one for our upcoming Back to the Future Timeline.

No problem Jonsmad, thanks for trying!

For those interested in the BttF book, the book’s page is here:

    http://hassleinbooks.com/pages/book_bttfLexicon.php

It will eventually contain links to the various Amazon sites carrying the book, including Amazon.UK.

You can also friend us at facebook.com/hassleinbooks or follow us at Twitter.com/hassleinbooks to be updated when the book is released. I’ll also post in the forums here when it’s available, as long as the Admins don’t mind a non-Red Dwarf related plug.

Just an update: Work on the RD book has slowed as we finished up production on our Back to the Future Lexicon, which is still on track for a Thanksgiving release. Once the dust settles on that, I’m returning full-force to Red Dwarf, finishing up documenting Back to Earth before moving on to the novels!

We had one person report back to us that it was a pretty faithful adaptation of the movie, but what were your thoughts? Was there anything in it that would be considered ‘new’ material for the encyclopedia? I wish I knew you were going, I could have sent you in as our correspondent.. =)

I never got the impression the Columbus was brought along, I assumed the transporter just transported the crew through space (and time) by way of the rod ‘connecting’ the Rimmers, leaving their ship behind. I also think Kryten ‘mispoke’ when he said they could be there in a matter of seconds, as he just finished saying the craft was not flight-worthy and useless to them.

I seem to remember that there was a sign in the shop telling actors not to eat the sweets… or have I just made that up?

There was; in fact, that was the first clue I had that they were on a set, and not on an “actual” street. The thing that threw me was the magazine cover mentioning Coronation Street in the same store. Why would that have been there if it was a set (even an on-location one) ?

Thanks! I think I have a better grasp of what they were intending, I think the “On-location set” is the only thing that explains why there is mail in the mailbox, or why there’s a cashier working in the shop that’s supposed to be a set, selling magazines that actually mention Coronation Street. (mind you, this is not nitpicking, I’m just trying to get the entries straight for the Encyclopedia…)

OK, I actually have a serious question regarding BtE… during the Coronation Street bit, what’s the general consensus: was it meant to be a “Real Life” location, or were they supposed to actually be on the set of Coronation Street? In other words, according to their perception, did they actually drive through the town of Weatherfield, or were they, either knowingly or unknowingly, really on the set of the television show? There’s evidence to support both, but I want to know what the general population believes to be the case.

I’m actually going through BtE now for the Encyclopedia; watching it again after re-watching Blade Runner, I happen to think the Nose World scene and final confrontation with the creator were absolutely brilliant, and the revelation at the end justified the entire 3-part series in my opinion. I do think they should have at least used a laugh-track for the ship-board scenes, then removed it while they were on “Earth”. I think this would have worked on several levels; one, it would have made the ship-board scenes more Dwarfy, and wouldn’t have instantly put off so many people; it would have also strengthened the contrast between their reality and the ‘real world’, and finally, I don’t think the Earth-bound scenes needed it, as the focus on humor switched from situational comedy to sci-fi parody. Unfortunately so much of the latter scenes’ humor relies on an in-depth knowledge of Blade Runner (The character of “Swallow”, for example, being modeled and named after Hannibal “Chew”!, or pretty much everything having to do with the Creator, from his look, to his ‘munchkin’ minions, to his death) with dialog taken practically word-for-word from the movie.

Thanks Jeff! Sorry to keep side-lining, but those vids you mentioned, were the cast ‘in character’ in them, or were they just themselves? I’m asking because I’m writing an encyclopedia on RD and looking for any new in-universe material, and this is something totally new to me.

    > I did too, but I have to say I REEEEEEALLY dislike Telltale’s approach. It’s more “click here to advance to another flood of dialogue” than “okay, I have a cleaver, a thimble, a dinosaur egg and a picture of Sasquatch…how do I get into the fortress?”

Ha! OK, I’ll agree with you on that. The newer games seem to be more about the writing and less about making actual puzzles to solve. I think I only got stuck once in the entire game, and it was only because I wasn’t paying attention to what I was supposed to be doing. Fortunately they do enough of a good job with the material, whether it’s Sam & Max, Wallace & Gromit or BttF, to keep me coming back.. =)

Thanks, Seb, I responded in full over at the official forums, but to reiterate: I apologize if I made it sound like I thought it was a ‘conspiracy’, it was merely a reaction to having been told something that it is only now, less than two weeks away from airing, not appearing to be the case. I can certainly wait a few weeks if it takes that long to make it’s way over, it just would have been nice to have been told t would take a few weeks, instead of getting misinformation disguised as fact.

Telltale games by their very nature are slower-paced games… and the BttF game was admittedly slower than the average Telltale game, so I can see where you’re coming from. I grew up on those kind of “point and click” adventure games, so it was old hat for me, but I can understand they’re not for everyone. Still, I had the added ‘bonus’ of having to click on every single item multiple times to get every last line of dialog in the game.. so you can imagine how slow it was for ME… =)

Does anyone know of any scripts out there, first draft to final, that isn’t included in the two official script books? I’m talking actual scripts, not transcripts found on some websites. Scripts, especially early drafts, usually contain a wealth of information not commonly known. If anyone knows of any (or owns copies of them) please contact me, Thanks!

My first exposure to Red Dwarf was on PBS back in the nineties, it was the only time I ever considered donating to the station. Just saw the news here:
