Doctor Who – New Series. New Thread #109246 TonguetiedParticipant Just watched The Eleventh Hour, picture quality was amazing, love the new designs, Doctor’s garb is quite fitting. The only thing that bothered me, something that Davies did ad nauseum was the comedy, I was hoping it would be toned down with the Moffat era. Nice introduction to Smith, although I could hear echoes of Tennant in his voice. Title sequence isn’t anything breathtaking, I was hoping for a Smith’s face in there but alas no. Amelia Pond was excellent, good chemistry and I love how she is Scottish. Her boyfriend on the other hand didn’t really stand out, hopefully he’ll make it to Micky status and get his teeth into the part. All and all, it feels like a worthy start to the Moffat era. April 4, 2010 at 11:47 am in reply to: Call of Duty World at War Nazi Zombies anyone? #109245 TonguetiedParticipant Certainly not crap, World War two may have been done to death but WAW packs a punch and has excellent gameplay. Nazi Zombies is astoundingly fun, magnificent online experience. December 2, 2009 at 10:17 am in reply to: Blue Midget dance = blatent clue to hallucination #106746 TonguetiedParticipant Why all the wise cracks, this topic is based on something that has always pestered me about Back in the Red part 3 and all you can do is mock? It’s a very sensible question regarding the episode and yet no ‘Dwarfer’ here is interested in giving a logical response. You shouldn’t always parade on my topics considering I am asking honest questions. If I can’t rely on proper answers on a Red Dwarf forum then it’s a sad day. December 1, 2009 at 11:20 pm in reply to: Blue Midget dance = blatent clue to hallucination #106733 TonguetiedParticipant >They couldn?t in Series 1-VII because of all the JMC cut backs but when the nano bots recreated the ship it made Blue Midget more sophisticated, including an improved movement and sensors meaning it can ?dance?. That’s an interesting theory. December 1, 2009 at 11:17 pm in reply to: Blue Midget dance = blatent clue to hallucination #106731 TonguetiedParticipant P.S. Could I get a logical response to the question and not some stoned manic sugar daddy’s idea of a wind up? Or is that too much to ask? I’m trying to create a nice little topic here about something I noticed in the episode, so could we have a debate on Red Dwarf and not silliness? This is after all meant to be the most prestigious Red Dwarf related forum on the net. I thought I could get some incite from fellow Dwarf aficionados. December 1, 2009 at 11:10 pm in reply to: Blue Midget dance = blatent clue to hallucination #106729 TonguetiedParticipant Yeah your avatar is quite scary, although horror isn’t the word I would use, maybe potato perhaps? Sorry, sorry edit, make that inside out potato. December 1, 2009 at 11:02 pm in reply to: Blue Midget dance = blatent clue to hallucination #106728 TonguetiedParticipant It’s just something I never understood about that episode, is Blue Midget entirely capable of being programmed to follow human postures or is it just due to the induced mind state? November 29, 2009 at 3:50 pm in reply to: I suddenly feel the urge to… to strut my funky stuff! #106686 TonguetiedParticipant Ah my namesake, I am impressed. Are you sure it wasn’t me hiding in the Jukebox singing. November 26, 2009 at 4:16 pm in reply to: Series VII, bad Dwarf but good comedy tv? #106574 TonguetiedParticipant I quite liked the idea of Spring Mario too, plus the Mario Bros cartoon that Ori-studfarm mentioned was one of my favourite cartoons when I was younger. I liked how the latter cartoon was based on Super Mario World(my favourite Mario title). November 26, 2009 at 4:06 pm in reply to: New Holly #106569 TonguetiedParticipant Tony Hawkes would be a great Holly, I would love to see him back in a role on Dwarf giving his past history on the show. I agree with Andrew that if we did have Holly back we would need to have him/her in a more grounded full role. I would love to see the idea that was thrown around back in like series 5 where the crew would actually cross through into Holly’s mainframe. A Holly central episode would be great, but I think those days are gone, if he/she comes back I think it will be in the vein of series VIII appearance. Maybe the odd wrist watch gag here and there when the crew are off ship would be nice or appearing on Kryten’s chest monitor which I always felt was underused. November 26, 2009 at 11:18 am in reply to: New Holly #106550 TonguetiedParticipant PLus he’s good at doing impressions. November 22, 2009 at 4:11 pm in reply to: Series VII, bad Dwarf but good comedy tv? #106399 TonguetiedParticipant Thanks for all the comments, they seem to be varied which is good. I watched Beyond a Joke last night and I have to say I really enjoyed it, even the scenes with Able. I loved the whole Jane Austin sequence, the way Kryten picks off the sisters is classic. The CGI holds up ok strangely, sure the blur effect can be very noticeable but it isn’t terrible. The odd model shots inserted are a breath of fresh air, I love seeing a model of Starbug with it’s support struts turned up. Ouroboros is my favourite of series VII, just because it answers the big question of Lister’s past something which was touched upon in The Last Day. Plus the scene with Rimmer and Lister three million years earlier really reminds me of series 1 and 2 banter between the duo. It really feels like a continuation of the old style Rimmer and Lister’s hawaiian shirt mixed with his leather waist coat seemed like a blending of the earlier series with the later. November 21, 2009 at 10:26 pm in reply to: Potential Red Dwarf US Dwarfcast? #106337 TonguetiedParticipant Sounds like a very neat idea, I love all podcasts that deal with Dwarf! Sorry to hear that it didn’t materialize first time round. November 13, 2009 at 12:35 pm in reply to: Wanna be Duane Dibley? Official site update! #106039 TonguetiedParticipant Whoops, forgot to do a link http://www.reddwarf.co.uk/news/2009/11/13/wanna%2Dbe%2Dduane%2Ddibley/ November 12, 2009 at 10:46 pm in reply to: Back to Earth Smeg up’s #106022 TonguetiedParticipant I thought they did a good job with the Smeg up’s given the limited time scale and the size of the production, they managed to squeeze in some decent material. November 12, 2009 at 10:44 pm in reply to: What’ve I missed? #106021 TonguetiedParticipant I feel for you buddy, I really do. May 4, 2009 at 3:41 pm in reply to: I’ve just been reading Better Than Life #98520 TonguetiedParticipant I would never go as far to say the relationship between Lister and Rimmer could be classified as friendship. I certainly think that as Muz mentioned in relation to Marooned, there is a tolerance between the two. While in said episode, Rimmer spurs Lister on to survive, not out of friendship but out of Rimmer’s sense of duty and love of coercing order to others. Take another episode now, Stoke Me a Clipper: Lister looks distinctly uncomfortable with having to honor Rimmer at the funeral. He does however try his best to keep the pretence that Rimmer has died and not Ace. As for Blue, well Lister himself is disgusted with the prospect of missing Rimmer and is proven that his feeling of loss is completely wrong found by the end of the episode where he recalls just how bitterly he related to Rimmer and all his traits. Also, in the article on the official Red Dwarf website, an analysis on the character of Rimmer defines his personality and relationship towards Lister perfectly; Rimmer hates Lister, he never embraced a false persona to keep the last human sane. Merely acting as he was, the irony is that Rimmer fitted all the right categories to keep Lister alive. He only really cares about himself. That’s why he’s the character we love to hate. In the novels I feel that there is a distinct difference with the relationship between the two in comparison to the TV series. Rimmer’s empathy towards Lister is never shown to the same degree as in the Better Than Life novel. The fact that TV Rimmer and novel Rimmer are parallel equivalents spells this out. TV Rimmer is more anally retentive, bitter towards Lister than novel Rimmer is. April 22, 2009 at 11:26 pm in reply to: Ashes to Ashes series 2 #97841 TonguetiedParticipant Are they figments of imagination though, I thought it was all established that both time travelers came into a true version of the past with real characters? April 22, 2009 at 11:05 pm in reply to: G & T on Smegazines? #97840 TonguetiedParticipant Wow Carl, how did Future Echoes hold up on the small screen compared to the strip? Were you surprised with the gray sets and lines on Norm’s face? April 22, 2009 at 10:01 pm in reply to: G & T on Smegazines? #97834 TonguetiedParticipant I love the art styles of the comic strips, they are so varied and captivating. Great colour and nice touches to the design of the interior of Red Dwarf. I liked how in the adaption of The End they completely reworked all the gray sets with the sleak look of the cream coloured Series III to V production style. Also the nice touches in costume design, utilizing and paying homage to Lister’s Hawaiian shirts with his leather jackets and deerstalker. The comic strip version of George McIntyre was very scary though indeed. I just loved how the artists created an alternate version of the early shows. Of course many of the strips were original stories, but it’s nice to look at episode adaptations to compare them with the actual shows themselves and the novels. April 22, 2009 at 9:49 pm in reply to: Ashes to Ashes series 2 #97833 TonguetiedParticipant I watched the first episode of series 2 and noticed that the opening titles lack the dazzle, polish and style of the era, that Life on Mars managed to capture with the 70s. Still I like Gene Hunt and even though the series doesn’t have the wow factor of its parent; with the replacement time traveler Alex Drake having woken up in the 80s, it’s just a rehash of Sam Tyler’s character. It would have made more sense for Gene Hunt and his motley crew to carry on in their own time without any ‘companions’ from the future. It diminishes the concept from Life on Mars. It’s still a very watchable show – well made, good script nailing the seriousness of the crimes with blatant humour and great characterizations. I was never a big fan of Jade but I feel loss at the utter tragic misfortune of being taken so young. March 22, 2009 at 3:20 pm in reply to: Smegazine Scans? #94390 TonguetiedParticipant Hi there I found this site a few years ago. It only has the first comic story as a scan. They never updated it to scan more stories. http://www.geocities.com/area51/lair/2548/smegazine/theend.html Since I first discovered the site I managed to get volumes 1 and 2 of the Smegazines on ebay. Watch out for them as they appear occasionally in sets on ebay and usually go from around 20 to 30 pounds. March 22, 2009 at 11:11 am in reply to: Watchmen film #94379 TonguetiedParticipant Breathtaking film; excellent story, actors, sets and visuals. No restrictions. The whole look of the film breathed realism. The pacing was perfect and the plot of course intriguing, there was never a dull moment. Not a generic superhero movie like Spiderman and Batman. A defining move in cinema. The most important comic book ever to be adapted to the silver screen. February 18, 2009 at 3:36 pm in reply to: Hello, I’m new here #92049 TonguetiedParticipant Welcome Jake! This site in my opinion is the best Red Dwarf fan collaboration on the net. February 17, 2009 at 4:42 pm in reply to: Craig in The Mirror #91889 TonguetiedParticipant I’m sure The Mirror’s columnists have had a few in their time. It’s not exactly breaking news and isn’t surprising given Craig’s publicity in recent years. He got legless nightly shooting Red Dwarf for probably most if not all the series. He still turns up and hits his marks, remembers his and everyone else’s lines. So what, he got caught drunk, falling over. What celebrity doesn’t in this day and age. We are in the age of repression I suppose. Shame The Mirror can’t follow all those Eastender stars who ‘shame’ themselves. They seem to be devoted to Craig. Quite scary indeed. February 17, 2009 at 4:39 pm in reply to: Craig in The Mirror #91891 TonguetiedParticipant That was quite good that little joke there! September 8, 2008 at 1:24 pm in reply to: The Dibbley Family in Back in the Red part 2 – just bug me #84127 TonguetiedParticipant >?Emohawk?. Actually, is there a band called Emohawk? there should be? Yeah it would be a quirky name for a band. Better than ‘The Smeg and the Heads’ anyway. September 8, 2008 at 1:20 pm in reply to: Corgi Registered Friends #84126 TonguetiedParticipant I got the Starbug playset manufactured by Product Enterprise. I would be tempted to by the Corgi models but since they don’t have the original Red Dwarf(as per series 1 to 5, and it’s brief appearances in 7) I don’t really fancy the Remastered ship. Would have been nice if they made the original ship as well as the Remastered so everyone can be happy. But it’s not a huge deal, it’s not even a moderately sized deal, it’s just a quibble on my part, call me a purist…or a moaner. September 3, 2008 at 2:37 pm in reply to: Perfect Dark for the Virtual Console? #83948 TonguetiedParticipant Well considering Nintendo in my opinion was the best place to be, always has been. They tick all the boxes, that other platforms don’t. You can like graphics, and go with MicroSoft or you can like quality games that deliver great story, great characters, and a long lasting appeal. Plus Rare was in it’s heyday when it was with Nintendo, look at Goldeneye, look at Perfect Dark, look at Banjo Kazooie. And of course Conker’s Bad Fur Day. Perfect Dark Zero was a lame sheep dog waiting for those double barrels. So you can say ”but yeah it wasn’t that bad at all for the company, but for the fans of Rare games it was quite a wrong turn indeed” But that’s just my view of course make of it what you will. September 3, 2008 at 2:22 pm in reply to: Official Annoucement of Red Dwarf Special to come mid-September #83947 TonguetiedParticipant True, we have had more in DVD extras, that other franchises, like Black Adder, and Fawlty Towers should have delivered. Red Dwarf has given it in spades, we’ve had more than a belly full . The sheer depth and effort into the production of the DVDS is astounding. It’s been a pleasure to be a Red Dwarf fan since 1998 passed, not that it hasn’t always been. September 3, 2008 at 2:12 pm in reply to: Official Annoucement of Red Dwarf Special to come mid-September #83944 TonguetiedParticipant >I?m just happy we?re getting new Dwarf to be honest, but what?s nice to know is that even though Red Dwarf stopped in ?98 we really have been steadily getting new things to watch and gawp at with the DVD?s, not to mention things like Bodysnatcher and Identity Within. As Red Dwarf fan?s we really have been given ?new? material pretty much constantly since VIII ended. We don?t really have THAT much to complain about? Apart from the lack of genuinely sublime gags…bar BodySnatcher of course. Author Posts Viewing 50 posts - 1 through 50 (of 183 total) 1 2 3 4
