“are they wearing flayed, dead GELF skins in Beyond a Joke? What else could those be?”

In over 20 years I’ve never considered this…. makes sense I suppose.

They could’ve thrown in a line “let’s use that costume-synth gizmo we picked up back on the SS…”

Remastered was my first experience of the back 3 episodes of Series 3, so I didn’t fully appreciate how bad that CGI chase sequence in Bodyswap was, until I saw the original version when the DVD came out…

But isn’t that an enormous drain?

    > also how bizarre it was that the Tardis crew had to piece together Rosa’s story like detectives when they could have just used the Tardis to find out the details

Well, there was a line of dialogue that went something like

“Why aren’t we going back to the TARDIS?”

“Because that bloke has eyes on it, and we’ll run into him again if we keep going in and out”.

Which seemed kind of invalidated after she then went deliberately looking for him a bit later.

Off the top of my head, both Rimmer:

“It’s my duty. My duty as a complete and utter bastard” – Timeslides

“The world loves a bastard” – Back in the Red

    >Off the main topic, but what’s your browser, and in what way doesn’t the site work?

It may be down to the computers or network settings themselves (whisper it, I’m at work), but I have the option of Internet Explorer – ‘page cannot be displayed’, or Chrome – just stays as a blank screen.

I have no issues using Safari on my phone, or Firefox at home. I also have no issues with other sites, apart from social media sites, which I imagine are deliberately blocked.

Obvious ones like not getting references when I was younger, especially in the earlier series “the poor goit you made look like Helen Shapiro!.”

I think it was a while before I understood the implication of “Maybe Ace-hole” too…

I wouldn’t want to change Bobby as Kryten for all the fun-sized Crunchie bars in the world, but this exchange makes me feel that we’d have been in safe hands if David Ross had continued in the role:

(Copied from IMDb as I couldn’t be arsed typing it all out)

    Kryten: Is anything the matter?

Rimmer: Anything the matter? They’re dead.

    Kryten: Who is dead?

    Rimmer: *They*

[indicating the “surviving” officers of Kryten’s ship]

Rimmer: are dead. They’re all dead.

Kryten: My God! I was only away two minutes!

Rimmer: They’ve been dead for centuries!

    Kryten: No.

    Rimmer: Yes!

    Kryten: You a doctor?

Can’t remember which episode, but this commentary intro, specifically Chris:

Chris: Hello, I’m Chris Barrett, the star of Red Pilot.
    Craig: I’m Craig David.
    Danny: I’m Daniella Westbrook.
Bobby: And I’m Roberta Lou-Ellen. I was in Dallas. ”

Yeah, re: the commentaries. There’s something giddily pleasurable about hearing their genuine laughter, especially Robert.

Another one from Quarantine, I love it when Kryten struggles with the psi-scan, and the inane stuff he says about it while he’s waiting for it to work. “passes 8 out of 10 bench tests…” (might not be verbatim).

The ‘LOL’ moment for me is the punchline, they way he pauses “and we are going to…. live”. Masterful timing and delivery.

Interesting that ‘Back to Reality’ gets 3 1/2 stars, whereas ‘Parallel Universe’ (which I don’t have a problem with, but have seen maligned on here quite often) gets the full 4.

    >When Cat meets Kochanski in VII, he never really shows any attraction to her or tries to seduce her. So maybe not

I don’t know about that. He calls her ‘Officer Bud-Babe’, and I always interpreted that as him finding her attractive, rather than babe just meaning ‘woman’.

He also seems quite keen on watching her knickers spin-dry.

Plus “No, I said they were down, then I asked if you like wrestling in….”

I guess it makes sense. With a human brain, he’d presumably lose the sheer capacity/processing power of his mechanoid CPU, and would get confused.

Ok, I obviously haven’t quite figured out the quote HTML thing. I was trying to quote Dax101 about him looking bigger in VII and VIII.

Pretty sure Robert says something about this in one of the commentaries, that he looks bigger due to weight-gain.

    >back on the topic of Jokes You Didn’t Get, i was watching Confidence and Paranoia the other day and this particular exchange stuck out to me-

    LISTER: I feel really ill…
    RIMMER: You ARE really ill.
LISTER: No, I mean really ill…

    what is Rimmer on about?

I always took this to be Rimmer offhandedly having a jab at Lister’s generally unhealthy lifestyle. A foreshadowing of the comments he makes in Bodyswap, say.

Given their general lack of concern with continuity, plus the amount Chloe moans on about her hair in the VII commentary, I doubt anyone was fussed about her hair looking different.
