once I realised what the table was its really the only episode it could be I think, as I don’t think you really see the crew sat around the mid section table that much, if at all, other than in Timewave.

Yep, all about that table 😎

Thanks for the comparison, I get it now!

Agreed that the first square was a total enigma, with the second an immediate giveaway.

I play on mobile, and haven’t noticed an issue like that.

And to be honest, I haven’t sussed this apparently obvious aspect-ratio gimme that people keep mentioning…

Went for ‘Terrorform’ on guess two, as I thought it’s a gravestone and the word is probably Rimmer, even though the colours seemed wrong.

First guess was M-Corp, as there was a stark white background. When that failed, I thought it might be something from outside in Better Than Life. Then it was clear it was the Holly watch, and well, rather obvious..

I was convinced I had it on guesses 2 and 3 (Psirens and Thanks For the Memory respectively) because I was sure it was showing me some kind of outdoor, quarry-like terrain at night.

Ditto… I always thought it was meant to be “Only one man” and the line had come out wrong and no-one had noticed until it was too late. So it’s good that there is a sensible answer!

And other words that end in ‘ible’.

Until embarrassingly recently, I’d always heard Lister say in ‘Kryten’ :
“… he gets out a brush and mattock, and starts doing me lapels!”

I assumed these were 2 small, separate cleaning implements specifically for lapels.

I’ve only this minute Googled ‘mattock’, and discovered it’s an actual tool. Though probably not one you’d want near your lapels.

Admittedly this is just a mis-hearing, rather than a misunderstanding of the meaning of the line.

A meteor hits the ship in Queeg so it’s a not a rare occurrence it seems.

If Red Dwarf is hit by a meteor once in its life, one would hardly say that ship is ‘constantly’ hit by meteors. No, it would be a rare, nay freak occurrence.

You sort of have to assume Kryten absorbs all the data from the computers on derelicts they come across, so he has something of an encyclopaedic history of the human race up to the point of its extinction.

Everything except knowing anything at all about women.

Makes sense. Over the years, he’s had more RAM than a field of sheep.

My favourite bit is when Danny mentions ham.

The scene in Future Echoes, where Lister is figuring out how the Cat will break his tooth, while Rimmer does some funeral march business in the background. Can’t watch that now without hearing Danny describing it as “a leg of lamb swinging back and forth in the shot”. Or something to that effect.

Probably been asked already, but if Legion is determined to keep them from leaving, why does he do nothing to stop Kryten knocking everyone out, when presumably he would have arrived at the same conclusion, possessing their combined knowledge/intellects?

For a while, when Cat refers to Rimmer and Kryten as Stan & Ollie, I thought he was talking about a couple of Skutters that had nipped out.

Good points. I forget the logic of the theory of parallel realities as Dimension Jump sets it out. I’m too busy thinking about Bongo covered in taramasalata.

My unpopular opinion is that we should excommunicate every Red Dwarf fan who spells skutter with a C.

Perhaps with a keyring as a parting gift?

Why do the Skutters have a dustpan and brush in Balance of Power when they can’t get their heads anywhere near the floor to use them? Are they exclusively cleaning stuff that’s a foot up in the air?

It’s a flimsy attempt at looking like they’re working, maybe the logistical implausibility of a dustpan and brush give an extra layer of meaning to Rimmer’s “you must really think I’m stupid!”

Ah, I forgot about Geldof. Maybe that explains why Lister says he’s a Pisces in Last Human, even though he was born in October.

“she’s obviously an Aries, and me a Pisces…”

” I’m surprised, though, that some people have said it’s more ’18’ certificate than the others. I wasn’t even aware the Agonoids and the torture stuff were like that at the time I was writing it”

It’s been a few years since I last read it, but I distinctly remember there being a line about an implement used for “scraping out the inside of the penis tube”

No double-Polaroids being developed after that…

For a long time I heard “Every time I see a Parthenon, I get horny”.

It was quite a while later until I became aware of a ‘Parker Knoll’ and even later before I put the pieces together.

    What? when is this

    Blue:

KRYTEN: And what about the ironing? I mean, how do you iron a bra??

LISTER: Well, you’ve gotta take it off first. I spent years practicing that. Used to put my nan’s bra around the armchair until I could unhook it with my left hand. Even now, whenever I see a Parker Knoll I get horny.

Watched some of VII on Sky today for various reasons and the entire ‘Kryten’s paranoid dream’ in Duct Soup was cut. Was there something offensive in it? Apart from it being in Duct Soup, obv.

Maybe “Thank you, with a capital R” was considered offensive to dyslexics?

Not so much misheard as misunderstood, and apologies if this has already been mentioned in the preceding 400 posts:

Until very, very recently, I heard it as ‘Rasta Billy Skank’, as in the name of an artist/person.

It’s only within the last few months that it clicked it was ‘rastabilly’ like ‘rockabilly’. I think cos I saw it written somewhere.

Over 20 years of misunderstanding ????????‍♂️

Plastic in general is useful to them, that’s just two more to their numbers. (Although aren’t those mad of wax? lol)
Maybe their intel on Earth is just a little out of date and they think they’re still alive

There’s a scene where it’s explained that the plastics factory have been hired to make plastic ‘waxworks’, using some kind of new process/technique.

Couple of classics from a scene in an episode stuffed with them:

Rimmer : You? You’d sacrifice your life for the good of the crew?

The Cat : No, I’d sacrifice *your* life for the good of the crew!

Rimmer: Yes, but the thing is, about Captain Oates; the thing you have to
remember about Captain Oates; Captain Oates … Captain Oates was a
prat. If that’d been me, I’d’ve stayed in the tent, whacked Scott over
the head with a frozen husky, and then eaten him.
